| Description: | Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by giants. Giants are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of giants. Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as one of the city walls is damaged by a 60 meter (196.85 feet) giant causing a breach in the wall. As the smaller giants flood the city, the two kids watch in horror the tragic events that follow. Eren vows that he will wipe out every single giant and take revenge for all of mankind. because a porn movie is made by Disney Corp, doesn't mean it should be rated PG ...
since this is a very violent manga, how can a shounen magazine consider it appropriate for readers 8-14 ?
Not even zombie flicks get that much gore and desesperation
The first manga it brought to mind was the utterly epic Nausicaë, largely due to the setting and the tone of the story. Also due to the first volume cover - it very much resembles a God. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the Giants spring from the same source as the Forest.
I thought the second manga it brought to mind was Gantz, mostly due to the gore and the monsters, but also due to the strange detachment I feel towards all the horror and tragedy. It's like it tries to be touching, but overshoots the goal by so far that it's just unreal. But after thinking about it, I realized it's more like Claymore, especially if you take into account the art style.
