I don't think the new generation will be able to understand the magic that we felt with Doraemon.
I think the reason why there was no more new stories is that the mangaka passed away (IIRC he was >60 yrs old). There were some new short stories made by other mangaka that imitated Fujio's style but they were not as good as the originals.
