This a good manga for the "action" scenes and ridiculous luck and circumstances (and fanservice, I suppose), but if you came here for "real" mahjong then turn away. The manga is written more as a shounen MC-never-loses-(when it counts) style rather than employing the psychological pressure and tactics mahjong can really bring out.

I'm not saying this is a bad manga, it's ok for entertainment (and fanservice...) but if you want to read real high-pressure mahjong, then turn to Akagi. Better yet, if you like gambling in general, try out the Kaiji series and really anything by Fukumoto.

Warning: there is no fanservice in Fukumoto's work. If anything, it's anti-fanservice. Be prepared for hardcore gambles with lives at stake, Murphy's Law in action at all times, and lots of angular art. LOTS of angular art. There's a reason those series are labeled seinen.

@Gurken-Salat - No it's because its a closed kan, not an open kan. She isn't adding a selfdrawn tile to a declared pon to make a open kan, she's calling a kan directly (a closed kan). You can only steal a tile from an open kan, for chankan, except in the case of 13 orphans, where you can steal a tile from even a closed kan if it completes your hand.

I don't get it:

You guys realize that Saki only show her ability just once in one chapter and at last page, and Suehara from Himematsu high think she's a monster already??

The anime of Saki made me hooked on mahjong. Now that i read 96 I wonder why it did if the only thing I can see are boobs that would break your spine due to the weight.
