Okay where is this story headed? I thought it was about an old dude becoming a bad-ass. I hate how eccentric(not saying being eccentric is bad)it is. It makes it really confusing to follow.

Gantz was your typical loser-who-becomes-badass story but this one seems a lot more interesting. Surreal tragedy with sci-fi and unusual setting? I'm sold.
It's just that the friend protection thing seems a bit artificial coming from him. As if it was some kind of leftover habit or wish that he was programmed with or something.
But he also forgot that he got his powers from aliens not god.. how ungrateful of him..
