This is everything that Hyouka tried to do and failed.
Thank you @Aivanne. for getting me into this after mentioning it in Kengai Princess's comments section. I usually brush off shoujo manga as shallow and meaningless but sometimes I read gems like this and just regret ever thinking that way. I have this immense urge right now to shout at everyone I know to read this.
THis is one of those mangas you should buy in real life OuO! (I JUST WISH THEY SOLD THEM IN MY COUNTRY)
Nothing new to say here. Everybody already pointed out all the good qualities of this gem. If anything, I could say I can totally relate to her social awkwardness at times.
From her own words:
"It's interesting!"
really a nice reading, got my time enjoying every chapter
This is great gem ! By the way, I reckon, Naedoko's dad is like a reporter or something? That kinds of explains the moving and the newspaper article at the end....
i was so sad when tokyopop stopped one volume short, thank you translation heroes.
I can't point out enough how much I love this manga! Its just awesome! My very thanks to the scanlators and contributors! :-)
Kano-chan's story is damn amazing. This story is worthwhile and lovely. Just lovely.
Re-read this again for the umpteenth time. It's really in a class of it's own. I love how the characters met for only one chapter are real characters and not just throw-aways. Every time I read it, I laugh out loud, making people around me think I'm a little strange. Kanoko is definitely one of my absolute favorite characters.
Now I have a metric sh!t-ton of yard work to do tomorrow to catch up.
The manga tells the story of Naedoko Kanoko as she continually moves from school to school and observes the stories that unfold around her, always ending up somewhat involved in them.
The characters are excellent and you can't help but identify yourself in some of Kanokos' words of advice to them. Most of the characters are reserved to one chapter only but you still manage to connect and see an outstanding growth in the few pages they appear,
There are some hints of romance, but it isn't the strong point of this manga, you can go read Koi Dano Ai Dano (sequel) if you want that.
The art is not very good at the beginning but you see a great development that becomes even better on the sequel.
I just can't help but say that Kanoko is one of the best (if not the best) shoujo main characters. With her blunt, harsh honesty, she owns every single person around her. And her almost maniac schemings make this the best manga I've ever read.
