Description: | Vance just wanted to make the most out of his college experience under an authoritarian regime, and if that meant hacking into the university to assign himself a hot female roommate, then so be it. The last thing he expected was to be dragged into a crazy conspiracy to overthrow the government by his most-definitely-not-female roommate. College was meant to be exciting, but not this exciting. Between failed dates, failed grades, and successful hacks, Vance will slowly begin to question the morality of his actions and the true price of freedom. Was following this on her Deviant Art page but thanks for making this easier for me![:D](https://vatoto.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.png)
She posted her work on her DA account before it went to Tapastic!
I suspect it's an alternate universe America, not China. (Could be Europe, but since the author resides in California and Vance's home looks like a typical American suburban neighborhood makes me lean toward America. Then again, the rustic city scenes make me think Europe. For all I know, it's actually a mix of both.) Also, the father mentions growing up in China, implying that they're probably not in China.
For the record, China has had democracy-like protests before. See Tiananmen Square (primarily students seeking an easing of the restrictions on speech and protesting government corruption), or just google image the famous associated image, "tank man." (Sorry for the tongue-in-cheek link, I just love that site.)
And while I'm no Chinese history expert, (Mainland) China used to be a republic (a real one, lol), before the current communist government took over after the Chinese Civil War. The democratic China now resides in modern day Taiwan (where they were forced to retreat to after the war).
An interesting thing is that the US (not mentioned in the Wiki page, but that's how I remember/learned it; I could be wrong) refused to acknowledge the People's Republic of China (the current communist government) as China in the UN Security Council and had seated Taiwan as China for several years after the Chinese Civil War.
About Yuumei: She was born in China, but now lives in the USA. College student. Awesome artist, check out her dA and her stories 1000 Words and Knite.
Fisheye Placebo was indeed on Tapastic first, because the file sizes were too large for dA. dA changed that for her, so since then she's uploaded the chapters onto both sites.
But seriously, people, check out her dA. You really won't regret it.
new chapter is already out yesterday

the new character is really awesome
Well, there is also webtoons that aren't korean, like this(I heard that the author of fisheye placebo isn't korean, but american). Also, in Deviantart there is a new chapter that doesn't appear in Taptastic for now.![:D](https://vatoto.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.png)
But who cares?
Actually, it appeared Tapastic first. Also, Taptastic was founded by a group of Koreans. The site hosts about dozen Korean webtoons that I've never seen on Batoto.
This is the best comic I've read this year!!
Thanks http://yuumei.deviantart.com/ !!
Woah.... interesting.... very interesting... and the art, absolutely top-notch. I loved the intro chapter especially.... amazing design sense, concept of color, just spectacular.

Author knows his/her shit. Very tuned in to net culture.
