The only text significantly larger than 10 lines (notice it says approximately larger. It does not have to be exactly ten lines, this was intentionally written like that so people would not go make silly modcalls because somebody has 11 lines) is in spoiler tags. It also says nothing about blank lines, but about "text". Blanks are no text. Also, line count changes with screen resolution, so there's that, too.

And it's not exactly like there's any other discussion that'd be suffocated by that, is it?

the thing is that they AREN'T doing that. they are simply bitching at her like she's the antichrist.

if they would use their head for a moment and give even the slighest bit of advice, their team's performance would increase even if just a little.

they just need to face that she's a bad player and there's nothing they can do about it, but a bad player is still a lot better than no player. this is called coping and remedying the situation.

First of all: no idea why you keep insisting that the bitching of her teammates is detrimental. I said that myself, no idea why you feel the need to reiterate that. We agree on that point.

No advice will help in this situation. She needs training, not some advice in the middle of the game. As if she didn't know herself that she shouldn't space out half the time, or just randomly kick the ball around screaming "someone, help!"... she does not need somebody to tell her that is wrong. She still does it, because she's just not ready to play an actual game. Trying to coach her in the midst of the game would do absolutely nothing but distract her co-players even more.

Also, I disagree that having somebody like Kama around is better than being a player down. It is actually easier to have a player less yet knowing you can rely on everybody in your team than having a full strength team if you go by numbers while having somebody in your ranks where you never know what kind of stupid crap they are going to pull the next second.

You've probably never played football or a comparable sport, I can only guess. Because seriously, you can't coach somebody in the middle of the match. You can bark short, situational commands sometimes, but you normally do not have the time to watch over other people and much less tell them what to do all the time. But you simply cannot teach somebody the entire game and also correct their wrong mental disposition while the game is on. You also cannot always come over and cover them because that means you lose your own mark. Of course you will talk tactics in half-time, but what do you do until then? The game can very well be hopelessly lost until then when somebody is as disastrous as Kama. Not only are you missing a reliable player when that happens, the opposition player that was meant to be bound by Kama is totally free to do whatever as well. Even if you manage to snap the player into it during half-time by some awesome voodoo, the game may very well be hopelessly lost by then, and don't forget that the rest of the team will probably be angry and sad as well, making it all the harder to turn the game.

 

All taken into account, you simply don't put somebody who is like Kama on the pitch. You can pull somebody through who is a bit lacking, although that is already hard enough given the small team size and fast pace, but you cannot cover for a total loss like in this case. That's why you don't send people to the front lines who are not ready, even if maybe they cannot see that they aren't ready yet. Not only will they have no fun in the end and maybe even quit the sport due to the experience, but the team will also have a really bad day and you might very well fuck up the entire team harmony for quite some time even after the game.

 

It would be really great if the magic of friendship, willpower and "trying your best" would work in reality. But fact it, is does not beat experience, mental strength, well-rehearsed teamplay and honed technique. A good team knows that and gives players new to the sport the time to aquire at least some of those qualities instead of handing them a bucket of chum and tossing them to the Great Whites. Or, to keep the metaphors closer to Japan, teach them to break fall reliably before sending them to practice throws.

I repeat, it is NOT the fault of the newb, who does not know better, if he/she is thrown into a situation they can't handle, but the fault of those who threw them despite the fact that they should know better.

unless the dead weight has no motivation to play, which isn't her case at all, instead of complaining what you should be doing is giving advice and helping out what the other players.

anybody who has played anything competitively in a team knows that if winning is all that matters, complaining isn't gonna help you achieve that.

You would be throwing up too if this was your first time playing any kind of team sport, and everyone was blaming you for the reason your team gave up a goal. I like Kume's attitude toward giving up that goal though. I mean everyone makes mistakes, and you need people to say things like don't worry about making that mistake. People are more likely to learn from that, and continue. Than throw in the towel and probably never want to play again.

Not really, no. If it goes extremely fast you don't try to catch it anyway, especially not without gloves, but you punch it away with the fists, which does not hurt much either. Maybe with one of the very old balls that get soggy and heavy when wet, but in any other case, nah.

And if already catching a ball hurts you, then please, get out of the goal! Because that one really shouldn't hurt you and if it does, you're too fragile to play goalie. Abrasions and bruises from jumping for saves, landing hard and sliding across the floor or even crashing into other players or maybe even the goalpost when trying to save the ball, that is what hurts.

What can also hurt quite a bit if it happens several times is saving a ball with one arm stretched out to the side. It strains the elbow and when you have to do it several times shortly after another it really starts hurting. During footsal or indoor football that can happen quite a lot.

I figured out what was bothering me in chapter 8. Why didn't the have a pair of goal gloves!? Catching or deflecting a ball with bare hands hurts!

Kama is the best. And as a bonus she's learning not to be...well, a gigantic dingus. She's just barely a dingus by this point. Still yutz-tier though.
