Frankly, I didn't even realize it was a speed scanlation. Some odd bits sounded unusual, but not with the translation, with the editing, and I simply assumed it was an original style, not a wrong style.

oh... i see... I noticed that this was updated and read the chapter without coming here first. No wonder why i was lost there are lots of chapters missing. Well... guess i'll go somewhere else. 

Finally decided to look for this because I've been hearing about it and read it straight through. It is quite exciting, could barely stop reading. Got lost with some things, like the walls and cities. So, it's not one big city inside the walls, they are spread out where there are even forests and snowy mountains? It's not some apocalyptic future but a world that is sort of in a medieval era? Their equipment made me think they are at least close to the modern era.

 

I was confused about the armored titan though. It seems like they have encountered it before but I didn't see it when I read it straight through. Which chapter was it introduced?

Heh, it's easy to miss but the Armored Titan was mentioned on page 29 and shows up on page 30. It's featured much more prominently in the anime episode though.

As for the timeline, it's a bit wierd. Before the Titans humanity seemed to be in a kind of Renassianceish era. They had decent cannons and gunpoweder, but no really advanced tech or electronics. In fact, their cannon tech was equal or maybe even better to what they have now. However guns and cannons were largely ineffective against Titans due to their insane regen. Humanity somehow created physically impossible walls (How they where made is a mystery that's still being revealed) and hides behined them. These 3 walls cover a rather HUGE area that encompasses farmland and wilderness. Tech progression seems to be slanted due to the influence of titans. Guns and cannons haven't developed too much, but they invented the 3DS gear and special swords to combat the Titans. It seems like these swords are weak due to the way they always break in the manga/anime, but these swords are actually made out of a special extra durable metal that has a secret manufacturing process. The fact that they break just shows how tough titan flesh really is.

Well, looking back, the "can't plug the hole" development was kind of waaay to obvious.

Why?

Let's see:

1) Eren can transform into a badass titan (what is insane enough already)

2) Now we found out he can pull a harbinger on titans

3) He is still (kind of) sane when in titan form and he has Mikasa and Armin to save his butt when shit hits the fan (or the other way around lol)

So if it were "that simple", all he had to do is make a run for his old town, tell the titans to gtfo and  plug up that hole.

But where would be the drama?

I mean that way, we would pretty much have a copy of "victory at Trost" (in case you forgot, that was where he used a huge rock to plug that hole) and that woudln't really bring any closure to the series (because then the situation would be pretty much "back to chapter 1 minus some polulation)

But I am sure they WILL have to get rid of armored and colossal titan (and the ape one too). Why? Well, even if Eren plugged that hole, that oversized asshole could just kick it open again and then, he'll most likely make a bigger hole (or tear down a part of the wall) so that fixing it won't be that easy

Just saying before you read chapter 53, be aware of the title of the scan group, Speed groups are not always bad and do a lot of good work, just be aware
