Description: | All Miki Koishikawa wanted was an ordinary family and that's exactly what she had until her parents decided to move in with another couple (as in switching spouses!) and turned Miki's world upside down. Now she lives in a house with four parents and her totally cute stepbrother, Yuu. It's bad enough being brought into her parents' strange soap opera, but Miki will star in a soap of her own as she deals with friends having affairs, trying to survive in school and ending up torn between her long-time crush, Ginta, and her new stepbrother! Sequel: >Marmalade Boy Little ( http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/marmalade-boy-little-r8799 ) |

No, I wanted to punch Yuu out flat to knock some sense into him.
what the hell...i read this in one sitting... It's good, but those parents...man i would have worked hard to move out if they were mine.
Also, was i the only one that, in the last few chapters, was screaming at him?
I've seen Marmalade Boy recommended everywhere as the ~primer~ to "shoujo" and I'd been pretty reluctant to read it... primarily because I thought that this was the predecessor to all those whiny, drawn-out-for-too-long over dramatic high-school shoujo.
Huh. I was pretty wrong. If anything, current high-school shoujo can actually take a leaf out of this... lots. Like how those cliché arcs aren't drawn out, and gets resolved quickly and un-messily. Like having enjoyable characters with more than one facet of characterisation (But towards the end, everything revolved around only one issue. And that's okay; sometimes we have to overlook those for sentimental value ). Sure it had the same old drama and angst, but I emphasise the length; that's the positive side of this series. And most of all, I really liked the fact that the MC and other characters reacted realistically in many situations.
Overall, this was quite a nice read, albeit a little too juvenile for me (man, I feel old). 6/10.
Recently reread Kare First Love (never actually finished it) but I found it quite surprisingly pleasant story despite, as you said, intense annoyance here and there. I think it's a much better than than the other story by that mangaka. I can't remember my first shoujo but marmalade boy, mars, and kare kano were among them.
Regarding Marmalade Boy. I've reread it mutliple times (usually for a light read) and generally, it's an interesting premise. It's like an extended family =)
nice story
Nice place to start. I think my first was Kare First Love, an intensely romantic but intensely annoying manga. I'm just lucky I still felt like reading more after.
This is a good one. I read it pretty early too, but a little while ago I reread it and it stood up really well.
First manga I ever read.
