I think it is less that our two MCs were too powerful, but more that our final big bad was too bullshit. I think Zasid would have been much better if he was just a chessmaster, instead of chessmaster/the-incredible-hulk.
Or something, whatever else, than the zasid arc.
I binged this recently and basically had just the last 2 chapters remaining.
It's not just your nostalgia speaking. It really was better in the beginning-to-middle parts.
I think most of us can agree the last couple of arcs where shaky comparably how it was in the beginning to middle parts of the manga. It have also been several years now so it could also my nostalgia clouding me. However, I have also to say it's was a enjoyable ride in the end. Heck I (or we) got the happy ending we wanted since chapter 1.
Still I wish the ending were expanded a bit. I mean Mamoru was like "I'll be back in 7 years, we'll bang okay?".
urgh... finally its over. Yes, a nice happy ending which is nice.. but please change last 40 chapters. Swap it with something.. i dunno what but still something. Sure they had to tie things up with Gene and other zashid fellas but it just felt so tedious and culminated when haruka did her little "nope.. you wont kill him" trick in chapter 202.
God why you couldnt just let him die in a badass way.. or maybe just have him barely survive as a victorious cripple and do the timeskip from that point onward..
Its been a long while since i didnt feel anything when story officially ended :/
I share the same thoughts, this manga started pretty good and had lots of potential but the story lost any focus, the side characters were not explored, and the "do not kill rule" became something ridiculous, its one thing to spare 1 criminal and arrest them its an entirely diffent story to fight a war with elite armys without killing anyone (read it asimpossible). The ending was weird to say the least, they shouldnt have ended up together (i know most fans will like it, but its just messed up to turn a "daughter" into a "wife like that), and sparing the Coronel was the most moronic thing i could ever see (not like he is inhuman and the samurai cannot hope to ever defeat him again if he decides to be a villain right?). Lackluster ending for a serie that started strong, sucks that most mangas are like that.
I remember loving this series in the beginning. Spent the last arc reading on auto-pilot. When a series ends and you don't care either way that's sad.
Wish the characters had more personality. Our two leads were too overpowered. In the end, I got bored. Plenty of style, not enough substance. There were some good parts so I don't regret reading it, but UDDUP had the potential to be amazing. Sucks it didn't live up to it.
one day maybe i will find a manga with a half decent end
Oh and why is her hair black after the time-skip? Dyed?
Also:
I can't shake the feeling of a rushed final...
But this page covered it up.
Well, all good things must come to an end, and also those who went full WTF around the end, too. All in all, it's been a fine read, so, THANK YOU KIREI CAKE!
Hey, mamoru looks pretty cool with slick hair. Well either way, very big thanks for kirei cake for translating this manga, although ending was a bit lacking (expected zasid to be killed in quite a cruel way ) but i enjoyed this manga greatly from the start to the end, something quite rare if i were to say.
That flashback at the end almost made me cry. To think it's been so long since this started. And also thinking about how much these two have been through together makes me feel weird tbh.
Shit taste
And this needs an extra chapter because I absolutely can not imagine Mamoru married to a human being. He's more swordsexual than Guts, Kenshin, and Zoro combined.
I need to pour me a drink!
Tragedy tag lied! LIED!
Dude lost to Probability...dude lost to math...MATH.
Children, whenever anyone says what can MATH do for you, you know now the math can beat perfection.
Z - How the fuck did you just beat me?!
M - Essence of calm, pure concentration and perfect void of the mind. EVERYTHING, FROM THE YEARS OF TRAINING, WILL ARRAY IN A TECHNIQUE PURE; YEARS DANCING WITH STEEL, WE'LL SEE WHAT HE HAS BEEN LIVING FOR
Z - I understand it all now... the reason for my failure is because I lack accumulated training. I, who perceived everything and grasped your think--
M - I'm just fucking with you, all I did was mash B.

I mean... Yeah.
If anything could beat a man you embodies the "I CAN READ ALL YOUR MOVEMENTS" trope, it's just swinging forever like an idiot until something goes right or wrong in a way nobody can predict.
It seems so obvious in hindsight.
Actually, boss man falling to such a completely basic idea is actually logical when you think about it. Sometimes you can overthink something, and when you do you fail the task, or take far longer than needed to complete it. Just because you forgot the basics.
Seriously..? After Zasid is shown as a super last-boss character, he falls to some repetitive fucking slashes?!
I mean, the kind you do at a Kendo dojo while training and slashing at nothing?
Lame, man.... lame!
