I prefer to think of this series and its prequel as the pleasant story of how an English Woman accidentally adopts a daughter.

It's still being continued. There's a couple new chapters a year. It depends on when she wants to take a break from Otoyomegatari.

Thanks a lot Blue Flor! I love Kaoru Mori's work. I have two views of the series: one serious and the other jocular. The serious one: as usual with Mori, the characters are very well treated; in this case the relationship between Shirley and Cranley is full of affection and sensibility and Shirley is a very very interesting character. I'd like to have more development of her like what happened with her parents and what's her story before he met Cranley, why she want's to be like Cranley so badly. All of that if I put aside Shirley's age. The jocular one: This series is about how a little girl of 13 years old is happily exploited. Well I know is historical and somehow represents the facts and minds of the people of England during C XIX. But even so... mine is the point of view of a contemporary reader. 

In the end my concern would be: will Shirley be able to be happy doing what she does? Maybe yes, but I feel the story has to be developed a bit more to make it more believable...
