Last Game

Well, I read the whole thing after a few years, and I came to some conclusions.  The plot was not new, and it used a whole bunch of manga (and other genre) tropes.  That said, I found it as fresh and charming as I did the first time I read it (waiting for updates, the bane of all manga reader's existence).  The character growth (of both of them, but mainly Yanagi) was believable and endearing.  I really appreciated the fact that his family was not a vaudeville caricature of the evil Japanese wealthy class.  They were real people that I could imagine meeting and dealing with.  Her mother was also not a stereotype, one or two dimensional character.  I really enjoyed it the second time around (I could read the whole thing) and gained a greater appreciation of both Amano Sensei's story telling ability and her artwork, which totally complemented each other.  In the beginning, Yanagi was portrayed (and actively trying to be) an entitled jerk par excellance.  He failed spectacularly (when her mother was taken to the hospital), and much of the rest of the manga was him trying to regain his jerkiness, with spectacular non-success.  His insecurity and emotionalism were rather touching, and her density and innocence were equally touching.  Basically, this manga took a hackneyed plot and a lot of shoujo tropes and made it into a charming and enjoyable read, with characters that can be identified with, with an ending that even makes jaded old spirits like mine happy.  

To be fair, maybe I'm just absolutely idiotic and can only read in the level of a drunk Chinese man after his first English lesson, but I can barely read anything in this "51.5".

And Fuuka is his worst one too. I do wish that Suzuka and Kimi No Iru Machi got proper animes that cover the whole thing though.

Oh dear Flying Spaghetti Monster, no. So many reasons come to mind, but the first is "How does he plan to write LEGEND-ary songs that live up to his ridiculous hype?"

And what about the poor seiyuu who have to try to live up to the praise he splattered all over their characters' voices (because you can do that when it's just drawings)?

Too many stories end when the relationship starts, more anime/manga need to keep going after the relationship starts dammit!

This really deserve a GOOD anime. I don't understand, they even made a Fuuka anime for the next season (expecting a disaster like Kimi no Iru Machi)

And Fuuka is his worst one too. I do wish that Suzuka and Kimi No Iru Machi got proper animes that cover the whole thing though.

Chapter 56.5!? I would totally read more of Last Game if it dealt with more of Yanagi and Kujou's relationship up until the wedding.

Also, Why the hell hasn't this become an anime!? This could easily fit into a 26 episode season and show the entire thing.

Itazura na Kiss wasn't top-shelf, but I absolutely loved that it did just this.

 

Yanagi will probably faint in their honeymoon lol. It was a nice end to a good manga. 

She's going to have to push him down... and/or get him drunk, then tell him they did it the next day to get him to loosen up.

When they get a kid (definitely a daughter), the kid will play him too lol

Yanagi acting like a teenage high school girl whenever he's around Kujou made me laugh. Now I want to see more of Yanagi being played hahahaha

 

I bet during their marriage Kujou dominates him hahahaha

okay... now I'm curious about their marriage life... Kujou is just way too playful and pure in same way

I'm late to the party, but I want to say that this is a great shoujo manga. Yanagi isn't the most likable protagonist, but him suffering for 10 years brings him down to earth. He's not so good a person that the reader hates Kujou for being too oblivious, yet he's not so bad a person that he's uncheerable. I liked Kujou because I like stoic girls. Under other circumstances, her obliviousness might have been too annoying to bear, and it occasionally got close to being so. Yanagi's suffering was just too funny. She's a sweet girl otherwise anyways. The side characters were cool too. I personally think the manga taking place in college really helps the story. The time skips between the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd chapters make the final time skip before the last chapter seem perfectly natural even though it seems like it would become a high school romance in the second chapter. I really love this manga.

2x reading this manga and im still love it, i hope that it will have a side story of after marriage hehe! GOOD JOB!!XOXO

I wanted MikotoxKei tbh. I was rooting for Yanagi in the beginning, but he just seemed to become more possessive and stalkerish as the series went on. Mikoto seemed more comfortable with Kei and he seemed more mature to me. Anyone else feel this way?

I'm some others feel the same, but this was a pure comedy after all.
