That was worth reading just to see Botan's smiling rampage in chapter 11. Ace.

It was not the guy she was having the affair with that hit her. It was another guy that she spent with that hit her, in a fit of rage, after she rejected him, after she had sex with him, as payment for a gift.

oh whoops. guess i got caught up in my own indignation then, my bad folks

and Kashiwa... don't even know where to start lol! In a financial situation like that and he still considers to change gender? If anything it feels like he is AS messed up as Botan having affairs with other people just that she justifies it while Botan doesn't really...

So, I'm like a year late with commenting on this, but I figured I'd throw my two cents in. To address the more simple part of dskilly's comment - as far as I can recall, Kashiwa was devoted to her girlfriend pretty much the entire time. The only time it was suggested she wasn't was when she was "testing" the dude Sakura likes. Hell if I remember his name.

The more complicated bit... Well, transgender people are pretty adamant about transitioning. It's the only thing that helps us not feel like complete shit. Many of us are thrown out onto the streets and disowned, and often when we are we're forced into either minimum wage jobs or prostitution. Understanding that Kashiwa hated just about everything about his body - and himself - and was seeking to transition... Well, the financial situation doesn't really matter when your choices are between mental self destruction resulting in suicide and doing everything you can to transition and get support from your family. Besides, the surgical costs alone of transitioning are absurdly high. Then you have to think about hormone treatments, electrolysis, voice therapy, and other potential surgeries. Unless you're completely loaded with cash, there's never really a good time to transition. Plus, given that it's Japan, none of that is likely to be insured - which means getting it all through less than legal channels or spending even more money to get what you need overseas.

If real life is any indication, then Kashiwa didn't make this decision lightly. And, when she came home, she started doing the housework and working (or, at the very least, it implied she was working somewhere). It's not like she came back to say, "Hey, I'm going to ride off my family's coattails." Rather, she just reduced her own expenditures.

But that's enough ranting from me.

this manga had very good materials for the story, yet It was such an unfortunate the plot went wrong. Really wrong. It was almost like the romance part is "shitpost" of the story.

It was derailed so faraway from the beginning of story - as if the synopsis like.. was trying to fool me.

The ending was rushed as hell.

Spoiler

Kashiwa is not lesbian, Kashiwa is Transgender.  They are not the same.  Simply put Kashiwa has always identified herself as female. That does not mean she hates men or hates herself, just that she doesn't see herself as male.

Those two things are not mutually exclusive. You can be transgendered and a lesbian.

I realize you were responding to someone who clearly didn't understand the (seemingly obvious) difference between being gay and being transgendered, but I just wanted to make sure this was clear. You can be gay and transgendered. If you have someone who is biologically male, like Kashiwa for example, and she identifies as female, but is also sexually attracted to other females? Then she is a lesbian.

I don't blame Botan for what she did. The girl never got to go grow up like a normal girl. She went from a teenager looking forward to college to being a mother of 3 and the sole bread winner. That's going to mess you up and she found something outside of her situation to hold onto and make her feel good. There's nothing wrong with that.

Kashiwa could have gone about announcing his wanting to transition a better way. But it can be a scary thing to do I'm sure. I mean, families disown kids for just being gay. Imagine if you wanted to completely change your outward appearance.

I think the story did some things really well but somethings were a miss. Dealing with the social anxieties that the 2 oldest girls dealt with was done well, dealing with the sister leaving and how the other 3 went about it after wasn't but that was mainly do to things not being flushed out.

And he didn't hit her on purpose. To me at least. It looked like as he was yelling his confession (stupidly) in the hotel when she went to stop him he over zealously shook her off and caught her with an elbow or hand. To call him abusive is a bit much, forceful though would apply.

All in all, I like the manga. It had complicated situations that were handled fairly well and a story that while not deep was interesting.

Kashiwa is not lesbian, Kashiwa is Transgender.  They are not the same.  Simply put Kashiwa has always identified herself as female. That does not mean she hates men or hates herself, just that she doesn't see herself as male.

Actually, Kashiwa does state outright that she hates men, herself included (especially herself because her body works against how she thinks she should feel), a few times in the story. The little outburst she had about their father at the end of the story did seem to convey an explanation to some of those feelings regarding males.

I don't get Botan's attitude... As if her having an affair was all OK, and the only issue was that it was brought to light.. also from my point of view Kashiwa was traumatized by the abandonment by his father, the only male role model, and became to hate men (himself including), but instead of dealing with it, all were supposed to accept his decision to chop of his ding-dong and go lesbian... I really don't get this

As for Botan, while her abandoning the family was not the nicest thing to do I can sort of understand why she did it.  She was 19? when she was forced to abandon going to university and instead join the workforce to look after her siblings, and has major self worth issues.  In her numerous affairs she has been making the only selfish choices she could while being selfless for her family. When this was exposed it culminated in her making the truly selfish choice in running away.

Bitches, whores and indecisive inept adults.

His sisters want his D, but he just suddenly turn into woman. Did he just cockblock himself ?

I just read all the comment bellow me, it seems like this series is just awful, and I read it till ch.4...seriously for fuck sake HIT THAT GUY, he kiss her, say she like her sister/brother, leave her, know that the sister is  a he, goes back and kiss her again, for fuck sake HIT HIM.

Yep the two chapters were definitely not enough for the closure I was hoping to see. I'm glad that everything seems to be stabilizing for them though

I like to think Botan went on a journey of self discovery or something, after all those years spent caring for her family she definitely needed some sort of break otherwise things could've been much worse, it's a good thing the affair was exposed earlier who knows what other mess she could've gotten into if she stayed there any longer.

Spoiler

Can't help but feel the ending was badly rushed because the manga got axed. The ending was okay, I'll just go ahead and guess that that's Botan-chan on the other end of the line.

It was not the guy she was having the affair with that hit her. It was another guy that she spent with that hit her, in a fit of rage, after she rejected him, after she had sex with him, as payment for a gift.

I dont think the family knew it was another guy. They just knew that she'd been hit by someone and that's the person they saw her with. I agree with the point about the hitting part, though. They should have brought it up when Botan confronted them. At that point, they have to worry if what she's doing is putting her in danger like that. The affair becomes secondary.

The family did really fuck up with the way they approached him and Momiji just made it worse when she yelled out about it in front of his family. If anything, the best thing to do would have been to talk to Botan from the beginning.

Still, I can't approve of Botan abondoning them like that, I can empathize with her on some level, but she still abondoned them like nothing.

I still think Botan was a drama queen at the end, but otherwise the ending was acceptable.

What the fuck!
Its end like that?

Its bad ending for sure
Why uozumi bastard get happy
Now I need manga like Hibi Chouchou and Hajiotsu to forget this shiy manga

This story nailed it well.

Spoiler

It's over. ;_;

What the hell, who even cares about the cheating? HE HIT HER. She makes a lot of good points - it's really not her family's business if she's dating a married man. It doesn't effect them at all and it's a very personal thing for her. It's her business, his business, and ultimately his family's business. If the cheating was the only thing they'd have no right to interfere. But HE HIT HER. The cheating is irrelevant at that point. Who cares about that shit when this is clearly an abusive relationship? And god, her family barely seems to care that he was hitting her, they don't even mention it to her like it's some tiny detail beneath their notice? Fuck all these people. Botan is probably the least morally twisted person in the family, at least she has an excuse for ignoring the abuse.

This is good writing, but it seems to hint at some kind of cultural taboo or trivialization of domestic violence, and that's pretty messed up. Okay yeah, I just googled it and I'm not sure domestic violence is even a crime in Japan, so yeah. Much as I love Japan for other things... That's pretty foul.

(and yeah I'm kinda behind sorry for that haha)

This is definitely the best manga Satou and Kizuki have made. It's so good.

my first manga to unfollow, strange cause of the weird or bizzarre mangas that I read before (that I stick to the end)..but I just lost interested in this one I guess

in the end people will read what they enjoy

good luck in your quest Kashiwa

Wow this is some intense plot there... metaphorically and literally... But yeah, the characters feel so alive with so much details in their character...

And damn, I see many comments disliking Botan but personally I think she was right to a certain level and it really switched me on when Momiji shouted out to the man's family that he was having an affair!! Sakura couldn't do anything to stop her so can't blame her much... and Kashiwa... don't even know where to start lol! In a financial situation like that and he still considers to change gender? Damn, can't wait for the updates

I dislike Botan on a moral level. She makes a number of good points in relation to everyone's individual selfishness, but her sentiment is really just as long as it didn't look like anyone was in immediate harm, anything was fair game. She was doing just as much harm to that "innocent daughter" by messing with his family, only Momiji's stupid outburst made it happen a lot quicker.

I've been in her position. When my parents died, I suddenly had to put my dreams and aspirations on hold and make sure my kid sister was able to grow up with what she needed so she could have a bright future. It was a tough point in my life, weighing my dreams against my sisters, and I had my own coping mechanisms to deal with the depression, but hers involves literally messing up families. You could already tell the guy was probing Botan as if he were ready to drop his current family and start a new one with her. Did she really not see the issue there? Just because she didn't agree with going to that length, it was okay?
