Erm, is this series over? It says 4 volumes but i can't tell how many chapters that means...

um... isn't this finished, why does it say that it's ongoing?

What are you talking about? This would be a weird way to stop a story since this reads exactly like the start of a tale.

And man, he died too early. I just started to like the damn asshole.

Status in Country of Origin
4 Volumes (Ongoing)

And the resume of this manga is:
Spoiler

Anyone else wondering where Ai's mother was buried? I mean, they mention that she died, but nothing of what happened to her afterwords, which is kind of odd considering the nature of death in this series.

Ai buried his mother on a cliff near the house if I remember correctly.

Read the last part of what I wrote and remember, "popular" does not mean "profitable".  Also stopping mid-season due to production issues? I'm not talking about technical problems or budget problems. I'm talking about money problems. Have you seen an anime axed mid-season because the directives said "No, this isn't profitable"? I haven't. Also the one you cited, Hanaukyo Maid Tai got remade, so it's not that much of an example for this context.

Actually Hanaukyo Maid Tai did have money problems. For the time, the show was produced at a high quality and subsequently had profitability issues. Cue production problems and rather than throw good money after bad, the plug was pulled. (On a side note, the English publisher for Hanaukyo Maid Tai went bankrupt after publishing just 3 volumes and the license was never picked up again, closing off yet another revenue stream)

Except if that was true, the inverse should be true too: If an anime is really popular/successful/profitable, they should produce a second (or third) season and yet few shows actually get that second season.

And yes, I have seen animes get stopped mid-season. Hanaukyo Maid Tai (the anime, not the manga) was axed mid-season due to production issues.

And here's a clincher, some super popular series that have manga with over 200 chapters get a meager 1 cour season and with a tiny budget to boot.

But at the end of it, how many series, especially ones adapted from LNs, have actually given you the very same experience as the original source? Very few right? And that's kind of the point. They are only supposed to adapt, not replicate. They want you to buy the products so each has its own unique aspect. With LNs, you appreciate genuine story telling and character depth while with manga, you appreciate the art and dialogue, and finally with anime, you appreciate the Voice acting, the animation, the vibrancy, the music and sfx etc. And with Visual Novels, you get all this in one package depending on how it is done. We might say we despise certain adaptations, but honestly, we did enjoy at least one aspect of it, be it the art or the music etc. That's just how we are. So the industry will keep doing what it always does, cause they know the flow and get money anyway. I certainly want to buy the DVDs of Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi even though I have my problems with the adapting and I doubt that is something unique to me.

You guys gotta understand that when certain producers and directors that meddle with the stories consider it too much of a risk to make a long season, they only give us the 12-13 episode season. It's not like in a manga where if it's getting low popularity you just axe it and get it over with. An anime is not so easy to stop mid-season (seriously, have you seen it happen even once? I haven't) so the most they can risk is the 13 episodes. Now if the series is good enough you normally can expect another season.

Ikr? They pull that shit every season. Black Bullet is one recent series that got its pacing ruined due to only being one cour. Btw a "cour" is the official term for 12-13 episodes.

Their treatment of Black Bullet has really made me sad... I mean if you aren't aware of the other media (LN/manga) it's still pretty good, but the stuff they cut out or changed really makes me sad. Even important stuff like the introduction of Rentaro's special equipment and status was super rushed and not epic feeling at all. Where as in the manga, at least the scene felt pretty amazing.

Wish more adaptations with lots of content would get more than 12-13 episodes... Seriously, reserve the half-seasons for smaller stories already...

Can't blame them entirely. They wanted to cover a few arcs and that's a lot of content. Currently Black Bullet is facing the same dilemma. They completely botched up the first arc just so they can get the second arc(and possibly third) done with before the last/eleventh episode.

My reaction when I watch the anime, even though I did see it coming from a huge spoiler meme

Funny how one changes opinions about dying after several years, decades and/or centuries pass.

Oh another update so soon...?! O.O
Thanks StubbornOne~ <3

Poor Julie, I really feel for the guy... D:

Yay, view of what happened to his Wife, makes it more and more understandable! ^-^

Spoiler

And all this was skipped by the anime.

Damn.... Really knows how to affect one's mental state, this series.... GREAT WRITING!

so... chapters 23 is the same as chapter 1?

It's a recap from a different perspective.

Also, my own comment, everything would've turned out fine if they didn't bother trying to kill the man-eating toy...
