Description: Fumi Koito used to be raised by an old housekeeper named Hatoko Natsuyaki. He would call her "Peppermint Nanny" because she would eat his leftover peppermint candy drops—because he hates how they taste—then breathe into his nose because he likes the smell.

Now Fumi is in his mid-20's and living on his own as a cram school teacher. One day a little girl no more than nine years old shows up at his house. It turns out she is his old nanny who misses cooking and tending to his every need. But because she is pushing eighty and has grown too frail, she drank a mysterious bottle of medicine to regain her youth—and accidentally drank too much.

Thus begins their new life together, with the reader frequently left guessing who is taking care of whom.

Technically is his maid, as she has been his family's maid for years, they are not related.

Oh.

Well now I'm disappointed

No, but seriously, is this manga really trying to sell me a love story of a guy who falls for his grandmother in a loli body? Can we please address how hardcore that is?

Technically is his maid, as she has been his family's maid for years, they are not related. But yes, she has nursed him, it is hardcore.

The word you're looking for is innovation.

Baba Yetu intensifies.

From Wikipedia:

Sudachi (Citrus sudachi; Japanese: スダチ or 酢橘) is a small, round, green, Peruvian and Japanese citrus fruit that is a specialty of Piura in Peru and Tokushima Prefecture in Japan.
It is a sour citrus, not eaten as fruit, but used as food flavoring in place of lemon or lime.

This is lovely.  It really pulls off the old lady in the young skin, and their relationship is very sweet.  I'd say it does the old lady in a young body as well as Mill, which is about the only manga I've seen do it really well before.

For those who fear it, I hate to say it but I see the beginnings of subtext happening.  The talk of marriage (not to each other, but it just underlines that he has no prospects and wouldn't be able to explain her anyway and then leaves the concept sort of sitting there), "You're red as a beet" . . . there are a couple of possibilities gently hovering, not ready to settle into concreteness yet.  Perhaps they never will, but . . .

If something does happen I think it will be handled with delicacy and heart, so it's fine.

The weirdest of boners

Love-boners

I'm okay with and old man x high school girl romance if it's like Koi wa ameagari no you ni where the girl falls for a "stranger". As for Usagi drop

Spoiler

That's more or less my position on Usagi Drop.  What bugged me wasn't so much what the ending was, it was more that it felt very much tacked on and forced (and if you're going to go for something like that, you really need to build it deep into the story).  But on the flip side, Nocturne has a step-father/step-daughter relationship which through the entire thing has revolved around a haunting, mostly-subtle romantic tension between the two since she was fairly young.  In Usagi Drop, going there was forced and tacked on; in Nocturne, it will seem forced and tacked on if the ending doesn't go there in some way.

Every chapter it feels like something bad is going to happen maybe it's the art and their interaction. Pretty sure something bad will happen (or something already did that is why he is not in a fancy house)

This is fictional, so....why the hate?
This series is precious tho.

You have a good point, but remember a lot of commenters are from the US. People here often think it's their business to monitor/punish others' actions - or even thoughts - that don't harm anyone.

US law on fictional depictions is that if a prosecutor and/or jury could think images-taken-out-of-context show underage sex, you can go to prison for decades. The storyline doesn't matter. Your intent and feelings don't matter. If you surf the 'Net and find an image of two naked adults caressing each other, and (like most manga) it shows no pubic hair, the lack of pubic hair can be used to "prove" you were thinking pedophile thoughts and you're the one who gets f$&#ed in reality.

@Aereus I'm still not reading (it's on the list) and nothing participating in the discussion, but I want to say something. This "trick" to put an older conscience inside a little girl body is not a new one, it's a well known "trick" at this point to avoid accusations of being pedophile. It's usually used as a loophole for intentions surely not innocent. I'll be not surprised if "something" happens.

I know nothing about this series beyond the description, but I have to say it gets really tiring seeing people bring meta arguments into the comments which have nothing to do with the actual series involved. Doubly so when it involves spoiling another series others may not have have read simply because of your personal feelings on it. Especially when apparently pre-villifying a series for slippery slope discussions that may not even happen. How about you save your outrage for when something happens, instead of armchair thought policing?

The way I see it: The important point is that those involved be adults and informed on what they're getting themselves into. In this specific case that would be more related to mental age as well. I'm not advocating that in this situation he should go Option D (not that I think that is likely anyways), but even in the case that they did have a rapport with each other, as long as she waited for her body to be fully sexually mature, I can't see any outrage in that outcome. Its still two consenting adults assuming her thinking faculties weren't also degraded by the change. Its a fantastical setting, why kill catgirls with meta arguments?

I want a closet space room too...

You most certainly are not the only one. If you look at ratings and comments at sites like MangaUpdates and MAL, then you'll see that there are just as many, if not more, people who are fine with it.
It's just that the people who dislike it are excessively vocal about it, so it can give a false impression. It's not even anything new, die-hard fans and haters are always more visible and vocal, while majority remains content and silent.

by that logic everyone is fine with pedophilia cause 9gag actually faps to 12 years old.

Welp, wouldn't be a comment section of a manga with "parent"/"daughter" theme without people rambling about Usagi Drop

tbh if you kept reading UD after it pulled that "10 years later" stunt, you only have yourself to blame

[emphases added]

As one of the people who is passionately infuriated by that series' ending, and brings it up whenever the title is brought up IRL, I would say that the reaction I get from that 'content and silent' majority you speak of has been more along the lines of, "We don't speak about that ending. It did not happen."

It's not a scientific sample, but I've always been under the impression that there are a lot of people who still love the series despite the ending, but people who liked the ending are... more rare.

Twin lessons I keep re-learning: If I want others to know how I feel, I have to tell them. If I want to learn how others feel, I have to listen. And rarely, if ever, do the two cross paths.

(My feelings about it are ambiguous, and I doubt I fall squarely into either camp. I have no idea how the majority feel, because almost every time I've seen the subject come up someone loudly denounces it - and that chills, if not freezes, quiet discussion as well as future discussion. The internet has become such an uncontrolled angry place that few will speak up if they think it may get them attacked.)

Spoiler

Anyway, the very real possibility of such an ending is the sort of thing that makes me very hesitant to read something like this. If I allow myself to take things at face value, and accept the characters as they are presented, then I'll probably find the whole matter quite touching and endearing... and then I'm going to be very upset later on if I find out that this was all just a vehicle for the author's personal erotic fantasies. As someone who gets very attached to characters, that can be quite upsetting.

Spoiler

I see this line said whenever a manga like this shows up. Am I the only one who didn't really mind the way Usagi Drop went?
