Amazing how timeless this is; only thing that feels old is the paneling at times. Mizuki Shigeru's got a killer sense for light and shadow too.

Mizuki Shigeru, the author of this work, died yesterday. I feel it's a shame I haven't had a chance to look at his work until now.
I've seen this series referenced in the Pani-Poni dash anime and Omoni Naitemasu so I thought it might be worth a read
The English language collection from Drawn and Quarterly seems to be Vols. 4 and 5.
Actually , not a bad comic.
