Description: | It is the story of two boys, Machizo and Tetsuo, who create manga together. Machizo's father is a successful mangaka (manga artist). Machizo feels he's living under his father's shadow, and resents his father's success. Tetsuo, who is at school with Machizo, enjoys drawing manga and is good at it. His favorite mangaka happens to be Machizo's father. The two boys strike up an alliance to draw a successful manga to win a contest, with Machizo writing the story and Tetsuo drawing the graphics. An important part is also played by a violent girl named Kimiko, who has a crush on Tetsuo. |

Sorry to disapoint you, but this was published way before Bakuman, and there has been many mangas about, well, mangas. The fact that all these authors take a different approach to telling the story of creating mangas is what makes the subject interesting.
I actually enjoyed it. Seemed down to earth, a bit dark, but happy all the same. The characters developped very well and seemed to live on their own. A "coming of age" kind of manga.
It has many interesting turns of events, never letting you a chapter without a new plot development, the characters are well developed, allowing you to sympathise with their problems and identify with their personalities, and it's length is very fitting, with no noticibles rushes on the plot, if any. In the end, it is a very nice work and worth a reading to anyone who wants to feel a bit more of the manga industry scenario without disregard the human side of it.
Not your tip of the mill plot and characters, that's for sure. Very enjoyable read for me.
