Yes, the three sisters pretty much have the same face, you distinguish them by hair. Yes, in the beginning their eyes look like on the cover. But this certainly is a very good story, slice-of-life at some of its best. Something the others haven't mentioned here yet is the fascinating way in which the actual time the story is set into is completely irrelevant, which probably does a fair bit of justice to Kyôto in real life. There's this feeling of "the things are the way they always have been", which in our time certainly isn't always a compliment yet suits Fukuyadô Honpo perfectly. Bits of history and Japanese culture do get introduced in a few walls of text but they fit in, because you want to know by that point, because those pieces of information help you understand why some things happen.
This is not a quick read but I recommend, Fukuya's is a sweet shop without too much or too little sugar coating. (A compliment. xD)
This is, by far, the best family-themed manga I've ever read! I thought I'd back out because of the art style but the story just kept pulling me back in. Each character has a story of their own and I never felt bored reading each one. The epilogue was quite nice, too. We see the birth of a new generation in the Fukuya household. I'd love to read another series that is as well-constructed and heartwarming as Fukuyadou Honpo!
Kudos to the scanlators! You did a great job!
ヽ(*・ω・)ノplz don´t be afraid of the art, its not the best but the story is good and its just a good read.
And although I think that the last chapter could've been perfect if some 3 or 4 pages were left out, ultimately, there's no other way to describe this manga but beautiful.
Of course, the little additional pictures of wagashi added in by the scanlators are also very (mouthwateringly) pleasant and thoughtful add ons.
I understand though, that 90s manga art style do not sit well with those introduced to manga from the 00s onwards. Well, I'll just say this: Don't judge a book by its cover.
You won't regret it, I promise.
