I binge read this entire manga in one night. In a lot of ways, it's a typical shoujo, but what I thought it did really well was convey what it's like to be 16 - what it's REALLY like, instead of being the typical 'righteous herione' or 'evil heroine' leitmotifs with Hatomi. I'm in my early thirties now but this brought back vivid memories of high school drama - like, the real drama of developing into your own person, stumbling through relationships, being indecisive and confused about your own feelings, and while judging people in black and white terms, behaving in an often very gray moral way.
I found it refreshing because having the benefit of experience and hindsight, it's easy to fall into the habit of judging shoujo characters - heroines and heroes in particular - for their flaws. It's also easy to attribute it to bad writing or unbelievable character development, which it often is. But these characters were flawed and, yeah, arguably, unlikable, but - MAN, so were me and my friends when we were sixteen, even if we meant well. We dated one another and broke up and wove tangled webs and hurt people and hurt ourselves.
So will this manga frustrate you? Yeah, probably. I too wanted a different ending and empathized with some characters more than others. But is it a relatively good depiction of being an actual high schooler? Yeah. If you can forgive it some of its mistakes, like falling into occasional quagmires of cliche, it's a good look back at that murky period of growth that most of us go through - especially if you have the luxury of distance and can look at it through the lens of nostalgia.
I think it's the only ending possible for this manga. They were destinated from the beginning and it was obvious that Hatori loved Rita all the time, even when she dated Hiromitsu.
Also I think the best characters of the manga are in effect NOT the main, but the secondary characters: Nakajima and Hiromitsu and I think that this is exactly the intention of the mangaka to give them such good personalities instead of the Heroes.
I liked very much, it was very funny, strange and quite original than other shoujo manga I read.
You know we can find Hiromitsu in the last work of Momoka Koda, Sensei Kunshu...maybe this time he can have a new love, a real love. I hope so for him 'cause I like him a lot!
Sorry for my bad english
Seriously, shoujo does this way too much demonizing girls and women who own their sexuality and have multiple partners. It's not anyone else's problem, and it doesn't make her worse or better than anyone else, and not having sex (or being monogamous) doesn't make someone better either.
Man, how I liked this series until the end. The mangaka gave the main so much character growth and she was leaving a toxic and frankly terrible guy behind for one who treated her well. I honestly hoped the mangaka was going to actually go against the shoujo rule of getting together with your first love interest no matter how terribly he treats her, and she didn't and her excuse for it was so infuriating.
...
this series is awful. o.o
I have no idea why I read this. But now I am very angry.
I'd include Nakajima on that list. She rocks.
EDIT: He already has! Just fixed the name of author to be reachable: http://vatoto.com/comic/_/comics/sensei-kunshu-r9663
Hatori is starting to annoy me the more I read.
I actually really like this manga and I'm glad it ended the way it did
The idiot copule ...they are veryyy cure ^^
[Hiromitsu is awesome, too good for her, so in my mind he's with an awesome girl ]
I did, too, but I know why: I have a compulsive desire to finish everything I start (and really get into). I got hooked in the beginning and just had to know how it ended.
Hiromitsu should have his own manga. He's the only one in this who isn't a terrible person.
I kinda.... like the ending
I want to rant at this manga too, for god sake, Hiromitsu was such a good boyfriend and I think he should have ended up with Hatori (even though she's a selfish and cheating girl), and Rita should never have dumped Adachi and made she like that. Toward the end, the plot was all over the place, and I did like this manga at first too
GUAHHH why did did the extra chapter end without any smut or graphical portions that are sexual in nature, its like they are cockblocking my eyes!!!
I read the whole thing. I don't know why but I read the whole thing...
Certainly, this isn't the greatest manga. Although the plot is a bit of a mess, and you can't help but hate the characters at times, there are a lot of funny faces on the main character. And the fact that quite a few people kept reading (based on all these comments) means it isn't so terrible that no one wants to read it.
lel this couple...........
to people considering whether or not to pick this up:
certain plot turns in this manga are highly irritating, but go ahead and read it. It has its funny moments, esp the mangaka's face drawings and comments (herpaderp). The ending manages to be infuriating only because we've all formed some attachment to the characters, which goes to show for the quality of writing. (Everyone is an idiot doe.)
This is really good. There's the funny faces, the drama, the likeable (or hateable, your pick) characters. It's absurd and sometimes so down to earth it's endearing. Do not be fooled by the slapstick comedy, no matter how funny it may be. Beware, for there be some feels here.
This just needed a few surprise pregnancies and a turbulent abortion and it'd be a shining example of high school retardation
I'm glad Adachi got her shit together (hopefully) there at the end. Women who stay in abusive relationships piss me off. And she became a real looker. Where did THAT come from?
Hiromitsu was a good dude. Too good for our stupid heroine. Hopefully he can find someone, maybe Adachi?
Nakajima was probably my favorite character though. She's the wise sage that everyone loves but never gets the attention she deserves.
Heroine and RIta: Fuck em. Don't care. Die in a fire.
