How much did the american company change the story and quotes from the original story do you think? 

Its Tokyopop, theyre kind of famous for not doing translations, and instead doing rewrites

I can assure you that volumes 1-22 have been released in the U.S.A. I check them out from my local library all the time (over the past five years I have checked the whole series out at once over 20 times, which is a lot considering you can keep the books for 3 weeks with up to 2 renewals of the same length) problem is that they were published by TokyoPop (which for those who  don't know went out of buisness and left many works unfinished, plus some of their licenses have still not expired. Meaning that other publishers can't pick up the series)

 

There are many other series which suffered the same fate including King of Hell, and Ratman (You'll want to go to Mangahere for most of TokyoPops' stuff). The first chapter's scanlator's credits page sums this up beautifully.

 

One last thing is that most of the posted scanlations (on Mangahere) of both Chronicles of the Cursed Sword and King of Hell are dirrectly scaned from the American TokyoPop volumes (I know this because I read Chronicles of the Cursed Sword, volumes 1-22, from my library so many times that I remember the exact words used in certain parts of the books, so when I read the chapters on Mangahere, I instantly recognized specific translations of certain dialogues.)

I've got every volume up to 18 (using the pocket money I had as a kid would just go to buying this and Rave Master when they dropped). I forgot about this until now, I wonder how it ends.

Don't be a dick. If you want to read it from the beginning, go to a bookstore and buy a volume or go to the library and borrow one. If you don't want to go through the trouble, then don't read this series. For fuck's sake, don't be a drama queen when you can't get what you want.

I'm glad someone picked up this series. I really missed this one. I guess its time to reread the whole series to get back to the story. Thank you Friendship Scans and I hope you guys would continue to release this awesome manhwa.

He was not talking about this manhwa if you read closely. He's talking about "A LOT of manga" hence Japanese comics.

Well, they have to deal with people actually buying their printed stock. If that's not happening, they don't have a reason to continue releasing it.

I can say with certainty that a number of volumes are licensed in english.
As a matter of fact, according to Mangaupdates, 22 volumes are published in english before being dropped.
Hence the scans here are started at v. 23.
