Description: Souichi is an art student, and one day he saw an amazing painting at his university that made him want to study under the artist. When he went to learn from the master, though, the man did not accept him. Shortly afterward, he met the man's granddaughter, a blonde-haired, blue-eyed child called Rune. She was a very energetic kid who drew Souichi into playing with her in the surrounding countryside. Soon, Souichi learned the truth--the painting he had been so impressed with at his university was not the grandfather's work, but Rune's. She is the artist from whom he needs to learn! [tethysdust]

At the end of 2017 Still waiting for update

So am I

At the end of 2017 Still waiting for update

Now available on BookWalker; vol. 1 is (as of 2/8) available for free. If this appeals to you, Terrence Swiff has a concise guide to buying manga there:

This should never have gotten axed. I like the relatioship between Rune and Souichi.

What chapter is it ending on?

I think that fans of this mangaka didn't really care for this slice of life that gives vibes of pedophilia; Definitely underwhelming.

BTW: It's up to 15th on scanlator's site.

It ended http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-10-13/ai-yori-aoshi-fumizuki-ends-boku-to-rune-to-aoarashi-manga/.107623

I just hope it had a proper ending and not an "axed" one...

Thanks for the chapter, guys!!

Oh god damn it, only two volumes? Ai Yori Arashi was so damn long...

well often time children known as "halfs" or half japanese, have names that can work in either japanese or in their native language (...)

In my country, nikkei people usually have one Portuguese and one Japanese given name; something like "Ricardo Kazuo Sugimoto" or "Aline Mayumi Takahashi".

Also, I know that former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori does have Japanese citizenship, because back in the 1990s, the Peruvian Left wanted to have him arrested and he spent some time living in Japan because he was apparently a Japanese national, as well, and couldn't be extradited. So if people cannot have dual citizenship with Japan today, it has not always been the case.

(you cant be a japanese citizen and a citizen of another country at the same time)

Wait, so dual citizenship isn't a thing in Japan? Is it where the very act of applying for another country's citizenship legally revokes your Japanese citizenship or do they have some leeway in that regard?

It certainly could, but given that it is written thus in the French-language message her mother left her, I'm inclined to believe that is the proper etymology, and not a similar-sounding Japanese name.

well often time children known as "halfs" or half japanese, have names that can work in either japanese or in their native language, the reason is because there are actually laws that regulate the names of japanese people, so if you want to be a japanese citizen in theory (from how i understand it) you would need to fit into those laws, like there is a list of kanji that are "suitable" for names, and you cant you cant use other kanji for a childs name if they are full japanese. for this reason it makes sense that a parent of a "half" might name the child something that if when they became of age they wished to be a japanese citizen (you cant be a japanese citizen and a citizen of another country at the same time) they could keep the same name and just enter the proper kanji. (note my explanation is HIGHLY abridged lol its way more complicated than that)

This writer is my second favorite after adachi and I never really knew why until I realized that all of his characters are confident and they're only undecided when it matters

Read the first couple of pages… only in manga, where being a loli is normal and/or prevalent enough that you have to be warned against it. *sigh*

*continues reading*

She's like 10, please don't make this romantic

There will always be a bit of Romance. It's just a matter of it being on whose side. Rune is most likely going to get love like feelings towards Souichi. Someone who cares for her, won't abandon her and treats her gently (but not to the point of insulting her intelligence). She's 10 now yes.. but as she grows up those feelings will at least have some "romantic-esque" type origins. His perspective is more "I can't leave this poor girl alone" not really romantic but also not purely "pity" either he respects her ability to paint extremely highly.

Precisely, my good sir, but "Rune" could be a viable name in Japanese as well. Source: one of my students has the same name. Different inspiration, it would appear.

What's going on with the scan quality bruh? It's like reading an enlarged thumbnail.

Anyways, the loli in umi no misaki got all but fucked, so I wonder when he'll get to second base with Rune...

What? The teacher and MC shared all of 0 even remotely romantic/sexual moments together.

So her name is actually Renée?  I guess it makes sense, given a katakana rendering of ルネ.

So her mother wanted to spend time on her own, knowing she was dying?

Her mom didnt die. She's probably still alive somewhere. It's most likely one of those trope where mom is too young to give up her youth to spend time raising a child. The message in ch 9 implied that her mom abandoned her and left Gramps to raise her.

gramps lied to her, i guess "your mom wants to be by herself and thinks that you are in the way so she left you with me" is way worse than " she died"

Spoiler

Is it just me, or does this manga have a manic pixie dream girl kind of feel to it?
