Description: After being dumped, followed closely by her grandmother's sudden death, the chubby Yuri is left broke and homeless. That is until she discovers that her grandmother had been lying to her for years. Her mother is not dead, but is in fact a famous movie star, and very much alive.

Upon arriving at her mother's house, she meets her three new beautiful siblings, all from different fathers. Her new-found family is filled with hilarious oddities, ranging from laziness to drunkenness to gay incest. She is constantly antagonized by her brothers Sumire and Aoi. And her sister Fuyou does little to help. And thus Yuri becomes little more than a maid in the household, catering to her siblings needs while her mother travels the world. But as Yuri's warmth fills the house which before had been so cold...what will happen between her and her brothers? Can they come to see each other as siblings before it's too late?

The series received the Shogakukan Manga Award for Shōjo in 1994.

Hurrah!

Been a while, but here's chapter 58.  Six more big chapters like that, and this series will be done.  The next chapter will be a very important one for Yuri and Sumire.

That (chapter 57) was a challenging one to translate, with a lot of new information and plot progression.  As such, I had to call on my secret weapon: Green Moriyama, a native Japanese and a very smart guy, fluent in both English and Japanese.

Two volumes (eight chapters) left to go.

Do you have please a blog or website because I want to download all the chapters.

I do not keep such a thing, and even if I did you would still have the problem of finding the chapters before #51, which were done by several different scanlators, some of whom didn't want their work posted on Batoto.

Reminds me of a stereotype I ran into in the mountains of Peru: amor serrano (mountain love).  The definition comes down to "the more you love me, the more you hit me."  That last is typically spoken with an exaggerated country accent.

I have observed this same thing in another series you won't find here (or anywhere) yet, but for which I have most of the first chapter scanlated.  It may be a city stereotype of country people, but the son sees his father getting into an no-holds-barred brawl with his mother in law, and then the two of them reminisce about how much better in a fight his deceased wife (her daughter) was.  Amazed, the son thinks, "Is this Showa?"

Yuri's got some guts.  Years of standing up to the rest of the family has toughened her up, huh.

A new chapter, chock full of drama and surprises!  Seriously though, it needs to be.  There are only nine chapters left in this story.

To be fair, every member of Yuri's new family was messed up, albeit in differing ways, when Yuri first met them in chapter one.  They have all progressed somewhat since then, and there is hope their individual issues will be resolved by the end of the story.

Sumire is no longer a mean drunk,

Actually, Sumire was never a mean drunk.  He was mean while sober, and only nice when drunk.  It's like drinking detached him from his bitterness.

Now Yuri is soothing away his bitterness.

Don't intend to give up.  And FWIW, those ten chapters add up to nearly 500 pages.  There's still some story to cover here.  So how does one eat an elephant?  One bite (chapter) at a time...

And yes, I have cheated and looked at the last few pages of the last chapter.  It's for me to know, and you not to find out ahead of time . . . unless you go buy yourself a copy of the book.

:D Yeah, I know that these kind of responsibilities are hard sometimes, but it can't be helped. ^^ We're, the readers, really patient. We'll wait. ^^

I would like to buy it, too but unfortunately the shipping to Turkey is so~~ expensive. :'(

Don't mind. :D The series is almost over. ^^ Just 10 chapters. Don't give up. (>.<) Ganbatte ne~~ ^^

Thank you for the chapter, dear rpapo. *-* <3

So what's her problem?  Really?  (Referring to the mother, of course.)

I feel like I've been waiting for this moment since some o' you kids were in diapers.  I haven't, it just feels that way.

This series was completed in Japanese before some of the readers here were even born.  Ditto the next series from this mangaka that I am tempted to do, Umi Yori mo Fukaku (Deeper Than the Sea).

Whooooooo yeah!  I feel like I've been waiting for this moment since some o' you kids were in diapers.  I haven't, it just feels that way.

My heart!  Hahahaha!!!  Giddy!

only on chapter 30 but so far, aoi is just a really gross person imo. o.e wut.

Sumire is no longer a mean drunk, Aoi does not appear to have a homosexual crush on his older half-brother, and Huyou/Fuyou doesn't spend all day doing nothing at home in her bathrobe any more.  Hey, maybe Shouko will calm down and Yuri will lose weight and feel better about herself?  Who knows?

New volume, new chapter.  This one wasn't too hard, though there are some awkward parts.  This chapter may get further review and correction later, but part of the reason I do these scanlations by myself (as opposed to being part of a group) is that I don't like having to wait for other people to get some spare time.  Young people seem to have such busy lives nowadays, though to be fair I recall being very busy in college too.  Ancient history, that.

The printed tankobons I have are so aged (they're twenty years old, after all) that there is a considerable reddish/orange cast towards the edges of the pages.  I tried a new technique this time to try and minimize the effect.  It's roughly equivalent to taking a picture of the original page on black and white film through a red filter.

What a typical page looked like:

Apart from that, there were some difficult sections in the original Japanese.  If you're confused, I probably was too...

Here's the cover from the first volume, redone my way.  FWIW, I should be able to do a chapter of this every six weeks or so.  I have to be fair to the other series I am working on.

rpapo you doing God's work. Been waiting years on ch 50's cliffhanger.

I am such a very happy man right now.  Thanks so much, rpapo, I am in your debt.
