Why is sometimes I feel like the mangaka draws the man a bit feminine even though they're muscular mmm...~?
And it seems like the mangaka is actually a female, that's awesome for such a sport manga mmm...

According to baka-updates, the mangaka is female!

Considering the visuals of the boys and their bodies, I'd wager that her background had some bara to it, not necessarily that she drew it, just that she consumed that in some fashion.

And I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with that, mind you, I like the raw power she puts when two guys clash against each other.

Googled Rugby Manga, a tumblr rugby fujoshi fanpage came up...mental scarring will fade slowly.

Finally got around to read this one. I love the art, is really unique, and has this way of inking that reminds me of certain doujinka: Super detailed, with lines that vary a lot in thickness and a level of fluidity that complements the style of the mangaka. Simply gorgeous. I'm guessing is not common to see in serialized manga due to the time It may take to put that amount of detail on a tight schedule, but is nice regardless.

Kazuo Kato's art style is sketchy, yes (she tends to "repeat" strokes) but the proportions she uses for her characters are completly different and  so is the body language of the characters, which is way less accentuated than in here. Shiori uses a lot of "S" shapes for her characters posing, and gives a lot more of dynamism.

I'm a nerd with these things, bleh.

Anyways, I'm super glad this was picked up in Batoto, thank you so much for your hard work!

 

Yeah...no they dodged an offside there, this ain't legal,

you can't just kick a ball to one of your own team, unless the catcher comes from an on side position i.e. behind you, they're offside, this would have incurred either a penalty at the position where the offside player touched the ball or a scrum down at the point of the kick to the opposing team at their discretion.

edit: On closer inspection it might have been legal, but the information isn't visible within these panels, based on the trajectory and the would be catcher's surprise I suspect It's still offside.

 

edit 2016/07/06: most of the rugby playing world outside of the US (so 98%) calls them rugby boots not "cleats" also to that effect we use studs. Sort of interesting linguistic detail as it appears the american name is a result of synecdoche (naming the whole after one of its parts)

And I have no clue where you got Fujobait from because as a Fujoshi I'm not seeing it

... The artwork is suggestive, you are desensitised by your exposure patterns so it might appear tame.
It's a rugby series so I'm going to read it anyway, I have no real choice in this matter beyond the obvious.

Anyway, Megchan if you're watching this might be useful to you.
Rather than specific sides rugby positions are more about relative position to the flow of the ball, also stand off is more commonly known as fly-half though there is a certain degree of regional variation, however "blocks" should be "props" (the loosehead prop(1), hooker(2), and tighthead prop(3) are known as the front row)
Those guys should really be hammering passing drills rather than tackling, guess ball skills are less exciting.
\o/ A female manager/player, she looks dangerous, the women's game is not to be taken lightly.

Ok this is pretty terrible Fujoshi bait. 15 - Meisetsu Kougyou Koukou Rugby Bu wasn't as bad art wise and had some decent rugby... the plot seems thin, the motivations weak and the characters art seems to have walked straight out of some yaoi girls dark imagination, perhaps I'll come back to this but frankly short of a major upgrade on the sports front it ain't happening.

Not a huge fan of the art, but the sport is great and rarely used as theme. I only have two hopes: no borderline shounen-ai and no fantasy bullshit special moves with stupid names every five pages, pretty please. Those two things have ruined way too many sports mangas for me. Followed for the beginning, let's see where this is going.

It's a Rugby manga which are damned rare so it's an insta-follow, but I seriously hope this doesn't end up as another fujoshi bait borderline shounen-ai like 15 - Meisetsu Industrial High School Rugby Football Club even though that did have some really good points to it.
I'd love for someone to one day pick up 8-gatsu no Hikari, Hard Tackle, Hello!!, Horizon or Upset 15.

 

I ought to mention No Side too, since I listed pretty much everything else, it's a little.......different.............

wow a sport manga where none of the protagonists seems to be some kind of galactic champion ! Might actually be interesting XD
