I'm a happily married gamer with two adorable little kids.  By gamer I prefer turn-based strategy and role-playing games where you actually level and see character improvement.  I prefer open-ended games with story and plot (ie series like Final Fantasy, Fallout, or The Elder Scrolls) to games without but I still enjoy games like Civilization or Masters of Orion where I can build an empire through research, production, and planning.  Not as big a fan of real time strategy (Warcraft, Starcraft, etc) as I'm no good at thinking on my toes with multiple elements and a big map to focus on.  I'm just not a tactician at heart.  I don't really like First Person Shooters (Doom, Halo, etc.) for the same reason (that and there is usually even less plot the more real-time you seem to get).  Finally, sports games are just useless to me as there is no story line to follow.
