Luca Remas
What happens in the basement, stays in the basement. Okay Lori?

[11:35 A.M.] Cul-de-sac.

Despite the giant monster wolves hanging around like stink on a month old pair of sock, Luca was quite enjoying his time in the basement. It was his sacred zone. Just as his grandma didn't want anyone upstairs, he didn't want anyone downstairs. He thought about his grandma and her views on Madeline and Joe going upstairs. Luca shuddered. He'd only seen his grandma angry once before, when he flew a toy helicopter upstairs with a camera attached. He though he was being smart. He wasn't upstairs, so technically no rules were broken. Well, that was what he thought. Though he also thought he wouldn't get caught. When the camera had returned he was greeted with a photo of his grandmas angry face. And then he heard her slow, booming footsteps coming down the stairs. Chills of fear roll down his spine just from the memory.

Luca looked at the photos on his basement walls. They were absolutely cracking. His prized collection. They were banging against his brain with greatness. He could practically hear it. No. Wait. He could hear it. Luca turned around. The walls peeled away. Nearby a fat unicorn revealed itself to be a rhino in disguise. Even in the beautiful rose filled fields he could still hear the banging. Like a muffled bass drum thumping away. But then, just when he had come to accept that it was here to stay, the banging stopped. And a dreadful silence descended over the world.

Darkness began to roll over the meadows like fog. Soon it covered everything. It blackened the sunlight and all but blinded Luca. The darkness seemed to weigh down on him like he was carrying the weight of the sky. He became lost, crawling aimlessly amongst fields of rapidly wilting flowers. Occasionally he would hear a noise. It was distant at first but it was closing in. He recognized the noise to be footsteps as they drew nearer. But he couldn't figure out which direction they were coming from. They seemed to echo amongst the shroud of darkness. He tried to get away. He crawled as fast as he could. But he was getting tired. And the footsteps were still getting closer. His limbs refused to work anymore. He felt like he tied up. And still the footsteps drew closer. And closer. And they stopped. He tried to keep quiet. Not even a breath. He feared his heartbeat was pounding loud enough to give him away. He couldn't see anything. And then there was another step. Right in front of him. He peered upwards into the darkness ahead of him. All he could see was blackness. But he knew something was there. Looking at him. Thinking. Planning. Savoring the moment. Deciding what to do about him. The thing that came in the darkness. A dark blur seemed to lean down. It's mouth opened wide. It had no teeth. It was more like a black hole. A tongue extended and slowly licked Luca across his forehead. The being seemed to smile. Luca woke up.

He kept his eyes closed. If he was lucky the whole day will have been a dream. There would be no wolves. No guns. Nothing weirder than usual. He would wake up in his kitchen and prepare for school. He wished with all his might. He opened his eyes just in time to see Lori backing into the shadows. He felt that a comment was in order. Something witty. Something surprisingly profound. Something fitting. He went with a classic.

"Uuaarghh!"

@Spinne: Seems like it. But don't feel like you have to pick there. Everywhere feels like it has just the right amount of people. Which proves that Lilith is good. So I'm sure Lilith could work you in anywhere without much... Trouble. [If you hear a far off noise, ignore it. It's me. The only person doing a little laugh here.]

Basically, just pick whatever seems the most fun for you and go nuts.

Luca Remas
Wolves, guns and home invasions! Oh my!

[11:08 A.M.] Cul-de-sac.

Luca hadn't been quite sure what had been going on for a little while now. At first he was seeing wolves. He thought maybe he was imagining them. That maybe the lady from earlier had infected him with something. This had worried him quite a bit indeed. He'd seen her die. In great detail. He had photos. And he didn't want that to happen to him. But then there were gunshots. And explosions. And general noises that meant other people were seeing the wolves too. So Luca found himself in the strange situation or feeling relieved that huge wolves were on the prowl and looking hungry.

Then, worryingly, he heard something that sounded like breaking glass. In his house. And so he had hidden behind the sofa. And then he saw the reflection in a very dusty mirror. For a second he was just confused when he recognized Madeline's reflection. He saw Madeline everyday. There was no chance he was mistaken. It was her. But why was she breaking into his house? And was that a gun? He decided to take his chances and popped out from behind the sofa.

"Where is it?" She asked simply. She wasn't surprised by his sudden appearance. She was obviously in serious soldier mode. Which, Luca deduced, meant she must be here to save him from the monstrous wolves! His emotions began doing metaphorical back flips of joy. And then, just as he was about to answer her, a mass of black fur took her down to the ground. And Luca's happiness was brought to a swift end. It was only downhill from here he knew. All he had waiting for him now was a painful death at the jaws of a wolf. He couldn't fight people. He certainly couldn't fight any wolves. The light at the end of the tunnel had just revealed itself to be a speeding train.

And then suddenly there was a sound like thunder and part of the wolf exploded. Against all odds Joe had arrived to save the day. And Luca, as is his nature, got a good few pictures of Joe taking care of the wolf. Bothe Joe and Madeline told him to get into the basement, where he would be safe, until they came back for him. If there was one place he was always happy to go, it was the basement. He was being sent to wait in his favorite place while other people do the dangerous stuff. Despite the craziness, Luca was feeling pretty darn good with his situation. He was, in a town gone crazy, relatively safe.

But first things first.

He snapped a quick picture of Madeline and Joe, covered in blood, just as they were about to go upstairs. They didn't look very happy in it. Somewhat annoyed, confused and filled with disbelief actually. He decided that, when he had the time, he would work on a name for it. He rarely gave his photos names. Just 'This one' or 'That one' usually. And he rarely got to use the names in any case. Most people weren't interested in his photo's. It was just a very sad fact of life. He threw his satchel over his shoulder and went down to the basement. He folded his newest photo in half, pinned it to one of the few empty spaces on the wall and sat down. There was nothing much to do now but sit and wait. Wait for friendly face to save him, or wait for death. He decided to simply admire his photos while he waited. If he was indeed waiting for death he couldn't think of a more enjoyable way to do it.

Maximilian Dowell

The past few days of travel had been somewhat annoying for Max. Not that there was anything particularly wrong with the company. They all seemed pretty okay as far as he had seen. No, it wasn't the people that was irritating. It was his horse that was the problem. He'd taken to calling her Eileen. Because when she walked all of her legs seemed to have a different length. It was the wonkiest, wobbliest kind of horse he'd ever ridden. It felt somewhat like you were getting sucked into a whirlpool. A whirlpool that couldn't decide which way it wanted to spin, or if, perhaps, what it really wanted to be was a waterfall. Needless to say that every time the group made camp Max was a very happy man. The promise of the upcoming town was even better.

As soon as they arrived in the village Max was off his horse. It was nice to be on solid ground. As a strong looking old man came to meet them Max took glanced around at the village named Yorrick. It didn't look like much. He was just about to ask the old man a question when, as they say, then the dung hit the windmill. Suddenly there was a man running towards the gate with a child on his back, with wolves hot on his heels. The lancers kicked into action almost instantly. People began rushing around, settling into nice places for shooting arrows and the like.

Then he heard Vasilia shouting orders at people. He didn't remember her being made leader. And he couldn't help thinking she'd get them all killed. But he decided to give her a chance anyways. Because in her plan he got to be a badass defender on the front lines. He never really got do do that too often. Usually he was much more careful. But this time, from the look of things, it was just wolves. He felt fairly confident he could take on a wolf or two.

Swiftly he grabbed his shield and spear from their holsters on the side of Eileen, and walked over to the gate. He raised his shield and got a firm stance ready. Any wolves that got through the village gate could expect a nice and shiny spear-head rushing towards their neck.

Luca Remas

[9:32 am] Cul-De-Sac

Without warning the lady Luca had photographed made the face. The face that a bottle of champagne would make when it's cork was just about to go flying. And once that cork pops, things get messy. Luca had always thought that he was mentally prepared to watch someone throw up. He'd seen it before, he'd see it again. It wasn't that bad. At least, that's what he'd thought.

The pure distance that this lady achieved was already freaky enough. But the colour was the worst part. The colour was what really bothered him. So Luca did what he usually did when something surprised and scared him. He backed away quickly whilst taking a lot of photos. He didn't think about it. He never did. It was a reflex. A weird one for sure. A reflex that, quite possibly, was unique to Luca. But it usually helped him out. A few big flashes of light on the scary thing and he was gone. And then, later, when he had successfully pulled off his disappearing act, and was in a nice safe place. He'd be free to take a look at the pictures. He could get a look at whatever it was that had freaked him out. Nine times out of ten it was a bit of wind making something move, or a small animal making a weird noise. Though, occasionally, it would be an angry and dazed looking person, trying to squint through the camera flashes.

This time however, after fleeing to his home, he took a look at the photos and realized he had managed to capture a most gruesome slideshow. The kind of thing he wouldn't even see in his worst dreams. It was like she'd tried to turn herself inside out and these pictures captured every step of the valiant effort. He was horrified by them, yet transfixed.

"Luca?!" Came the voice of Grandma from upstairs. "Is that you? Why aren't you at school?!"

"Something, uhmm... Happened... Outside!" He shouted back.

There was some movement upstairs. He could hear Grandma moving to the front on the house. He heard the window locks being opened. The squeaky hinges. Grandma was very curious indeed to go so far as to look outside. A few moments later his Grandma shouted down to him again. "If that's what it looks like, then you should probably call the police!"

"O-Okay!" He replied. He hadn't thought of that. Why hadn't he thought of that? He went and grabbed the phone, took a calming deep breath and called the emergency number. "Hello? Uhh... Police? Okay. Good. Uh, right, okay. So... Something happened. You might want to come and have a look. It's... It's not good." He peered out the window, trying to keep an eye on the situation. "Ah, umm... No. I think it's too late for an ambulance. Almost definitely."

Luca Remas

[7:00 am]

It was early morning in the Suburbs. The sun was still low in the sky. The chill of night was still in the air. And Luca's house was silent. Even Grandma wasn't awake yet. You could tell because the house always felt slightly ominous when she was awake. Especially at night. It was a very strange phenomenon, though Luca had long since gotten used to it.

Quiet music started to flow into the air, spreading like a mist over to Luca in his bedroom. A bedroom that was really more of a mattress in the corner of the kitchen. He'd stacked some boxes around it to give the illusion of walls at least. For a while he kept his eyes closed. Just relaxing and enjoying the song. Sunday morning. He let out a little sleepy chuckle. The perfect song to wake you up on a Monday. It get's rid of that Monday morning feeling by putting you in a Sunday mood. He got out of bed, made a cup of tea, then sat down with a bowl of cereal and a couple of songs. He wondered why some people don't like mornings.

As he got dressed he noticed a tender spot on his arm. It looked like he'd been bitten in his sleep again. It happened often. But lately it was getting more frequent. His grandma had said she'd deal with it, but she didn't seem to have done anything. Some of the bites were in the same place making them hurt twice as much if he hit it on something. Those ones almost looked like he'd been poked with a needle. He decided he'd have to look into getting some bug repellant or something. He was really starting to get annoyed by it.

He finished getting ready, packed his satchel, grabbed his camera and started to head out. He lingered for a moment in front of the basement door as he passed. Did he have the time? Surely it wouldn't hurt to go down for a few minutes? He looked out the window. One of the local mothers was standing there, probably waving her kid off, so the bus had just left. He still had plenty of time, right? Yeah. Of course he did. He decided to take a quick detour into his basement before biking to school.

[9:30 am]

"Gosh darn it! I'm so late!"

Luca came up out of the basement, carefully closing the door behind him. There was no point rushing at this point. An extra five minutes wasn't going to change the fact the he was already two hours late. He left the front door unlocked as he left, one of Grandma's weird rules. He drew a few looks from people who knew he was supposed to be at school. Though not for long. Everyone was much more preoccupied watching someone else. A woman standing across the street. Was it the same woman he saw earlier? Had she been there the whole time? "Wonderful." He muttered at nobody. Not a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

He dropped his bike and walked towards her. He wasn't there anymore. He couldn't hear people talking or pointing out that someone was going over to her. He was in his own world. A world full of cameras, angles, colours and lighting. It was the perfect moment for a photo. All he needed to do was take it. He stopped a short distance away with his camera. After a bit of circling around her, and switching between tiptoes and crouching, he finally took the photo with a satisfyingly large flash. A wide smile spread over his face. Today was going really well, apart from the being late to school thing. And being late led to this photo, so he was glad he got distracted by the basement. "Ermm... D... Don't mind me..."
He said to the lady, feeling like she was watching him.
