Actually I haven't played beyond BWII either. Haven't played a 3DS game or seen someone play it so my knowledge on those games is close to zero.

1+2) I agree. It also makes you never want to go back to the early routes. Actually for this reason I really enjoyed Pokemon Emerald's phone system. The trainers you had saved in there got stronger after repeated battles (or at least some of them did). I think it'd be nice if that system was overhauled and improved. Adjust the trainers to the level of your current gym and earlier trainers being rebattle-able on those levels too (exchange "level" with the system of growth you have in mind). Gym leaders could also be programmed to use the level of your highest Pokemon (but have a set minimum level they're on, so they won't get below that). I think that would be awesome because the level advantage would then be nonexistent. That would set us back to the other trainers being some random set levels again though because there is no current gym level. I guess early trainers could still be weak but get +5 levels or whatever with every gym you pass?

Ok well, if the odd job missions would vary that much I'd find them interesting too. Nice change of pace. But I'd still like muh money from battling too. Or items from battling. Or items from those missions instead of randomly finding everything because apparently everyone in the PokeWorld litters like they have never heard of trashcans.

3) Crafting those items could be cool. Or well, just make them be obtainable through missions or make the ingredients be available in missions that can be redone after a while in case you lose something. I agree that some items don't have much potential to be held or worn, like Sea Incense or Magnet. But at this point it's probably too iconic to change them. Would also make trading with older games harder. Could be made more logical though as in braces or whatever as you suggested. Video games are generally unrealistic about the stuff you can carry though so I don't see it as a deal-breaker.

4) Yeah, I get you. For players who have already played a game it's kinda "yeah I know water is strong against rock, thanks for the hint guy at the gym entrance." But as I said, I think this is supposed to be for people who still get to know the system and to help them learn about types. I agree that gym leaders should be quite a bit stronger than the other goons and be harder to fight though. Using some strategy and having attacks and mons specifically against types they are weak against would help.

Pretty much. It's hard to make puzzles/gym leader stuff have a difficulty that is appropriate for both kids and adults. A harder more version for adults would be kinda interesting... but I doubt they'll make an extra game for that.

5) Yeah defo, but the rival is a plot tool to get things rolling and keep you in check by randomly appearing at the end of some routes. I think the rival actually has a lot of potential to make the game more difficult and fun depending on where they pop up and how strong they are. Thinking of the teaming up thing you mentioned earlier, it'd be cool if you can choose a friend/rival out of three or four NPCs you get to meet in your starter village and team up with them more against evil organizations along the way. I'm thinking after you get your first Pokemon you will be sent on four similar missions, each time with a different NPC who has their own unique Pokemon, battle style, and character and at the end you pick one as your friend to travel with/have as a close rival/friend by exchanging phone numbers (or whatever). You will progress at the same pace as that character and meet them around town/the routes, while you also occasionally team up with them against the evil organizations and on missions. The other two or three NPCs you didn't choose will just randomly pop up a few times throughout the game like the traditional rivals since they have the same goals as you. More to implement but I'd find that cool, since it gives more of a personal touch to the game too.

6) I always keep my Masterball for one of the roaming legendaries bcs I cbb chasing them. If there happens to be none I still have it at the end of the game so I feel ya. Your solution sounds kinda good to me because I find it to be a drag to catch that many, but then again it makes catching Pokemon kinda lame and the Pokedex almost redundant, so I can see why you wouldn't like the dex. In D/P/Pt you only needed to collect "seen" Pokemon to finish the dex to unlock whatever it was it unlocked and not catch them and that was cool. To keep the Pokedex relevant I'd like it to just unlock basic info when a Pokemon is seen, but add some extra trivia for catching them. I was thinking about also getting that extra info from doing missions and interacting with said Pokemon more, but idk if that would still be the same game or how that would be implemented in detail.

7) If completing the Pokedex is the main goal it'd be kinda lame if it was so easy to achieve though imo >: Maybe there could be some way of NPCs asking you to catch a Pokemon for them and you then giving that Pokemon away? You wouldn't have to store them that way and you'd still have their complete entries (for Pokemon who don't evolve at least).

Yeah, but then again cults exist irl and some people don't realize they're being exploited either, while most people don't do anything about terrorists. Wouldn't do anything if you gave them a weapon either. It's dangerous. The way it's pictured in the games it just seems like everyone is dumb though.

You're right, thinking back on it, the champs are around to give items but they don't participate in going against the evil teams much. I never thought about this but you're right about the R/B/Y champ. Who even is he? But I think the champ before Blue/Gary was actually Lance. Iirc when you beat him he says he would have been the last one to beat but someone just went and beat him before you came and you'd have to beat them now. In this scenario it'd be weird that he became E4 instead of getting relieved of his champ status though. And what happened to the other E4 whose place he took in that case? After rechecking he clearly introduces himself as the E4 leader and just say you have to beat another trainer, someone who beat the E4 before you and is the "real Pokemon champion". This just makes it more weird... almost makes it sound like there was no champion before your rival.

The problem with Steven is that he's a nerd. I think he legit got distracted by looking for rocks/stones in caves. Plus iirc he's the one to tell you to get Rayquaza while he's in Sootpolis and shit is going down? In that case maybe he stays there to make sure Groudon and Kyogre don't mess up the people there, which makes sense because he's the one most capable of protecting the people there, while simply waking up Rayquaza isn't as hard or dangerous. Shoulda helped with Aqua/Magma more though. Iirc Cynthia was busy figuring the myths out and what Team Plasma was plotting with them in D/P/Pt and keeping you up-to-date, so that's why she was gone/not fighting. Would've made more sense if that was your job while she beat them up though. Maybe she thought you'd be too dum for that. Gen5 champs are a trainwreck like most things in gen5 tbh. Dunno about the other games.

That's what I liked about gen4. Crasher Wake and that pink-haired kiddo were wandering around. But technically it's still their job to be IN the gym. It'd make more sense if they did some activities/trained in the gym and then had days off. As for the E4, I liked that about BW. You could see that Caitlin just sleeps and that ghost girl reads books. It's good to give them something to do. Also it's not entirely true that you're the only person to go to the League. Everyone on Victory Road qualifies for the League (even though their Pokemon say otherwise) and I remember NPCs talking about challenging them. Don't see how having more gym leaders would make them more relevant/make them go outside though. I think it'd result in the opposite because it's harder to make them all part of the story.

The League timed in which way? As in "only open from 6-7pm"? While I think this is the most logical way, it would be really restricting because it would mean that people have to play during that exact time and some people just may not have time during that time window ever or only once a week. Steven is the wrong example because he is a retired champ. But yeah, I like the hidden strong trainers that are not affiliated with the League. But again, it's kinda the E4's and the champs job to be at the League. Like people working in small businesses with little customers but still having to be there the whole day in case someone comes during the next two hours.

Actually I have played with that gym leader idea too lol. A Pokemon game where you can become champ rather quickly (without an evil team), but after you become champ or a gym leader an evil organization pops up. You then have to go figure out their plans while redoing parts of the game with new difficulty, new stuff, and new paths you couldn't access before, while guiding and fighting along with some kid who accidentally got tangled up with them (= playable character in the regular games) and making sure that kid stays safe and can progress. Meanwhile you get random phone calls of people telling you to get back to the League (at set times, not during something major or that'd be annoying) and you have to keep fighting off really strong trainers with mixed teams and make sure not to lose (when you lose it either resets back to the last call and you get some penalty or you lose your champ status and have to get it back before continuing the game by rechallenging the new champ). And in the end, the hardest and last battle of the game will be you against the kid you guided.

Having to wait a month when you miss something is terrible though. Don't think I ever played a game for that long... And if everyone was lvl 100 then everyone would have potentially strong teams, right? And it'd be challenging again. I think losing levels is actually a very logical and good idea. But it'd be weird if you had some Dragonite level 30 because it kept losing. Hmm...

Well, it's definitely not really an rpg. You don't really have stats and skills only matter for perks. Then the skill/perk system itself is broken, as in some stuff is op, other stuff doesn't work properly/is bugged.

Also, you won't travel by foot much because of the quick travel system. Not using the system is not really an option because the quests and environment were designed so you have to use it.

It's only as popular because you can mod the shit out of it and use all of the pr0n mods.

doing tasks reminded me of there being an option to lend other lords your companions for a time in M&B and now I want to see a mod that allows for bloody battles with soldiers being replaced with pokemen :<

I played three days and always speed roms up, as if it'd be hard or take long to complete it. This game was shorter than the actual FireRed too.

That doesn't sound like a Pokemon game but like just another open-world rpg like Skyrim.

1. Odd jobs such as side quests to get items exist already (go turn the generator off for me, have you seen XY?, etc). Feels weird to do trivial everyday stuff for money. I don't wanna play a chore simulator or get stuck in mini game galore to raise money. I literally play Pokemon to battle. That's the whole point of it.
Losing a battle should be a big deal though. What's the point of winning if nothing happens when you lose? You're supposed to become the Pokemon master/champ and not some guy who keeps getting steamrolled.
 
2. Pokemon already learn new moves by level. Fire Pokemon already learn Ember - Flame Wheel - Fire Blast or whatever in that order, by level. I don't see how having to use Ember 500 times to get to Flame Wheel is anything but unnecessarily annoying. Anything that can't learn Ember but Flamethrower per TM like normal types will have problems then. You'd have to make a lot more moves accessible to them by "level" (or growth or whatever you want to see it as if it's not level)
 
3. No more healing in battle is fine. You can't do it in stuff like the Battle Tower or PvP anyway. Only during regular gameplay. I don't see how these accessories are any different from held items? Or are you suggesting a Silk Scarf to boost normal type attacks is any different from whatever you define as accessories? Sure, some are kinda weird and could be changed to be more logical to be put on but I really don't see how that matters, since you don't see them in battle anyway. If your whole point is "make them visible in battle" then just say that. Although you'd just be showcasing your items to the other player then and be putting clothes and stuff on. I don't like playing dress-up.
 
4. They kind of do that. Take Crasher Wake in D/P/Pt. Water type while most of his Pokemon know ice attacks or ground attacks to mess with grass/electric types respectively. If you just want them to be stronger then sure, you could code them better to set stuff up. If you take the whole "this is a *bla* type gym" away that kind of defeats types though? Players are supposed to learn about types and how they work through that. I agree that at least the 8th gym should always be mixed type, like it is in G/S/C in Johto [16th gym]
Also no puzzles? I personally like small puzzles. It's not like any of them are hard enough to even make you think.
Why more than 8 gyms in a region? This is just a very arbitrary point of criticism. There's no real significance in that number and you just want more gym battles. I think it'd be too much for there to be more than 8 gyms because then literally every small town would need to have one and the overall adventure theme would suffer and become all about gym hopping. If you just want a bigger region... then sure, more is always better.
 
5. Yeah, the League is often a joke. But that's where stuff like the Battle Tower etc comes in after the League. Don't really see how introducing random NPCs two towns later instead of introducing the rival right in the beginning makes a huge difference. The rival is just motivation and a pointer to get moving. Or do you mean you may become rivals depending on how you interact with them? That would need a lot more programming.
 
6. Masterball is often for catching legendaries. If you take those out then the Masterball also loses its significance, yes. Not catching legendaries would also make sense to me cause they're way too powerful/important for a region to just be caught tbh.
Being forced to pay for them in a rented space when all you can do is oddjobs to get money is really fucked up. You'd just be doing oddjobs and not battling at this point. Since getting ALL the Pokemon is one of the main goals in the game it's kind of dumb to punish the player for actually trying to achieve that goal.
 
7. "poaching them all" is the goal though. A Pokedex helps with that. It's not an exclusive item for champions and not be understood that way. Don't see how it's justified that only strong trainers are allowed to collect Pokemon either.
The problem with the world domination plot is that most normal npcs don't even know about it. Think about it. You often get your info from gym leaders, the prof, your rivals, or by accidentally walking into them. It's normal shounen manga syndrome. Would be cool to team up with more people during gameplay though, like they did in Platinum where you teamed up with people to get through the forest or caves. It kinda seems dumb to just make it random NPCs who will hold no significance later. Not very good from a character delevoptment point of view.
The Champ is literally ALWAYS out doing things and helping you during your adventure in every game. Sometimes it's even a plot twist "btw I'm the champ" when you meet them. Idk what you're on about. Also if the gym leaders and E4 kept leaving too then how the hell are your other random NPCs ever going to get badges? They need to be at their gyms/the League.

I just gotta put this here: Calling Skyrim an rpg is an insult to the genre. Skyrim is an action hiking simulator with rpg elements.

First time. I didn't own any of the Witcher games before. Old pc was broken and probably couldn't have handled anything that's a little more demanding.

New PC is decent, so I can try a lot more games than before.
