#503595 Genre Merge: Ecchi & Smut

Posted by Viscoun on 18 January 2013 - 12:02 AM

You should be correct. But I know and I can find many shounen/seinen series whose content goes well beyond ecchi into smut territory.

for example? if they go into smut territory, you put the smut tag on them. simple, isn't it? welcome to the internet.

how about the manga that have ecchi/smut tags but no shounen/shoujo tags? what would you classify them as? would you know before you actually open the manga and read it?

there has to be a clear distinction between which manga contain sex and which do not, regardless of demographic. people only have the mental distinction that smut is more extreme because cases where it is more extreme are unbelievably common. unless you can suggest a smut manga that doesn't have sex in it?

smut, for sure, indicates clear sexual content, which includes the act of sex. ecchi is the genre which encompasses sexually suggestive scenes, but does not necessarily include acts of sex, which are in contrast pretty much 100% guaranteed to be included in smut manga. not everyone reads ecchi for sex, assuming there's any.

the point is, as a casual reader of manga, to me, there is a very clear difference between ecchi and smut, even if there is a so-called "polarity" between shounen and shoujo, and ecchi and smut. as i said before, smut is smut and ecchi is ecchi, regardless of demographic.

besides, there are a lot more fish in the ocean than the 2500-3000 you've found. and also, new readers may get confused. if you put the smut tag on manga that contain one or two panty shots, won't that deter a lot of people?

i like the original, but this sounds a lot better... i'm just an instrumental person

#498490 What is your avatar from?

Posted by Viscoun on 13 January 2013 - 03:18 PM

I have no idea, I borrowed it from svines85...

i've had a lot of avatars though. some of them include:
yoko from gurren lagann
"the boy" from spec - rei
rin from fate/stay night
meiko the vocaloid
yukino and yui from "my youth romantic comedy is wrong as i expected"
araragi and his sister from nisemonogatari

so yeah.

For a while, I've been trying out something light novel-esque. In and out of class, I've managed to write around 2 chapters and a bit, as well as a prologue. So tell me what you think

Some details about the novel:

If I get this down, the first few chapters, probably 3-4 chapters, will comprise the "first volume". Then, I'll see if I have any time to continue.

Anyway, here's the prologue...

And there you have it.

If you get bored easily, then watch out... it's quite long. (6 pages on A5 paper).

Anyway, enjoy... XD

#492776 Group Page Revamps

Posted by Viscoun on 09 January 2013 - 02:45 PM

i don't know if there's already a thread for this (i trawled through a large part of this forum but couldn't find anything similar... forgive me if i'm wrong T_T)

basically, what i'm thinking is this. batoto is one of the only manga reader sites that gives scanlators a large portion of the credit for actually making the manga available online in english/other languages. it would be a nice idea to allow scanlators to personalize group pages on batoto to make it seem more like a profile. for example, a group logo section/profile picture section, a list of last viewed, a tally of the number of views the page has had, and so on.

of course, i do recognize that there are a great amount of drawbacks. group pages right now can be edited by anyone, and so if scanlation groups begin to spend time organizing their pages, it would mean that if a troll comes along and ruins everything, all that time spent making their pages look nice would be wasted.

to solve this, special user permissions for different group pages may be needed. but it'll take years to organize permissions for so many groups. which is probably why this method isn't viable.

anyway, this is all the revamping i can think of for now. i'm sure there are plenty of improvement suggestions out there that i probably didn't see on the forum. it is a big community, after all.

thoughts?
