#1750706 Tell us your jokes! (even stupid ones!)

A woman with a glass of wine is sitting on her couch.

Her husband sits down beside her.

"I love you.", she says.

The husband asks, "Is that you or the wine talking?"

She responds, "It's me... talking to the wine."

#1750038 What are you drinking or eating right now?

Vodka and baloney.

No, not mixed together. That'd be disgusting... outside of my stomach. LOL

#1750036 Bring Harmony between publishers and scanlators

Posted by Bokuboy on 22 May 2016 - 05:07 AM

Here are my thoughts...

-

So, you're basically saying that you want people to pay you money for something that everyone can get for free* anyways?

(*Please Note: 'free' being a relative term for the availability of content provided by fans (scanlators) for fans)

Yeah, that is NEVER going to happen.

People do this stuff because they like it... and like that they can make other fans really happy by providing the translations they so desperately want because they are fans as well.

If you try to turn it into a business, into something that they HAVE to do, it will die a death so fast that you won't know what happened to it.

I can't really put it more bluntly than that.

-

If, by some sheer fluke, you got enough scanlators/groups, or even just exclusive raw providers with enough manga (and their relative licenses) to justify a paid business model, you'd take away everything that the community has been building for years. I agree with Mrvirus in the above post... the quality will severely decrease and not justify the cost.

That's what I believe, anyways.

Ugh. Cat (Oscar) just sneezed all over my new keyboard. Yuck.

Ha! That's not  yuck. I got you beat. How about my cat (Tigger) sneezing all over my arms and face (multiple times in a row). The first was on my arm and I was, "Aww, did you just snee-" and the second one in the face with my mouth open. Now that's yuck!

Top that. LOL

#1749854 What do you love? And Why?

I love losing myself in a good story. Like, when you read for a while and enjoy it, see the time and hours have passed. Nothing beats sinking into a good read.

Hi, Umedyn!

This is a good place to promote your stuff (while getting an eyeful of manga). If it draws more people into the the forum, then I believe it's more than welcome.

There's even a self-publishing option, if you upload chapters here. They love original stuff!

Plus, it's a good way to get new readers.

Good luck, and I hope you do well.

Welcome to the forum!

What do Tylenol and a walrus have in common?

They are both looking for a tighter seal.

What's green, wet, and smells like bacon?

Kermit's finger.

#1748469 Where Can I Find...? [Recommendations]

Posted by Bokuboy on 11 May 2016 - 02:03 PM

I'm not 100% sure it belongs here since it's English-original rather than a translation , but I'll mention the Life of Riley series, about a man who is whisked away from somewhere in Vermont (northern Appalachian Mountains) and lands in what seems to be an alternate reality where humans did not rise to become the dominant species.  This is followed by violations of the Prime Directive, intrigue, quality world-building, sex, violence, actual plot, and quality speculative fiction (Regarding the sex and violence: if I were to give the content an age rating, I would subjectively say it's about R17).

Book 1: Light on Shattered Water

Book 2: Storms over Open Fields

Book 3: Lies in Red Leaves (in progress, updates about once or twice per year)

Well, this is the recommending thread, so if you're recommending things, it belongs here.

Plus, I think it would make a good manga (less certain aspects of course).

I've read books 1 and 2, and a good portion of the third. I'm actually part way through one of the short stories that he wrote. It's a similar concept, but different circumstances, the beings aren't quite the same (no tails) and the location and time is different. They're all good stories, but there's a fair amount of unnecessary torture that I thought detracted from the story... and then the character's reactions afterwards was uncharacteristically pacifistic. But, still enjoyable all the same. I'll be reading the others there when I get the chance.

Thanks for the links!

#1748466 Dreams!

Posted by Bokuboy on 11 May 2016 - 01:51 PM

I have been feeling unwell, so I've been sleeping a lot the past few days, a few hours at a time.

I'm sorry to hear that. There's nothing worse than feeling bad and only being able to sleep in fits and starts.

Mind you, I always sleep that way. I'm up every couple hours, whether I want to be or not. I got into the habit back in college and never broke out of it.

I hope you feel better soon!

With the pleasantries out of the way, on to my dream:

Last night I had a doozy. If anyone steals this idea, I'll visit you in your dreams! I know Freddy personally. We're good friends. :D

I was watching it at first, and a woman was going to poison a new attraction, to kill hundreds of people... she climbed to the top of this big rock construction while talking to her date, who didn't know what she was doing and tried to convince her to come down. Anyways, 'Superman' walked up to stand at the bottom of the display, and convinced her to get down. Caught before she could plant the device, she climbed down and slipped near the bottom. He caught her, and when she grabbed him around the neck, she spilled a concentrated dose of the poison onto the back of his neck. It took only seconds, and he collapsed. She gasped and started to freak out. She'd killed Superman! I joined in on the dream as the real Superman, caught her, and had her date call the police. The man she'd inadvertently killed was an actor that was hired to open the attraction. Carl Westman was a consummate actor and he'd been playing Superman for years. I gave his eulogy... saying he really was a superman. He'd saved hundreds of people from an agonizing death. He was a true hero. The woman was dragged off to a mental institution screaming she'd killed Superman. I jumped back out of the dream and watched it a bit longer, until Clark Kent published the story in the Daily Planet with the title 'Superman Dies!' and all the details of Carl Westman's accidental sacrifice... and then I woke up.

So, another question: Can anyone else jump in and out of their dreams at will?

I've done it quite a lot...

A big bottle of vodka again.

I really need it now, though.

It's medicinal.

Yes, really.
