HOLY WOW I POSTED GO ME!

Now just gotta do an Okahame Sunrise one soon and I'll feel slightly less like garbage for holding so much up.

Arenthiel strolled forward from the dense patch of foliage he had been supporting me from. "Nice work lad. First round's on me later.", he said, though the words pierced the dense, pervasive silence that filled the space immediately after a battle. If the quiet before a battle is the calm before the storm, then this could be called the calm after the disaster. Even the most cynical and battle-weathered of warriors would be hard-pressed to find flaws in the execution from both Arenthiel and I. It wasn't a disaster in the normal sense, but a disaster in that something tragic had taken place here today. The loss of life is unavoidable, sure, but that doesn't make it any less tragic. Maybe in another, less cruel world these men who met their ends here could've been productive members of society. I'd like to hope so, at least.

Arenthiel gestured widely around him, "Looks like our work is done. Hopefully those inside aren't bungling their part", I had to suppress a hiss at that statement. I respect Arenthiel's skill and would gladly work with him in the future, but the air needed to be cleared soon. I have to say something, I can't let this go on. For us to work as an efficient and well co-ordinated team we have to trust each other. While he trusts me, and I trust him, I can't let things carry on this way. Faye and Deirdre won't stand for anymore pointless slaughter. "I'll check if this poor bugger is still alive.", Arenthiel glibly said as he cheerfully trotted towards the human that the bandits were carrying earlier.

"Look, Arenthiel, was it? I have to say something here. No response needed, but I'd greatly appreciate it if you at least considered what I'm about to suggest. No more pointless slaughter. I don't know what your issue is, and I understand clearly what you are doing is the most pragmatic choice, we can't continue to work as a team if this continues on. You aren't daft, you're surely aware that your... 'methods' have caused some friction in the group. Whatever captives we bring back will almost certainly face a death sentence from the villagers; this is fact. I know it seems like a chore, but it's our job to bring them to their fate. Maintaining order is a tedious and bothersome task, and though it could be claimed that simply killing the bandits serves its purpose in keeping the status quo, bringing them in to face the law does right by the kingdom and the people of Silkrin at the same time. Also, on a more personal note, I have no taste for killing surrendered opponents. I relish a good fight, don't get me wrong, but an opponent with no will to fight is akin to murdering a child. If I'm honest I might die some day because of this point of view, but my life means nothing if I sacrifice my principles in order to just stay alive. Just please, at least for the remainder of your time with us, please consider letting us deal with the surrendered bandits with a velvet glove rather than an iron gauntlet. If your life is threatened, shoot, but please don't execute unarmed, surrendering enemies who don't pose a threat. That's all; thanks for the assistance. Your archery is exemplary and I'd gladly fight by your side in the future, I hope you feel the same about me. I'll take you up on that first round, too. Now if you'll pardon me, friend, I've got two close friends and a new ally to go check on. I'll call if things are too hairy."

With my piece said, I readied Broken Fang and cautiously began the trek into the cave.

I was going to wait for Orc, to see if Ziku wanted to bring up any constructive criticism or concerns, praise, worship, etc. But then I figured Arenthiel would want to go check on the potentially alive captive anyways. :3

Yeah, sorry about that man! I've been busy, I'll try to work on a post this week.

Adrenaline hammered the back of my skull, my muscles tensed in reaction to the movements of the opponents in front of me, and despite all of this, it was almost a numbing feeling. My body was practically in autopilot as the thrusts and movements I practiced since I picked up the spear were realized. The feeling of impaling the bandit's skull... I don't think I have the necessary words to describe it. What was as incomprehensible as it was the strange feeling of elation that washed over me as I struck down another foe. It was... enjoyable. Not taking the life, per se, but succeeding in a life or death fight; outmaneuvering the opponents in front of me. It was the thrill of taking on an immense challenge and knocking it down while screaming, "What's next?!". It was a thrill I could see myself getting addicted to if not careful. Discipline is also an important trait. It's not wrong to relish battle and combat, but you shouldn't let it overtake you.

I shook my head and grit my teeth, facing down the remaining two bandits. This was no time to be thinking on this sort of thing. Save the meditation and reflection for when we make it out of here alive. Two obstacles remained in my path, and then an unknown amount lie in wait in the cave. I must be nimble. I must be lethal. Arenthiel, while of questionable moral standind, was without a doubt a skilled and respectable warrior in his own right. I must prove that I am deserving of the kind of assistance he's lending me. The remaining two bandits had hesitation and fear in their eyes. Though they'd likely killed before, it couldn't have been anything short of murder. They weren't used to the kind of resistance they had encountered with Arenthiel and I. Their lives were truly being threatened and they understand the gravity of their situation. Good.

I turned sideways and held Broken Fang like a pointed shield, positioned between my opponents and I. They would make a move before me. With Arenthiel supporting me, I have time and the tactical advantage on my side. I could simply avoid them whilst he picked them off. Indeed, it's what I should do, but I owed it to these bandits at the least to grace them with an honorable death. It won't make up for their lot in life, but it's a start. Come, bandits. Face your fate with courage for once in your miserable life.

It's quite the sight. Four pissed bandits barreling towards you, that is. It's like slow motion, except not at all and you barely have time to think. Well, the odds could be a lot worse. At least Arenthiel has my back. He's a crack shot and if I can stay out of his line of fire we can make short work of these goons. I just have to keep them entertained and not die. I grit my teeth, looked around at the surrounding terrain, and started lightly backpedaling as they charged forward. If they are dumb, they won't watch their speed and the fastest on his feet will leave the others behind. Worst case scenario, they surround me. Solution: Don't let it happen. If things start to look like I might get circled, I strafe out of it.

Posted by Orcraniil on 30 July 2016 - 05:49 AM

I'm still here, using tonight to catch up on everything I've missed so far.

EDIT: Alright, cool, I haven't missed as much as I was worried I had. I saw discussion of powers in the OOC and was starting to get a bit worried about how far back I was. I've got my initial 5 points spent in my head, working on sliding

it into my CS in the INFO thread right now.

EDIT Numero 2: CS updated in the INFO Cache, dropped 4 of my points into Reach and 1 into Raid. The Reach points only made sense given what Lance was trying to do when he first attempted it. Same goes for Raid. No points in Ruin yet, but seeing as there was such an easy way to tie-in the ability-point system with a previous post I couldn't pass the opportunity up. As for a post, I think I'm going to hold off until after the next update. Lance won't have much to say here.

Well, things had taken quite the messy turn.

In our rush to clear the camp of bandits, we didn't think to hide any of the bodies. A returning party noticed the dead sentrys and one of them let loose a shout warning the guys in the cave of the potential danger. However, Arenthiel was quick to act and his aim was as sharp as ever. He cleanly dropped the bandit who was carrying someone over his shoulders without hitting the hostage. I gotta admit, despite his ruthlessness his skill with the bow is something to be admired. I crouched lower in the foliage as three of the bandits charged towards the mouth of the cave. I cringed as the situation got hairier. They might be bandits, but they weren't to be underestimated. Arenthiel still hadn't been discovered and was preparing to loose another arrow towards the one who had sounded the alarm. I'll move after Arenthiel fires his next shot. I'll target the bandit he doesn't hit and if all goes well I should be able to land a solid hit with the element of surprise as well as the shock from having his ally just taken out right in front of him. Once these guys outside are taken care of we can collapse on the bandits in the cave. I suppose no good plan survives contact with the enemy for long.

I rolled Broken Fang in my hand once, uttered a small prayer under my breath to whatever God would listen, and steeled my heart for combat.

So since they are so short and I had a decent amount of free time on my hand I watched all of RWBY Chibi. They were actually really cute, some of the skits in particular were pretty clever. On the whole it's been an interesting and fun ride.

Now for the real information I wanted to talk about. I went to RTX 2016 this year, and, of course I went to the RWBY panel. So, info dump?

Yeah... Info dump.

On second thought I'm putting it in spoiler tabs because... well, it contains implied spoilers for Volume 3's finale

My plan to gather information was foiled a bit short before I could gather any actual information, but not by the bandits. The most he heard out of the bandits was some generic complaints, the kind you made idly and didn't expect a response. These bandits hardly fit the image I would associate with the word. They weren't grizzled, they didn't even look particularly rough if you looked past the equipment. They certainly aren't much younger or older than I am. I felt the thought of killing those around my age roll around in my stomach. Gritting my teeth I fought back the encroaching bile and took slow but deep breath, inhaling and then exhaling until I had calmed down.

Second thoughts on my plan to eavesdrop began crawling into my mind like a foul miasma. These "bandits" were too young and obviously low in the hierarchy. They wouldn't conveniently talk about some vital information as if this were some kind of novel and it was overly optimistic (and more than a little arrogant) to presume otherwise and think that I could easily listen in and then escape. I glanced towards the guard tower looking for an opening to fall back to. I was greeted by the sight of Fay moving low to the ground but with her blade drawn. They're planning something! I gripped Broken Fang and prepared for a fight. Despite how ready I thought I was, seeing one of the guards crumple so unnaturally and suddenly still caused me to hesitate for a second. I shook my head and made my move towards the lanky bandit. The sword-wielding bandit parried my attack as though it were nothing. Still off balance from the parried strike and more than a little bit mentally shaken, a sudden weight slammed into my side and knocked me flat on my back. I caught a glimpse of brown hair that could've only been Faye's. So that's what happened. I scrambled to retrieve my spear and regain my bearings before both Faye and I get executed. By the time I pulled myself up from the sorry state I was left in after falling the fight was over. Deirdre and the other Arturian had dealt with the other stocky guard, and now the lanky bandit was curled up in a ball and pleading for his life to Deirdre.

It was her decision to make, really. While she thought through her decision I withdrew into my mind and silently berated myself. I had put everyone else at risk because of my arrogance. I had underestimated the bandits, sure, but more so than that I had completely overestimated my resolve. My thoughts were interrupted by the same sound I heard that signalled the start of the earlier battle. A quiet whoosh and resulting thunk as the Elf executed the prisoner without so much as a word to the group. He turned to the rest of us and simply said "People don't change." Well, so much for having to deal with a prisoner I guess. I can see where he was coming from I certainly didn't like the way he undermined Deirdre's authority like that. It would seem we've picked up quite an interesting party member. Despite this, the lanky bandit still lived. He had some tenacity, I'll give him that. Deirdre proceeded to let the bandit know that he didn't deserve mercy after the heinous crimes he'd unleashed on people. I thought a dark expression passed over Deirdre's face, but I didn't really give it a second thought. She was surely thinking about the day the three of them had met. Deirdre passed her judgement on the lad, but it wasn't a damning one. Sure, he'd either hang in the village or serve the rest of his life labouring for the benefit of those he had harmed in the past. He didn't deserve a life that good, but he could maybe earn a little bit of his humanity back. With a solid blow she knocked the kid unconscious and transferred watch over him to a separate group.

Deirdre left it up to the group (with the exception of Arenthiel, for the obvious reason that a bow might not be so great in a cave) to decide whether they'd enter the cave with her or stay outside with Arenthiel. As much as I wanted to go into the cave and check things out with Deirdre, I decided that either at least Faye or I should stay on the outside. Something about the thought of breaking ranks with the two I'd sworn to stick with prickled my chest, no matter how temporary but I'd made my decision. If we were to split the group up with 2 outside the cave and a group of 3 going inside, it just made more sense that either Faye or I be the one to stay outside the cave. Geraint didn't seem the speedy type, and while I couldn't outrun Faye, I could certainly run down some bandits.

"Hey, I'll stay out here with our new friend Arenthiel. If you run into trouble and can't break off, let loose a shout and we'll come running," I shot Deirdre and Faye a smile "Stay safe."

#1749366 [RP] Okahame Sunrise

So, the group had decided to follow Yami and The Flying Temper Tantrum. An hour of walking through a seemingly damaged Okahame that seemed more like a dreamscape than something that was real and the group found themselves in a run-down warehouse in the middle of a field far in the Outlands. The inside of the warehouse was far from your expected abandoned-warehouse decor. In fact it looked like the warehouse was fighting a battle with the surrounding nature, and by the looks of it, the warehouse was on the losing end of an absolute beatdown. Foliage coated nearly every corner of the warehouse, and the sheer variety of types of plants was mindboggling for Lance at first. That's not even drawing attention to the animals. Critters of many shapes and sizes were scattered around the warehouse. Some eyed the newcomers with guarded suspicion, while others just carried on as if the pack of people didn't even exist.

"Oooookay then..." Lance whispered under his breath.

Some other girl who had been hidden in the shrubbery stepped into view. She had dark hair, an angular face, and a large tattoo on her chest.

The new female proved to be exponentially better at explaining the situation than Yami had. The dark haired gal was actually none other than Mriad, and the ruined Okahame that they were currently in was none other than three years in the future. Myriad, Yami, and Future Tailor came up with a plan to utilize the curious chat-group to prevent the... well, destruction of Okahame. According to Future Myriad, this is all mostly the result of Present Myriad. She wanted us to stop her without killing her. Simple enough, right?

Future Yami went into a pared down explanation of how they gathered the group together, followed by Myriad somehow projecting the beginning of the end. Supposedly "us" or the group currently gathered by Future Myriad, Future Yami, and Future Tailor are the key to stopping this mess. She let the group feel what it's like for the first wave of the people utilizing their crazy power. While giving these people power like gods, it was also a corrupting power. It gave them an arrogance and disregard for others that made Lance a little sick to his stomach. Sure, being selfish is okay every now and then, but Lance lived his life with the motto that most everyone is deserving of a certain degree of respect; that despite their inherent vices, people could do good. These corrupted feelings were the antithesis to that. These powered up individuals were behest only to their own whims and desires, regardless of the cost to others.

While Myriad had showed us just what we were dealing with, she said she had also "flipped a switch" per se, and that we would be Reborn soon enough. Headaches were to be expected, but long story short, we get our powers before we should, we train up, we prevent this future. If he weren't surrounded by would-be allies, Lance felt he might actually be overwhelmed.

The rendezvous was cut short by a few of what were easily assumed to be the group's would be adversaries. The group was dumped back into their time without too much guidance. "Find Quail-Man", a task Tailor took upon himself. Despite how confused he was on the outset, Lance couldn't argue the guy had a knack for tracking down people.

- - - -

As Lance made his way to the warehouse where the chat group had met Myriad three years from now, he rolled the past two days of playing with his powers in his mind.

Upon heading back to his apartment, Lance pulled out a notebook and flipped to an empty page and took notes on everything that had happened until this point, and then he wrote down each of the chat groups' physical characteristics and their personalities at first impression. Thinking of the long game, Lance was betting on everyone else to pick one or two of the powers to specifically work on or be talented with and tried to draw a parallel between their personality and what powers that might be so that he knew just what areas the group may be lacking in. Several hours of conjecture later and he'd made no progress. Though he could make a rough guess as to what they might be incline towards, there were no certainties. Leaning over to look at his clock mounted on the wall, the faint light filtering through his blinds illuminated the hour hand is it slowly crept towards the five. He'd been at it all night and a chunk of the morning. Releasing an exasperated sigh, Lance came to his answer. If he couldn't predict what weaknesses the group would have, he'd strive to cover all the bases.

After a short 5 hour rest and small breakfast Lance sat down at his computer desk and decided to start practicing with the power that concerned him the most. Raid, the ability to influence someone elses mind. Though far less physically threatening than Reach or Ruin, the potential to have ones mind read or worse gave him chills. Unsure of how to even work on such an ability, Lance turned off any noise in his room and closed his eyes. Trying to clear his mind, he imagined building a wall around his thoughts. Slowly, rythmically, like a stone mason enjoying his work. When he opened his eyes he realized he'd been sitting in the dark for almost four hours. With no way of knowing whether it'd worked or not he stood up to stretch. Rather, he tried. As soon as his legs fully extended his head exploded like someone had just drove a nail directly into his brain. His knees buckled and he collapsed to the floor. Gritting his teeth to avoid screeching in pain, Lance lay there in agony for what felt like a couple of hours. When the pain had subsided to the dull thrum he'd had since the encounter in the "future" he slowly climbed to his feet. Glancing at his wall clock again, barely 5 minutes had past. The realization crept upon him that it was likely every power would result in crippling pain. It was going to be a long two days.

Next up was the one Lance was most interested in giving a try, Reach. Since he had only just been Reborn he settled on what he thought would be the simplest use of reach. Taking a lighter that he had from his younger years when he smoked, he spun the spark wheel and the flame appeared. Gently setting it on his desk Lance stared intently at the flame. Lance entirely on the flame as it danced lightly in the slight breeze in his room. Lance stared at it for an hour, willing it to extend upwards. The flame responded, if ever so slightly. Or he thought it did. With something as fickle as flame he couldn't be sure. Well, he thought he couldn't. Pain struck again, this time more than just a headache. Yeah, the headache was there, but the worst part was the muscle pain and cramping. Of course it'd be more than a headache, Reach strains the user both physically and mentally. Straining, Lance cut the flame on the lighter before it set fire to the apartment.

Fearing that his muscles would backfire if he moved, Lance stayed hunched over his desk for roughly 20 minutes contemplating just how his life got so miserable so fast. In jest, of course. Despite the agonizing pain he had to admit that getting tangled in this mess was thrilling. Certainly more interesting than his boring life up until now. Well, relatively boring. Deciding he'd abused his body enough for the day, Lance logged onto the chat and shot out a message to the room.

Spoiler

Mentioning the powers directly would just be asking for it from present Myriad, and Lance was fairly sure he'd mentioned that he often goes on jogs in the mornings. It wouldn't be too far of a logical leap to say he goes to the gym as well. He doesn't, but that's another story.

Lance arrived to the warehouse a bit late to the party, observing nearly everyone else already in attendance except Tailor. He must've slowed down while he was lost in thought.

"Sorry for my tardiness," he said, and then remained silent while Yami explained Reach, Ruin, and Raid in more specific terms. Felt like he had the right idea with Reach and Raid before, but he never did try Ruin yet. He kinda put it off a bit too much and now the chance to play with it by himself was gone. No matter, they were here to train, no? He'd get his practice in.

The conversation carried on with Joey and Dahlia asking of Yami's expertise while the rest quietly listened. Rosca chimed in with a fairly smart question, and a pretty cute idea for a name for the puppy. Dexter chimed in with his own questions, the second question was a very good one. What is preventing US from succumbing to this "corrupting influence" that affects other Reborn. Did we just win some sort of Superhuman Lottery, or was there more to it? Did it have something to do with genes, or something about personal experiences?
