I personally don't really like the idea of a reputation system. Batoto's is better than quite a few others since it doesn't allow negative reputation, but even then I can't agree with it. I find that a lot of times with +/- reputation systems, members who have unpopular (but well argued) opinions will have crappy rep because people who don't agree will negative rep them. It undermines the member's credibility and basically trains them to conform to popular opinion.

Reputation is literally a popularity contest, since you're pressured to post stuff that other people will like, and you have to continue to do so or everyone else will catch up to you. Some people become overly motivated to increase their rep and will do so in not so awesome ways, and it fosters a hierarchy between newbies and older members.

Which I guess is something that people will say is good, but I disagree with them.
