#1853832 Batoto will be closing permanently

Posted by bushwhacker2k on 08 January 2018 - 06:47 AM

My favorite part of batoto was coming to read manga and not seeing "MangaPanda", "ReadManga.Today", "Mangahere.com" and things of that nature. I have yet to find another site that bypasses those obnoxious leeches as well as batoto did.

I wonder if there's some kind of scanlation team directory? I always end up going to manga-sites like these, rather than the scanlation team websites, because I can never find them in searches without knowing exactly what to look for. Maybe it already exists and I'm just not aware of it.

Whatever the case, best wishes with your future endeavors.

EDIT: OMG, post above mine used the word 'endeavors' too! I was posting this from page 1...

i've been reading manga from manga viewing site since 8 years ago since my high school times. Many sites come and goes, my journey from onemanga to batoto. It sadden me that one of the best manga viewing site have to end. Thanks for everything, i hope your decision will bring good luck to your life. Godspeed

Yeah, my manga-reading experience really began with onemanga.com. When that shut down ages ago, I used mangafox for a while (but it just wasn't the same) until I stumbled across batoto. I switched over with practically no hesitation (I think Purple Library Guy did too, see his post above). I don't know what the next great manga site will be, we'll have to keep our eyes open. If anyone spots a manga site that's particularly notable, mention it here.

I've been using MangaPark a little. I like how you can pick different versions of the translated manga. Sometimes I go through and even find a version that doesn't have leech websites' logos plastered all over the pages... usually not, though. :(

#511727 Promote your favorite manga(s) using 1 picture.

Posted by bushwhacker2k on 24 January 2013 - 03:55 PM

Just as the title said, try to recommend other people your fav manga by using 1 page/picture of that manga. Remember, only 1 picture, so choose it carefully. Well, this seems a bit unfair for webtoons so maybe u can spend a bit more time cropping the panel/page that u wanna show and remember to use the spoiler tag. Don't forget to leave the names of the manga either.
For example:

Shamo

Spoiler

Shibatora
Spoiler

Berserk

Shin Angyo Onshi

P.S: I know this stuff will take some extra time but please do your best and make this thread awesome! My 1st thread btw :D

Excellent first thread, this is a great idea IMO. Getting people interested in certain manga without spoilers.

Because of this I'm now checking out Shin Angyo Onshi, which sounds familiar but I'm pretty sure I've never read it before.

Posted by bushwhacker2k on 06 October 2012 - 05:05 PM

Spoiler

But that was an honest mistake. After seeing Rikku's reaction when he talked about his background, Tidus decided to keep things to himself. Not to mention, remember that before this scene Tidus had been attacked by Sin, been thrown overboard, and then woke up after being hit by a blitzball in the middle of the ocean. Do you really think that a momentary slip of the mind is that big of a deal after such a traumatic event?

This example is largely different from the way you described Tidus in this post, which is why I replied to it in the first place

Tidus follows the situation well. I also don't remember any times when he acted ignorantly. Yes, he's not famliar with the customs of Spira; he arrived just yesterday. But he had no problem respecting their laws and tradition whenever they DIDN'T conflict with his beliefs.

Okay, I'm gonna be wrapping this particular point up now, not going to reply to it anymore in the future.

You bought his actions as 'part of his character' and didn't judge him negatively for things he did. I negatively judged him because I didn't approve of the way he acts overall.

You like the game. I don't.

Spoiler

First of all, it's your view of Tidus as "meaningless" that makes me seriously doubt your experience with FFX. I went out of my way to point to specific instances where Tidus left a huge impact in the plot, but you haven't resonded to any of those points. Lets also remember that the game's point of view revolves solely around Tidus (up until his death), so common sense would dictate the the entirety of FFX's plot would be strongly entertwined with his own story. So yes, it's his story.

As far as Tidus's existence goes, there's a possibility that he existed long ago in the universe that Yuna and co lives in right now. It's possible that he was killed once by Yu Yevon and Sin and then was recreated (along with his dad and other people) in the dreams of the fayth. But neither of us are well-informed about this topic so I doubt we'll reach any conclusion. In any case, his existence is grayish - there's no clear reason why he existed in the dream Zanarkand in the first place.

Going to your reasoning, Yuna would not be more fitting as the main character because of her past. Remember that the plot of FFX is one of people standing up against a corrupt and age-old system and solving things in their own way. Yuna had grown up brain-washed by the rituals of Yu Yevon. She was completely fixated on finishing her pilgrimage the same way her father had, and she was ready to sacrifice her life for a mere 10 years of peace. But instead her party decides to destroy the system by killing lady Yunalesca (in other words, the only method of obtaining the final aeon). There's only three characters who's backstory would fit these rebellious actions:
Rikku - An Al Bhed, who thought that Yevonism was bogus from the start
Auron - A former guardian, who KNEW that Yevonism was bogus from experience
Tidus - From a completely different world, doesn't agree with the practices of Yevonism because they conflict with his beliefs

But to end this discussion once and for all, let's talk about the theme of irony. It's ironic that Braska's party, which consisted of a crazy drunk from Zanarkand (Jecht), a discharged imperial soldier (Auron), and a heretic with an Al Bhed wife (Braska) were the saviours to bring peace to Spira. It's ironic that Tidus, who's father(Jecht) had constantly been a mentally oppressive existence, comes to a new world only to deal with him as a physical and lethal presence(Sin). It's ironic that Auron and Tidus, the biggest roleplayers in the plan to overthrow Sin, work as mere guardians in Yuna's party. The fact that Tidus (as the main character) acts as a follower is nothing but a beautiful irony.

The backstory is more relevant to Yuna, and you pointing out that he took the spotlight (my belief for this is the targetted demographic) as a mere follower is pretty much my whole reason for this train of thought. (That along with the fact that his entire existence is debatable)

Spoiler

You wrote things that were blatantly false about FFX (no matter what your understanding was). I prove them wrong with some examples. Then you get angry at me and say that you were talking about something completely different in your posts.

Yeah, I was definitely overstepping my boundaries with this one

No, I was speaking from a perspective where I understood what I meant and you tried to use this against me to win an argument about a video game.

I'd say "I actually haven't been angry this whole time", but in the flow of the arguments of fanboys I've had in the past, you'll undoubtably claim the same.

Spoiler

Let me debate your argument with your own argument. So Tidus and co. fight to the death with Seymour. In their wounded state, would you expect them to have the strength to deal with an entire army afterwards?

This is the first point I made in this comment all over again. You're giving them the benefit of the doubt by piling up reasons why they wouldn't be able to do this, but I don't buy the whole "oh no! average guards! we just beat up somebody with some of the strongest aeons in history but those are simply too much! there seem to be at least 2 of them! oh no!" as a legit reason for the whole debacle.

As with the first point, I'm not going to comment on this one anymore. You like the game and thus give the benefit of the doubt, I don't and thus don't.

#376264 Are RPG games dying or getting better...

Posted by bushwhacker2k on 03 October 2012 - 04:48 AM

Did this start because i said ''Tidus and Yuna are the best romance couple in FF'' if so i apologies,
but if you guys are having fun then keep it coming.

No problem :D I just noticed we were discussing the decline or rise of RPGs and we got on the subject of one such RPG which I'm opionated about and then I think someone took offense : /

Spoiler

I was talking about this post. This is also the post that I responded to, and the post you complained about me responding to. So why bring up an entirely unrelated post into this discussion? This post, unlike the other post that you brought up, is clearly not subjective and IS subject to debate

I was actually just making up a theoretical reason as to why the outfit looks (in my opinion) bad.

Spoiler

Can't believe I'm actually responding to this, but this post is gonna be long anyways so whatever. My belief that you hadn't played FFX was simply my opinion. I clearly bolded out the parts where I said "It makes me difficult to believe" or "in my honest opinion". I was never saying that I knew whether or not you played FFX. I was simply stating my opinion. If you can't tell the difference between an accusation and that then I don't know what to say.

Rather, I didn't bother to make the distinction because a repeated implication ends up being an accusation...

Spoiler

What this proves is that you're clearly lacking knowledge about this topic. You just stated something that's completely false about Tidus, not to mention you tried to use it in your own argument. I'm fine with debating over the kind of character he is, but until you start to actually give real examples without just saying generalities like "Tidus acts without thinking" we really can't go anywhere.

I seriously don't understand what argument you're making in this post... he is told earlier not to repeat that he comes from Zanarkand then within a matter of minutes declares his connection to Zanarkand. This implies that he isn't using his brain. This irks me. What about this implies that I'm "clearly lacking knowledge"?

Spoiler

lolwut. Yuna's the main character of FFX? Are you talking about FFX-2? Yuna is more connected (than Tidus) to the actual events of the plot? I'm starting to wonder if this is even worth arguing anymore.

But I'll answer this again just for the hell of it

Main premise of FFX: (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Jecht)
"Jecht eventually manages to assert some control and make his way to Dream Zanarkand, where he communicates with the now-unsent Auron and transports him and Tidus to Spira, hoping that Tidus would be able to find a way to destroy Sin for good where he had failed."

Conclusion: He does

You don't have to keep up the charade of not caring about this argument, it's pretty clear that my overt dislike of the game offended you and that you felt the need to retaliate.

It's more of a storyline problem, I suppose. I feel like Tidus was simply made to exist out of nowhere, when he isn't actually all that relevant in any backstories (seeing as how his entire backstory is fabricated).

Also note I never stated that Yuna was the main character, just that she would be more fitting because of her past.

Spoiler

Ok. Then don't put things like this:

Or could it be that you're just switching your words around in order to not look dumb? Hard to tell.

No, I understood my meaning. I never had to explain any of this to you. I just ended up giving reasons for why I didn't like the game. You didn't like them so you threw a tantrum and keep demanding that I change what I say and that I have no understanding of what I'm talking about. I've been far more courteous than most would in reply to your words.

Spoiler

I think my problem is what you wrote in this post:

1st fight with Seymour - Yuna can't send him because they get chased out by guards
2nd fight with Seymour - Seymour vanishes after the battle
3rd fight with Seymour - Seymour vanishes after the battle
4th fight with Seymour - Tidus and co. weaken Seymour enough so that Yuna can finally send him

Also, remember when Yuna tried to send Seymour again but she couldn't continue because the maesters threatened to kill Tidus and the other guardians?

BTW, Tidus and co. wanted to take care of Seymour every time that they met. It's just that they were unable to, and they weren't going to take time from their mission to find and dispose of a dead guy.

1st fight with Seymour - the crew fight him to the death after learning how corrupt and blatantly evil he is, and then allow a minor inconvenience like a few guards to prevent them from making a mistake that will haunt them as you prove by elaborating that they have an entire 4 fights throughout the game.

Seymour is in posession of some of the most powerful Aeons in existence, right? You yourself claimed this (and proceeded to call him an insignificant villain, if memory serves [whatever sense that makes]). Then after battling him TO THE DEATH they allowed a few regular guards to prevent them from taking a significantly positive step towards a better future. A step they could easily have taken, considering he was dead right in front of them...

The reasons you're posting are merely justifications in the storyline, I don't buy them. This is my problem, that I don't like the way they ended up doing things because there was a clearly better path to be taken.

The fact that he vanishes not once, but twice, after a battle makes it come off as a cop-out, like they couldn't think of anything else to be doing so they decided just to make two otherwise notable fights, rather meaningless.

-

Okay, okay, let me try to elaborate on why my problems are not your problems.

The fact that we are both aware of the same things in this game, but that I have problems with them, doesn't mean that one of us is wrong. It actually implies that we had different reactions, different feelings on the same subject.

I've actually heard theories that arguing was designed as a method of gaining dominance in a tribal social structure, so simply backing down and admitting that you were wrong or that you were more aggressive than was necessary aren't things people intuitively do.

For this reason, I'm not going to hold it against you that you're not backing up and agreeing to disagree despite (what I think) are pretty decent points supporting such an action.

Though, from my experiences with unreasonable people in arguments, it's not unlikely that you're going to 'claim' these arguments as your own and imply that I, in fact, am the transgressor of any wrong I highlight and you, merely an innocent (and right) victim. It would be very impressive if you did not do that, because many shameless people do.

I don't think this is how this works.

Yeah, I think this would be used to refer to manga that ONLY include One-Shots, not any manga that have ever had a one-shot. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Also, did someone named 'You' like the first comment? Pretty misleading...

That's a really good one, don't we all wish the bad times will happen to someone else?

I've actually always been in a strange place in relation to this statement, though my perception of that might be based more upon my mind than my environment and situation...

I've always planned and hoped for a really dramatic life-changing situation where I could step up and become the person I always felt I was meant to be, but it has not happened thus far.

I'm trapped in a cycle of mundanity, prepared for all the big things but not for the small things. Others seem to find solace in their repetitive lifestyles but I find myself always wanting something more.

Ok I'm going to leave the cat out the bag.

If there was an mmorpg where player characters would die for real and have to start all over again I would definitely want to play it.
If there was an mmorpg with inovating features I would definitely try it.

I don't disagree. What I've heard tells me that creating a real MMO is a large financial investment so people take few chances.

If you're looking for an MMO where you die for real, you might want to check out Path of Exile (similar to Diablo 2, currently in closed beta. should have a hardcore mode) or ToME (Tales of Middle Earth. It's a large, graphical, multiplayer rogulike. To my knowledge there's nothing else like it in existence).

This is probably taking a leap from the current topic, but I think that games will steadily deviate towards more interactive media and eventually the best games will have to be virtual reality (or something along those lines) because it'd be like reality, except in situations that wouldn't generally happen.

Aw, we all know that! It's no big secret! That's pretty much the state of MMOs today, now that WoW's set such a bland, money-making standard.

Quite. I'm kinda hoping humanity as a whole undergoes a kind of intellectual revolution, something like the Enlightenment, and currency becomes a secondary or even nonexistent resource; a quaint memory of a time past. Humanity's improvements in society have sped up in the past hundred or so years, but I know we can improve faster. I look forward to the kind of experiences we create then.

Not sure what caused all those Asian games to look like clones of each other though. Final Fantasy XI, maybe? That was big over there, right? I've never played it, so I have no freaking clue.

I don't know how big FF11 got, but I think the general style of asian games was copying Final Fantasy even before 11.

#284081 On definition of Justice.

Posted by bushwhacker2k on 31 July 2012 - 01:39 AM

To quote many an old-school rpg, "lawful evil". I think the importance of the point outweighs any "nitpickiness" involved. There is a vast difference between one who is seen as evil and one who lacks any sort of code. The latter simply doesn't exist. Even if they don't follow any government in the world they shall still do as their nature tells them.

Good point, while some people don't really care for the laws set upon them, everyones' brains work in patterns.

In my honest opinion, who truely has the right to say what justice truely is? One person's definition of justice is, most of the time, different from another's. Everyone views it in their own way. Another reason, is how can one truely tell right from wrong? Again, it varies from person to person, it all depends on the values they live their life by. So once more, justice is viewed differently, its all a matter of how you or anyone else sees it.

thats all I gotta say.

I understand what you're saying but I disagree, because while subjective things are just that, fundamentally certain things will be viewed as beneficial and some will not. Science wa seigi.

#277227 On definition of Justice.

Posted by bushwhacker2k on 26 July 2012 - 02:24 PM

People often talk as though crime, famine, inequality, etc. are just facts of life, when they don't really have to be. As long as we continue to think of them as things that must exist, we'll never get rid of them.

I JUST read a passage from Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality (rereading atm), "Yes," said Harry Potter, "it was pretty difficult coming up with a wish to symbolize the costs of unity. But the problem of acting together isn't just for wars, it's something we have to solve all our lives, every day. If everyone is coordinating using the same rules, and the rules are stupid, then if one person decides to do things differently, they're breaking the rules. But if everyone decides to do things differently, they can. It's exactly the same problem of everyone needing to act together. But for the first person who speaks out, it seems like they're going against the crowd. And if you thought that the only important thing was that people should always be unified, then you could never change the game, no matter how stupid the rules. So my own wish, to symbolize what happens when people unite in the wrong direction, is that in Hogwarts we should play Quidditch without the Snitch."

xD, I love this thing...

Hello all, can I reply in a while? There has been a lot of work to do recently. :)

I think so too! I think it’s rare to have great manga with great endings.. Do mangaka enjoy so much ending their work like shit so much? Though, this is just my point of view, not everyone’s.

Yeah, I often wonder what the creators feel when they let their work descend into mediocrity (or even start as mediocre works) because of sloppy editing, forcing them to pander to the common denominator...

Posted by bushwhacker2k on 21 July 2012 - 07:39 PM

Aha, I completely understand! Here I was struggling to define the concept just for the sake of defining it, while you're more interested in actually utilizing it for a practical purpose! I like you.

In the broad sense of crime punishment/prevention, I'm definitely on the team that supports prevention. And I truly believe the best method for that is education. Well, education and better living conditions. Most of the world's crime is born of poverty and desperation. But I think even white collar crime and maybe, hopefully, neo-colonialistic exploitation could be prevented with more comprehensive education. The mindset that it's alright to take advantage of those beneath you so you can gain more personal wealth isn't "human nature", it's something that has to be learned. And if something can be learned, then it can just as easily be changed to the point where it can't be learned, right?

Heh. Well, I realize what a big lofty dream that is. Maybe once I've taken over the world...

(By the way, by "education" I do not mean rote memorization of mathematics and grammar rules or whatever. I mean the kind of education that encourages actual thinking and doesn't take an ethnocentric approach to history and politics.)

I quite agree :D I believe that true education (not indoctrination, breaking down peoples' mental structures and then building them up around beliefs you want them to have) is an absolute requisite in the prevention of injustice.

I also like that you mentioned living conditions. I, honestly, don't even like leaving my house sometimes... the community is in such disrepair and seems to lack a real sense of aesthetics. It's hard for me to elaborate on this particular subject, outside of the obvious (clean food/water, sanitized environment, etc.) but I feel like people would be happier if they really looked forward to getting around and seeing what wonders humans are capable of creating, instead of living inside of this bureacratically enforced shell in which everything revolves around money.

I've always been bad at explaining things =P Then let's say that the father and the child witnessed it by themselves...
I don't mind, I'm actually happy that you guys are interested with my rubbish

That's what forum threads are all about, right? Listening to each other's rubbish? =P

Agreed, I appreciate that you're still here trying to make a statement. Many people just see something deep being spoken of and evacuate.
