#1785102 Dreams!

Posted by Kusunoki on 04 March 2017 - 08:26 AM

I was in sitting in class, with a blanket over my lap. It was very dark and raining outside. A teacher (he was my debating coach irl) came in and talked about something I don't really remember. Then the dream faded into another. I saw another old teacher of mine. She has always been my favourite teacher and a very poised lady irl, but she quit being my teacher years ago so it has been 7 years since I last saw her. In my dream, I ran into her as she was getting out of her car. She hadn't aged one bit, and as we chatted, she kind of implied she was actually a vampire (wut).

Last night I had a dream like this:

A man that looked like a less unhinged version of Bucky Barnes and a woman that looked exactly like Natasha Romanoff stole the body of an old man, dressed in very tidy tweed and wearing shiny leather shoes. Apparently they were after something hidden in the secret compartment in one the shoes (not that I know why they went to the trouble of stealing the entire body when they could've just taken the shoe). While they were making their getaway in a van, the woman fumed at the man for not changing the pillowcase from red to something plainer, saying how they now looked like a beacon for their pursuers (not that I know how a red pillowcase in the back of a van would do that, or why there's a pillowcase in the first place). Then the woman said in Scarlett Johansson's husky voice, "I feel myself getting back in the game. I've been away for so long."

Then suddenly the van turned into a sedan in one of those dream skips, and one of my friends in real life was sitting squished against me in the backseat. He was a short but good-looking guy and pretty popular among girls in the department of Chinese medicine (yes that's what he studies). "Bucky" is still the one driving and "Natasha" is still sitting in the front. Then the car entered an outdoor carpark, and I saw a middle-aged woman walking with two young girls, and they all had beautiful long thick hair done in a bizarre hairdo. And they were all in swim suits. Natasha was like, "For god's sake, can't that hag dress her age?"

The car stopped, and I opened the door next to me. For some reason the carpark was filled with girls from the department of Chinese medicine, and they were glaring daggers at me when they saw the guy pressed against me in the backseat (along with the dead body).

Then I woke up.

I was playing a board game with a few 'friends' (people who were my friends in the dream, but who I don't really know in real life). The board game was about football (soccer to Americans), with numbers all over the place, in no logical sequence. I rolled the die and didn't know where to move my piece because the game made no sense whatsoever to me, and one of my 'friends' were like, "No you idiot, you go here!" And I was like, "Wait. Why?" I woke up before he could explain.

Been a while since I last posted because I've been sleeping like the dead lately.

  1. I was chilling on the street, when suddenly people came flooding in. Turned out Tom Hiddleston would be filming in the area. He arrived in a car, got out and waved at everyone. My friends knew how crazy I'm about him and pushed me up. I got a handshake and a hug from my idol. It was a really really really really really really nice dream :")
  2. I've probably been playing too much Otogi to have this dream. I was a daemon fighting a godzilla-like monster, but I couldn't crit it because my ally wouldn't buff me properly. After dealing a few light damage, I got killed.

I think I've tried crocodile meat when I was little. I don't really remember it though.

I'm pretty sure I've eaten snake stew too. It's a pretty common winter dish where I'm from.

Sorry it kept slipping my mind.

So I bought a box of camomile & honey tea, which I've never tried before. It didn't taste as sweet as I had expected, but it's pleasant enough, and very aromatic. I drank a cup as I did my assignment every night, and it pretty much put me to sleep very soon. I've always slept like the dead so I didn't note if the tea is particularly good for sleeping.

Buy some herbal/flower/fruit tea you've never tried before and drink it for a week. If you've already tried all kinds of teas, add garlic, milk and honey to your tea instead. If you're British, just refrain from drinking tea.

I'm taking this. I'll report on the result in a week's time.

I saw a friend showing off his new iPhone 7 on Instagram the day before, so last night I had a dream where I asked him to show me his phone. But he only had an iPhone 6S in my dream, and it looked nothing like an iPhone 6S lol

Been a while since I last had dreams that I remember.

First one:

I had a dream set in a dystopian world where people were relocated to seemingly perfect neighbourhoods. I was looking out a window, feeling uneasy. The view was so sterile it seemed unreal. Gleaming white buildings that were perfect cubes. Evenly spaced trees that looked unnaturally identical. I heard people speaking in low voices, discussing what the future had in store for us.

Second one:

I was on a swing. I flung myself off the swing and into the air when I hit the highest point. I was really scared for a second, thinking that I'd crash onto the ground and break something (or die), but I did this acrobatic somersault and landed perfectly like Simone Biles.

#1764103 Scanlations... One by One, or In Bulk?

Posted by Kusunoki on 11 September 2016 - 01:27 PM

  • Do you prefer when scanlations are released one by one (as soon as they are available) or in bulk?

One by one, or 2-3 chapters released together. I agree that too many chapters at once is a bit daunting.

  • What preferences people have when reading comics here. Do you read several chapters of a story in one sitting, or do you like to browse around a bit? How many chapters? How long are they?

I do love marathoning comics - I went through all 200+ chapters of Haikyuu!! in 4 days (with sleep, and not in a single sitting of course). But I also enjoy reading manga chapter by chapter whenever they're updated.

  • I'm curious as to how much text is in the comics you read as well, since I figure that series with less reading are a lot faster to read through.

Most of what I read aren't particularly text-heavy, but I don't really mind reading walls of texts either.

  • What are your thoughts on cleaning in scanlation? Does it have to be perfect, good enough, or neglected in favor of faster releases? How about on removing watermarks from online raws?

I'm a scanlator myself, and I'm all for quality. I'd leave the huge SFX untranslated, but I make sure we tackle all the small texts, easy SFX, and even the texts on stuff like signs, posters and phone screens. I'm also very meticulous about the typesetting. A badly centred text bubble bothers me to no end, but that's probably just me and my stupid OCD. But in any case, I'd say effective use of fonts, careful cleaning and good grammar beat speedy but shabby releases any day. [I swear all these alliterations are unintentional] It would be nice if readers could appreciate the efforts we put into giving them the best read experience we can.

  • Original raw quality vs. Compressed images

I second what raveysas said ^

  • What rules should be followed between scanlators?

I also second what raveysas said ^. I'm actually the kind that's rather possessive over what I work on, and it's pretty hurtful when someone takes what I've been doing right out of my hands, especially when I know I'm good at my job. I don't know about other groups, but it is my group's policy to never work on something that has been updated within the past three months, which is a pretty reasonable rule, I think, for others to follow as well - at least for series that aren't currently being serialised. There are so many series out there that deserve more love, why insist on wasting everyone's effort on doing the same thing?

And for international groups that do relay translation from English scans, it should be common practice to ask for the original group's permission AND to keep their credits page intact in their own release.

  • Do scanlators have a responsibility to communicate with readers?

I won't say it's a responsibility per se, but as a reader, I do like knowing what's going on behind the scenes of the scanlation process; and as a scanlator, I also enjoy exchanging comments and sharing extra information with readers.
