Would you rather someone tell you to "never give up!" or "anyone can do it, so you can do it too!"?

I find both a bit eyebrow-raising; if I was having difficulty I would find either sentiment to be a glib hand-waving of my difficulties. (I might feel different depending on who was saying it, but...)

Well, I suppose unless my difficulty centered around a lack of confidence. Then, I would just think they were tactless / needed better cheering slogans.

...I suppose if I had to pick one, I would prefer the latter. If I feel that one is ridiculous, I can just logically refute it.

Would you rather do ballet or figure skating, if you had to do one?
Myself, I consider both to be sort of horrid, at least for the performers.

Contribute to a useful discussion. Or even a useless, but thoughtful discussion.

I do like eating spam, though. :'3

Would you rather make something that's helpful for everyone, or make something fun but useless?

Love and lost

so i visited my friend who is still in coma on sunday in the hospital and was told that it was his wedding anniversary

so his wife put on all the wedding picture albums and had photos taped to a small posterboard leaning on a table in the ICU room, and i was thinking to myself that question... i'm really not sure

that's why wedding comes from the old norse word meaning to bet, so i guess it's fine, if both people decide to throw their lots and bet on each other.

Would you rather make something that's helpful for everyone, or make something fun but useless?

fun is not useless tho

i mean, just look at the people who subscribe to pewdiepie

there are lots of people making a lot of money trying to remind working class slaves the memories of fun

I hadn't heard of the "bet" etymology; though I see that some etymology sites do mention it. If so, it seems rather poetically accurate.

As for love and loss. This isn't very romantic, but from what I've seen humans seem to be better able to handle loss than they are loneliness. The people who never recover from loss often seem to be the people who don't connect with others afterwords (or don't have people around them, period).

However, I may be biased—I've experienced more loneliness than loss in my own life up to this point l, after all, so my perspective might be twisted.

I'd take the love and the loss myself, though, if those were the options.

would you rather face a problem you can't solve head on or just try to evade it

Regardless of whatever I'd like to think about myself, the evidence is pretty clear that I'll try to evade it. Ugh. x_x;

If there's a thread hanging loose from you clothing, would you rather pull on it, let it be, or go find some scissors and cut it ASAP?

let it grow, the best way to die according to the pureland buddhists is to die holding a thread (albeit a thread from a picture of the amitaba)

would you rather be motivated by anger or love?

By love, of the two. There are good and bad cases of being motivated by either, of course. But the good reasons to be motivated by love are more fulfilling than the good reasons to be motivated by anger, and the bad reasons to be motivated by love are more fun than the bad reasons to be motivated by anger, so love wins by-and-large.

Would you rather have your drink get warm over time because it has no ice, or get watered-down over time because it does.

both don't taste good but a watery-but-cool drink is still more refreshing than a lukewarm one.

since you people would rather love and lose

would you rather lose love to another person or to circumstance?

Sleep early and wake up early. All other things held equal, I'm happier when I do that. And I quite like mornings, the the smell and the cold and the pre-dawn light and the general freshness of the world as the dew still hasn't left the earth.

However, instead, going to bed around midnight has become standard for me. It's much more practical to go to the late side, both for social reasons and for avoiding traffic :/ If you're wondering why I can't go early to avoid traffic, it's because everyone else is already doing that, out of necessity, to make it on time for jobs that have standard hours, given the traffic around here.

Would you rather be stuck inside or outside presumably, for a short enough period that survival, at least, is not an issue

Depends on the cost (the more money I have the less it makes sense to subject myself to multiple trips in such a situation) and the ratio of parts involved (if I buy more than 1/3 extra I may start to feel increasingly wasteful)

Both are painful. I lean more toward overbuying as time goes on, I think, but I'm not sure.

But—Going out, or in?

I quite like the outdoors, personally. Even if I don't spend that much time there these days.

you can't bring the door down from inside, because the way the door lock wedges out. you will end up taking out not the hinge but the entire frame and more

would you rather sleep with the noisy ac / heater on or sleep with a jacket on

I sleep with a desk fan clipped to my bed about five inches from my face because I overheat otherwise. So that sort of answers the question, I think, though in my case a jacket would not be part of the solution in any case.

And to be honest I've come to quite appreciate the way it drowns out all other sounds.

i mean, I personally would never bring the door down in either direction unless it was an emergency, so I hadn't considered it much. (I do know how to break into my own house non-destructively in the first place. A screwdriver in the right place on the back sliding door, followed by a decent amount of lateral force applied, will do the trick.)

Would you rather make friends with a shark or an octopus?
