I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this topic, but can we please stop tagging comics with romance between a trans girl and a cis boy as shounen ai/yaoi? It's really disrespectful and offensive.

Since this is a problem with the tags in general and not the site itself, I think it would serve a better purpose on the Comic Hosting forum. Moving the thread.

There are a lot of people here who misuse the shounen-ai/yaoi tags. But if you feel a manga is tagged wrong, you can always change it yourself.

for starters I don't think anyone's lost sleep over this
the majority of those series the main demographic is yaoi fans despite it not being actually shonen ai
kind of like how "trap manga" are just repackaged ecchi manga
this is kind of a waste of time 99% of the manga you're talking about aren't exactly progressive enough to warrant a distinction
if you list any you want changed here i'll probably remove the tags if you still feel strongly about it by the time you read this

Well, it's another drop in the massive sea of shit we trans people (particularly trans women) have to swim through. It's nice being able to read some kind of representation of us that is not total bollocks, there are a few comics were it's pretty obvious one of the characters is a trans woman. Usually with a bunch of offensive and shitty language surrounding them, but still, at least a representation. To have that denied because some people are so afraid of us actually being the gender we are is really hurtful. One example comic, that I've regularly checked back on and regularly have had to remove "shounen ai" tag from is http://vatoto.com/comic/_/comics/ai-no-shintairiku-r5823 . I can probably bring up more examples in a bit, I have to reread some to confirm there are no background characters being shounen ai or something.

I can also go on for hours about how bad the "trap" term is, but that is for another day.

Another one that frequently gets tagged Shounen Ai (and sometimes even yaoi, wtf) despite one character being quite obviously a trans girl is http://vatoto.com/comic/_/comics/sazanami-cherry-r21

I'm not familiar with the topic that you mention here.

In particular I'd like you to elaborate what you mean by "trans girl" and "cis boy" etc and explain why the said reneges don't fit.

The way I see it, everything here a matter of definitions, so clarification on the subject would definitely help.

Trans girl: A girl who was assigned male at birth. Commonly means they have a penis and testicles, will go through a testosterone puberty unless blocked through some means. They are girls/women because they identify as such. Cis is the opposite of trans, if you know latin roots. For example, a cis boy would be a boy that was assigned male at birth.

Ai no Shintairiku: Heroine explicitly identifies herself as a woman (girl). Hence she is a woman.
Sazanami Cherry: The love interest responds to female pronouns, as much as that is worth given japans gender-neutral ones. She never outright states it, but if you read that story, it is quite obvious she identifies as a girl.

The hardships and contradictions arise because bigoted society tries to tell them their gender is something other than what they are.

You have stated it yourself things are the way they are because of the "bigoted" society. Even Batoto is part of that society and we have followed the guidelines that society gives us. I'm not so presumptuous that I think of us as a place that "rights the wrongs" of society.

I will think about what you've said, I can't promise a solution however since the problem doesn't really lie with "incorrect tagging" but rather with how society perceives things.

Thank you. You don't need to put quotes around bigoted, ever read youtube comments? On another note, tagging these mangas as shounen ai/yaoi does a disservice to those looking for shounen ai/yaoi I'd wager as well, if you're looking for men loving each other then these are quite far from that.

Edit: Too many commas.
