It has horror elements, yes.

I dunno. It feels more to me, and this may be a small distinction, as a psychological genre tag would be more appropriate. The event was tramatic for the character but I don't get the feeling that the author is seeking to portray meaningless strife and death that I find so typical of the horror genre.

this isn't horror in anyway.
if you think it is, i suggest you read or watch gantz.
and a few others.
thats true horror.

This is more, borderline Shounen -> seinen.
with drama and tragedy. not horror.

I wouldn't really consider GANTZ a horror either, tbh. It's more of just a really violent thriller.

Haguruma definitely isn't horror... not at all. More seinen, as Ulquiorra says. Seinen/angst/fantasy, to be literal.

I just want to take this moment to say that I'm happy to live in world where the words "More seinen, as Ulquiorra says." exist.

...

I forget the title, but there's old anime about spaceship battle ...

the special series of ancient spaceship it's self is quite unique and powerful ...

some of it can even regenerate broken / damaged / destroyed part without any maintenance ...

however the true power can only be shown if it EAT the pilot ...

if not it can only shown about 20% about it's ability ...

(not only blood ... flesh, bones, organs also count as empowering them)

the spaceship it's self is sentinel (have AI) thus can eat the pilot without their own permission ...

(there's code or something that sound like rhyme to reject that act tough ... HOWEVER they still try to eat the pilot whenever they can)

the MC spaceship have AI too and have same trait for eating pilot ...

yet the AI is tame and it refuse to eat the MC ...

(AI in MC spaceship being portrayed as girl)

well, if there's Hagurumo being fueled by human living body ...

(the machine sucking the BLUE blood until dried while in living condition)

then that might count as HORROR ...

(considering the fuel being made by blue blood, then this setting is quite possible)
