I wasn't expecting any better, but it's still quite sad to see what has come from buying the bato.to domain

One of the mangapanda-like network of reader sites.

 

I hope Grumpy sold it for a fortune, at least.

 

BTW, while I'm here, I wish you guys well in the future, wherever you land to, no matter what reader site you end up picking

It makes a lot of sense that one of those sites is going to buy batoto. Thanks for the answer but where did you find out who bought the domain?

Oh, that's the one I linked earlier today, looks like it's a part of/a mirror of MangaPark now, the same site'll come up either under mangawindow.net or bato.to  O_o

...Honestly I'm just glad that this was more profitable to someone than pornography was.

It does feel a little wrong though. Like it will be misused to represent their site as batoto to casual readers, or more frustratingly to anyone who followed any old notices saying "please use batoto". Such people will be few, though, I think.

Looks like it's a mirror of mangawindow.net.  Not sure if they're also mangapark.net...  I remember Viz fighting the mangapark people (NOEZ or whatnot) over and over again because they were blatantly pirating the big 3 et all. 

 

Ah well, sure beats seeing the domain fall to a porn spammer.

The reason they look similar, is because the same people that run those sites are also running the new bato.to site.

That's what rattles me, that for some people it will look like Batoto is still here. I'd have preferred it to link to crunchyroll with an affiliation link, or straight porn, personally ^^

 

Edit: but on second thought, if that allowed Grumpy to leave with a comfortable sum (no idea), it's worth it.

Yesterday the site was still named MangaWindow. Seeing it now being called Bato.to feels so strange.

Imported mine two days ago and saw yesterday that my followed list was completely updated. Only had under 50 follows, maybe it takes more time for larger ones?

It is weird. But oh well...

 

I actually approached other official publishers prior to putting domain up for auction to see if they're interested. From about a month and half before the announcement. Sadly, I either never got a reply or got turned down. I found that so stupid. They spend so much more money on advertising already and they were willing to let go of an extremely effective promo ability.

 

That's why I ultimately just sold it to market. At the point where publishers already declined, the only potential buyers left was random fan or a buyer like now. At least it's not malicious, so I can't complain... yet.

Ok, I picked two random manga chapters and just scrolled through them, and the only watermarks were the ones that were by the groups that worked on the chapter themselves. So either they just uploaded a manga that already had watermarks on it or they did that recently.

They literally copied mangawindow site, and just replaced the name with batoto,it's just lazy. I have a question, can't they use the same layout as batoto?

It tries to run JS from baidu and anyacg... Well, I'll wait for mangadex to update my list, I can understand it takes longer for my 700+ mangas (even if half of them are completed or not anymore translated sadly)...

tbh right now, i think not selling the domain and link it to a static github page stating batoto is dead will be better than selling the domain to people who only want to 'steal' viewers. In the other hand, grumpy has done us a lot and mostly for free. I can understand his decision selling the domain. I just dont like this kind of move (buyer perspective), but in reality this kind of thing happens a lot.

Ah, well it is working then, that's good to know........yeah, mine haven't shown up yet, but I'm in the 800 or so range, so yeah, I'm sure it'll work out (eventually)
