Barring of course, the obvious 'find someone else willing to give away their free time maintaining the site' or 'find an archivist willing to preserve the server data until someone arrives to pull the bato.to from the thinking rock and be crowned king of Manga' which are more wishful thinking than actual development possibilities there is one last feature I would request.

 

Release a tool or feature that allows users to automatically export their follow list, including alternate titles, author names, series status (complete/ongoing), latest release information (name of the translating group/uploader and title of release)

 

This could be made easier by having a staggered site shutdown. Images and comments removed first, leaving only the series information to be trawled, severely reducing the server load from such an automated trawling.

 

Eventually, having such a file in a standardized format might allow for another site to import a follows/read list, even if they do not host the actual series.

i have a REALLY  BIG  follow list (maybe around a hundred), so i'm currently on a nightmare...i don't want to live thru another Onemanga. that was already traumatic. this will scar me for the rest of my life

I'd advise you to use your browser to ctrl + s and save the html for your follows page for now. Keep it safe.

 

You few hundred is do-able. I have 3,876 follows, but no time to deal with it myself at the moment.

Please do what you have to while you can, just in case.

For now, you can select your entire follows list via your mouse cursor, copy (CTRL+C), paste into a new Google Document (CTRL+V), which will get you a newline delimited list of manga in that document. However, every entry will be a hyperlink to the associated bato.to page. If you want sanitized results -- say, you're going to feed the list of names into a software program like I am -- then select the entire list in Google Docs, copy the selection (CTRL+C), then paste that list without formatting by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+V. 

 

That will give you a simple, newline delimited list of manga you follow. You'll have to edit out the lines that are just headers ("#", "A", "B", etc), but that's only 26 lines you have to clean up by hand.

 

What you do with the resulting list is up to you, though. You can get the manga information at your leisure by looking them up one eat a time via baka updates, or scripting something yourself. Either way, this assures you have a complete list of all your follows.

Just in case, I don't think the script works with the new version greasemonkey. It has to be tampermonkey.

There is a small chance that you could grab https://vatoto.com/follows_comics with a downloader like curl or maybe wget. That's on Linux though. Not sure about Win or Mac. Worth a try as long as you don't set auto retry and accidentally hammer batoto.

 

Even JDownloader may work if the timeout is a response from your browser (to the server?).

 

 

I spent a few hours transferring 160 follows to mangaupdates. I'd hate to have to do more than 400 :/

I can relate. I have around 380 follows here myself. Now I am reliving my Onemanga trauma.

Personally I just copy-pasted my follows list on a Word document. It's pretty big but I don't read all the manga on it so if I want to look something up I can search the document for it. For me the biggest trouble is saving the website links of all scanlation groups - Batoto was my go-to place whenever I wanted to find a scanlating group's website. I'm in the process of backing that up as well. It'll be a huge document but I want to keep that info.

Yeah mine only got 140 when Batoto said 141. In the source there was a dud entry sitting there with no name and a broken link. I'm guessing it's something I've followed that has since been deleted. 

 

If you open up the Chrome Dev Tools and go to console then run the Parse again, you should see a log dump of all the entries on the page which don't match. If any of them look like actual follows that should be matching, please post them and I'll patch the script.

No worries! I've just updated it again to show the dud count when you parse so other people don't get thrown off as well.

 

What are you looking for when you say more powerful? Just the group that released the most recent chap?

Perhaps some more things. Series description/tag data would be great though I doubt it'll happen.

My old follows page hasn't been working for some time now. Seems like the server times out when it try to use it due to the amount of follows I have I just get a 404.

The old follows has some more info on last chapter read and etc. It's much more informative overall.

too bad it doesnt show which group did the latest chapter. i simply save an offline ver for future ref if needed

 

edit: hmm seem like the link doesnt work directly, well this is how i got it to work

1. go to main page

2. under follow side bar click full list

3. on the full list follow page's side bar theres a "follow by comic" link... click it

4. profit? this way worked for me

@istinkalot, that just brings me to the old follows link, which doesn't work for me due to the number of comics i have.

It works on my mod account, but not on my regular reading account. 3.8k comics to go though is too for the server to handle right now.

Even when the old follows was working for me in the past, it still took some time for everything to load.

 

The last complete server downtime that batoto had on dec 19th or so was pretty bad and the servers haven't been behaving well ever since.
