I'm also looking for a site like this(though I think everyone is); but if it helps, here are some sites you SHOULDN'T go to. The ones I heard about, I heard about through yahoo answers or reddit threads.

Mangad*ep- Has malware ads, but aren't very obtrusive. Probably best bet so far; thanks kingpipot89!

Mangap*nda- has instant redirects and pop-ups. For me it was completely unusable.

Mangastre*m- heard it has exactly the same problems as Mangap*nda.

Mangare*der- has same problems as aforementioned sites.

Mangah*re- heard it has malware ads and redirects.

Mang*go- has malware ads and redirects.

Kis*manga- has alware ads and horrible navigation that causes you to click them unintentionally. Also redirects.

Mangaf*x- Has malware ads and pop-ups.

Onem*nga- heard it has malware ads and redirects.

Mangap*rk- obtrusive malware ads.

Thespe*trum- has malware ads and redirects.

I'm updating this as I find or remember more sites. Also, most of these sites are still usable with the proper ad-blocks, I personally would just rather stay away from sites that try to give you viruses( or affiliate with ad companies who do the same).

Mangastream is legit, they're scanlators and share their own scanlations in high resolution. I feel it ought not to be on that list.

On another concern, I feel that if some have in their bookmarks quality sites with quality contents, they will not want to share it in public, for fear these sites will eventually crumble under leechbot traffic and die from DMCAs.

Mangap*nd* and mangastr*am is 1 operational so if 1 have adv pop up the other automaticly have too...
Thanks for the info maybe some one say that not true and dont belive it, but base on my experience my phone got that virus because i read comic at 1 manga site on the list. I already try restart factory etc still cant repaired it so i must go to phone center for reinstall the system. My case is malware to automaticly download all application from store and cant turn off the data, if i try to turn off the data the virus force to turn on it...
That why i search manga site which dont have annoying malware and pop up like bato.to

I already try mangar*ck from store if i rating 1 to 10 i give 7 because still have adv but i think its good because user can read long page like bato.to and mangah*r* have mobile site and i read from there(for comic which batoto banned) and not got pop up

I couldn't get it working no matter what (yes I followed suggestions)

so I'm using atm

https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/10937-mangaupdates-custom-releases-page

Links to MF MH from MU. I've added another site, KA. in the comments section there is an attached script. It's partially broken. I can't fix it but I will probably add more sites. Hopefully someone can fix the script.

https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/19820-manga-updates-external-links

or

modified, need to create new script and past the text from here into it

https://justpaste.it/1fixt

Already had brings back group links. Excellent.

https://github.com/loadletter/mangaupdates-urlfix/

Extra

This plugs a hole that affects every link. Helps on ad pages

http://www.github.com/jaredsohn/noopener_by_default

along with the usual extensions to stop nasty ads that behave badly.

ALL this is a stopgap. We really need a new batoto. A place where scanlators will upload. Many of these other sites just scrapped batoto. These sites will become shit with batoto gone.

I like the custom releases one, it's a shame both of them don't work at the same time. By the way have you tried changing the http to a https alongside adding the grant change for the series release filter? It didn't work for me without it.

Thanks for the updated Mangaupdates External script, it's working great for me. If I may suggest other sites to add, I was searching earlier for other sites to use in the meantime while hopefully another Batoto pops up and I've seen a few people recommend MangaDeep and Mangakakalot. They seem pretty decent to use for now and would love to see some support for those as well.

Also, thanks for the noopener script, it seems pretty interesting and useful.

I'm obviously new here, but I asked the owners if I could archive your collection. Grumpy hasn't replied, so I'm assuming that's a no. Guess I'll work on a script to pull it.

Google tells me that's just what 4chan decided the name for any replacement for Batoto should be, in a poll. So, wouldn't count on anything substantial materializing out of that.

I see. Thanks for confirmation.

I tried to add them but it did not work. The search engine on those sites is set up differently. I think the problem has something to do with spaces being parsed as %20.

I also got that other script to work. Something to do with formatting. Weird.

At the moment firefox does not have a proper context search like the older version and extensions are missing some API functions atm.

[right click highlighted text, search X in Y]. I used that a lot. There are a few manga sites in the list on http://mycroftproject.com, e.g. KM, or you can create your own search but that's complicated for some sites.

Can't get enough Isekai? Check out the Isekai list for every manga on batoto. Follow for updates.

One site that needs to be mentioned here is webtoons.com . It is AFAIK the only site that actually hosts official translations for free and pays the authors a cut of the advertisement money, however it has only manwha (Tower of god, girls of the wild's, God of Highschool etc) and some smalltime hobby authors. For most of the Webtoons I read, this is where Batoto stole the translated versions from the last few years, so the quality should be just as good or better as batoto.

Other than that, while searching for backup readers for some of the more obscure series the big sites like mangareader or mangafox don't have, I stumbled upon a site called mangakakalot.com which seems like a pretty close copy of batoto except for the fact that it has no links to the scanlators. But at least it has almost all the non-hentai series I read, even those that were pulled from Batoto for borderline-pornographic content. However, I haven't read anything there yet, so I can't judge whether the site is safe to use.

Webtoons is lovely but not a replacement for Batoto. It's a legal comic hosting site. Batoto is not (sorry if I'm shattering any dreams here), it's a friendly community with excellent scanlator-oriented etiquette.

Put in other terms, I expect at most about 100 comics that are or were on Batoto at some point can be found on Webtoons. Mostly, that's a chunk of all the stuff that went bye-bye in the Naver DMCA, since Webtoons is naver's international comic branch. If you upload a scanlation to the user-uploads section of the site, it will be deleted.

(And I have no idea what you're talking about with Batoto stealing translations from any of these. You sure you're not thinking of mangafox or mangahere? Show me an example and I'll believe you, but most naver titles, like the ones you just mentioned, got their fan-scanlations DMCAed when Webtoons launched and haven't been on this site since)

Anyway, TLDR; Since IIRC batoto has about 20,000 comic titles, maybe about 0.5% can be found on Webtoons. I like some of the things Naver's tried with the site, though, so it's worth checking out in its own right.

[spoiler]

(Oh, though if you read the official translations for Manhua on webtoons get prepared for some translation pain. Like I know Super Secret got whitewashed--who the f*ck is "Ryan"??? where's my Gywenho?)

Yeah, webtoons doesn't have nearly as much content as Batoto. However, they have many series that AFAIK the aggregator sites don't have and similiar to batoto in that they give credit to authors and translators. I wouldn't be surprised if webtoons were to pull a fakku and start publishing scanlations under legal licenses once batoto goes down.

As for Batoto stealing translations, I can't point you to any examples that are still online as they were removed since. Examples would be "Girls of the Wild's" or "The Gamer" where until they got removed, where if you opened batoto and webtoons side-by-side, the only difference was that webtoons was slower to load. In most cases, they even included the webtoons credit page.

Also, I doubt that they actually got DMCA'd as for some series (Girls of the wild's for example) there are still some english chapters online, just not the rips from webtoon that made up the majority.

I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding what sort of site Webtoons is, and/or what sort of company Naver is.

Naver is a respectable international business; they're originally a search engine in Korea but spread out to a lot of stuff (so kind of like a lesser Google, if you will). They're not going to start allowing copyright violations just because the scanlation scene is having a bad day, assuming our plight is even on their radar. They're neither a skanky law-skirting chinese company like Noez/Mangafox/Mangahere/etc, nor are they a mom-and-pop-run volunteer shop like Batoto (Or just mom rly, thx Grumpy).

Rather than saying Webtoons gives "credit" to authors, it is more accurate to say that only authors (well, copyright holders, but close enough) are allowed to submit a work to be posted there in the first place.

I mean more scanlations might show up in the user-submitted ("challenge") section of the site (they do pop up occasionally) once Batoto goes down, I guess, but if so they'll be removed as always.

I'm not trying to discredit any of the sites on that list; I'm sure a lot of them are very scanlator friendly or have high quality scans. It's just warnings about the advertisements that are on the sites :)

EDIT: Sorry, mang*stream doesn't exist anymore! There used to be a manga site; think it was operated by the same ppl as mangap*nda and mangare*der. Anyway, the scanlator site's fine, sorry again!

EDIT: Does Onem*nga still exist in some way? As far as I know that site doesn't exist anymore???

OneManga ceased to exist back in July 2010, before agonizing because of an unparallelled DMCA by a coalition of publishers from Japan, only their forums are still alive, and they're talking about bato.to closing and wether or not another haven will replace it.

And to correct Silvermoment's statement "Onem*nga- heard it has malware ads and redirects.", OneManga never had any nasty popups or redirects, much less malware, though it did go through a phase of sound ads being very annoying which was corrected soon after, but anyway, right now, OneManga is as dead as it can be, and its website displays an expired domain text.

And btw, is it true that Tazmo's websites are dying too?

Um Mangastream still exist my friend. There has only been one Mangastream and they have been going strong for a long time. Was on there yesterday and today. They have maybe one to two ads at most. Also they have never been operated by mang*reader or mangap*nda. They hate those guys.

If anyone still wants a site to read manga on try Mangarock.com. They are pretty ok.

Mangarock, Mangastream, and Mangakakalot are the only good ones out of all those trash sites.

Seriously though, who still has issues with ads and popups when there's this thing called Ad-Block that exists? Do you people live under a rock or something?

The problem is a lot of sites are now deploying anti adblockers that disable their site unless adblocker is deactivated.

There used to be another site called mangastream. I forgot the url, but it definitely wasn't a scanlator's site. It had many of the same issues as mangap*nda and mangare*der, and was often mentioned with them in some of the queries I looked through, so I figured it had the same operators. Anyway, just to clarify, I wasn't talking about the scanlators' site, but an aggregator site that had many scanlations of different scanlators.

Not that it makes any difference on mobile devices. You're either blocked by the Anti-Adblocker or by malvertising (which seems to focus on mobile devices these days).

Mangastream is scanlating hard and strong for a while, they oppened a backer mode that allows you to removes ads. I'ts HQ scans and translation. You have some on mangacow too, gameofscanlation too. They are all scanlaters that do quite a bit of content. Cow is just coming back after a break though.
