my old friend Mr Jim does comics. he has been working on it nearly 5 years, has copyrights, and even made his first paperback recently. he also posts cartoons on youtube.

his comic is starting to get some decent exposure, so im asking...would it be frowned upon if i were to like, you know... advertise his work for him on batoto, and help him get exposure? obviously i would follow forum rules, i will strickly post it to my profile feed so there isnt a bunch of spam, and make it clear it is not batotian work.

may i have an opinion? if the idea is completely absurd i cant totally understand that, this is all on the fly and im just trying to expose a dear friend.

Anyone can post their own made comic series on batoto. You just need to change the Default "Scanlation" type to "Self-publish".

Advertisers are banned on sight. If you want to share something cool, please keep it to your signature.

• So yes you can promote his comic in the Self-publish forum. But dont overdo it, like saying " if you buy two, get one free...or anything regarding the sales of 

•      his comic"    You can only do it in a general sense. It will be better if your friend have his own account here, so he can answer any questions regarding his work.

You may look at other threads in the same section for more suggestion/idea.

alright that pretty much clears it up. im not selling it (that info is on his facebook, my goal is just getting word out. ill let him handle that on his own time) so i see where you are coming from with the advertising. i dont see myself going to the self publishing forum because its not exactly my place to do so. ya know? its not exactly my work.

so, if i understand correctly, i can go to the youtube link, share it on my status (or even signature) and it wont be an issue?

Yes, you can promote all you like in ur signature. I am just saying, it will be better if he have a account here as well  to promote his work. 

Lol, that section anyone can promote for someone .dont necessarily have to be the author or artist. 

 

You can post a link in ur signature or the video . BUt the video must be in Spoiler tag. [spoiler]video[dash/Spoiler]

Clarification:

^ That only pertains to online sales marketing.

It pertains to all kinds of "only here to get you people to click on mah links" kinds of advertisements, especially if copy/pasted onto a dozen other sites (the random sales spambots will get banned no matter what).

Having said that, this:

is completely fine and akin to "hey I found/am doing this kewl thing" sharing. and comic are quite relevant to the site, so you should be fine fanboying/fangirling over it where relevant too.

Still, the best thing would be for your friend to share some sample short work of theirs here and let it do all the work, I think (do they have some free-to-read series or oneshot anywhere as a part of their portfolio that uploading of wouldn't breach their publishing deals/whatever?). Way more exposure as the majority of users just reads the comics and ignores the rest of the site.
