[Sceleris]

Kageno datte is a cute comic and all, but the heroine's height is messing me up! I mean, yeah, it's meant to vary with the mood and relates to her lack of presence and whatever, of course I get that, but surely she ought to have one "real" height behind all that superdeforming. I just can't get a grip on if she's just a bit short, or if she's so much shorter than average that it ought to count as a condition.
 
I haven't found any official numbers, so I guess it's analysis time!
 
Consideration 1: Her height compared to him
 
In chapter 10, Boyfriend-kun seems to (relatively) barely need to bend down to kiss her; estimating the height of her lips, I'd say the top of her head is about at the middle of his eyes. A real human's eyes are at a height of about 94 % of their height; in this frame it's about 88 %, since he's also a bit deformed.

Early in chapter 1 they bump into each other. With perspective in consideration, I estimate that her height is about 88 % of his; this is supported by Exhibit A.
 

 
Exhibit B.
 
The end of chapter 1 is also a decent reference point. Compensating for her tilted head, she seems to be 78 % of his height. However, compensating for the perspective, it's more like 86½ % of his height. This is in line with exhibits A and B.
 

 
Exhibit C.
 
They are both 15 years old. Japanese growth charts for boys put 15-year olds at around 167 cm average, or 167±7 cm within 1 standard deviation and 167±14 cm within 2 standard deviations. It's been a long time since I took a statistics class, but if I remember correctly, this means that we can be 95 % sure that he's shorter than 181 cm and 95 % sure that he's taller than 153 cm. If so, she should be between 135-160 cm with cartoon proportions (88 %). (144-170 cm with human proportions (94 %), but I think we can dismiss that.)
 
I've been assuming that the heroine is noticably shorter than average, but is she? Some unnamed girl confesses to Boyfriend-kun early in chapter 1; that girl seems to be about up to his chin tall, which is comparable with Kageno's height. So maybe they both are typical? The typical Japanese 15-year old girl is 152-162 cm tall (average: 157 cm). This would put his height at around 172-184 cm (cartoon proportions, i.e. Kageno at 88 %).
 
Consideration 2: Her height compared to her surroundings
 
In chapter 10, Boyfriend-kun comes home to find the heroine all dolled up. Using perspective and an assumption of the hallway being 16 floorboards wide, her height seems to be about 47½ % of the wall height, or 58½ % of the door height, or 126 % of the height of the door handle. The typical wall height is 2.4 meters, which puts her at 114 cm tall; the typical door height is 2 meters, which puts her at 117 cm. Researching Japanese door handle heights, the typical height seems to be about 93-94 cm, which puts the girl's height at about 118 cm. Caveat: I think I put the baseline too close to the "camera", so think I I slightly overestimated her height.

Taking her height to be 117 cm, that would put Boyfriend-kun at 133 cm (if she's 88 % of his height). This is obviously not reasonable, unless their school is for little people; his height should be slightly above average.
 
Consideration 3: Others' reactions
 
I can't seem to remember anyone remarking on Kageno being short! If she was shorter than 95 % of everyone else, surely the mean girls would remark on it. But she does seem to be shorter. So I'll put her at 153 cm tall (statistically, ⅔ same-aged girls will be taller, ⅓ will be shorter). If she's 88 % of Boyfriend-kun's height, then he's 174 cm tall. (He's taller than ⅔ of same-aged boys and shorter than ⅓ of them.)
 
Preliminary conclusion
 
Kageno is 153 cm tall, Boyfriend-kun is 174 cm tall. (For metrically challenged readers, that's 5 feet, 0.24 inches and 5 feet, 8.5 inches respectively.) He can rest his chin on top of her head. If we assume that the manga stylization distorts only their proportions and not their heights, I guess her lips are at the height of his shoulders.
