Even though "Arte" is classified as a historical manga, the first 37 chapters (plus 2 bonus chapters) are --save for one lone instance-- completely devoid of any specific historical references whatsoever.

 

Then came Chapter 38:

One reader astutely observed that, with the name-dropping of the "Big Three", the manga could now be dated (almost!) right down to the year.

And given the information provided, the events of Chapter 38 can be reasonably placed circa 1522-1523.

 

PS: i'm inclined towards 1522 myself, just because that would allow more "wriggle-room" for future stories (see the ending of Chapter 40).

Hmm... haven't done one of these in a while. 

 

 

The girls talk about hair in Chapter 51 --or rather, it's Veronica talking to Arte about her hair:

 

The prescribed remedy mentioned in the manga comes directly from this excerpt from Giovanni Marinello, "Gli ornamenti delle donne" (1562).  So, yes, it is historically accurate.
