@Rokrish

The thing about Kanemaru is yes, he's whiplashing on a lot of pitches he doesn't need to. Even in situational batting practice against Kawakami, who is a good pitcher but he is definitely not first rate material, Kanemaru would still easily swing at Sliders and out-side low fastball, which are 2 most difficult pitch to hit from Kawakami. This suggest his pitch elimination and prediction is not that good. This makes sense why he would struggle against better pitchers.

If Kanemaru can hit Furuya's high fastball, that means his sweet spot is middle to the inside and higher part of the zone, so he's a pull hitter not unlike Zono. Given this ability, Kanemaru has to learn how to watch and predict pitches better to narrow down that inside - high fastball that he wants. Unfortunately for him though, against a pitcher or a team as good as Mei and Inajitsu, he will gets predictable pretty quickly, they'll learn that he's sitting on that inside fastball and they'll throw him changeup and out-low fastball all day and there's pretty much nothing he can do about it, it's way above Kanemaru's level to hit. In that case, a bold batter that's willing to step in like Takatsu would probably fare a bit better especially since he's a lefty batter which gives him a boost against Mei.

Kanemaru needs to learn to hit outside fastball to minimize his predictability. No batters want to hit a breaking pitch if they could but when it comes down to the wire, the best pitchers would usually throw their signature breaking pitch to get out of trouble plus fooling the batters since batters will usually expect a fastball. So Kanemaru needs to add more  proficiency to his batting checklist to become a better batter, just good at hitting fastball won't be that successful at this point.

Yeah I agree with you that he is too aggressive. If he stepped up his aggression in certain counts, it would go along way to bumping his average up. That said Nori's slider is one of the best pitches in universe, especially since it comes from that low sidearm slot (I actually think that Terajima underrated it significantly in the databook), so its not exactly easy for a hitter to pick it out, and Righty on Righty, a slider like that is brutally effective.

You talked about how pitchers like Mei will target the outside low corner with fastballs and changeups because he is sitting fastball inside, and that there is nothing he can do about it. I sort of disagree with this sentiment. I feel that Kanemaru (who is one of the smartest players in universe) will go and adapt his technique to the situation. I mean look at Zono, Everybody knows that you should not pitch him inside because he will pull the ball with power, they still will do so, since he can still go after a pitch on the outside, or the count can get disadvantageous to the pitcher on the outside. Heck in real life this is what happened with Aaron Judge midway through the season. What did he do? Just give up and never hit anything again? no, he just worked the count until the pitcher either walked him, struck him out, or gave him a pitch he could hit. Kanemaru needs to do this (I won't just single him out for it, pretty much every player except a few struggles to keep their emotions in check in the box, and they give Sawamura crap about getting worked up) because he will have areas in which he feels most comfortable hitting pitches, and will have to deal with pitchers knowing that and pitching around it. Unless you are literally an all fields hitter like Cobb, Gehrig, Ruth, Mantle, Mays, Trout, or Bonds, you are going to struggle as a power hitters as pitchers will try to pitch around you, or will employ shifts and strategies to keep you down. Ted Williams loved balls on the inside part of the plate, and teams pitched him outside and employed a shift to take away his hits. It didn't affect him all that much. I am not saying that Kanemaru is Ted Williams, or has his natural abilities, but Kanemaru is a baseball player at a pretty high level, and does have significant athleticism and intelligence, so he should be adapting to the situation. What I feel he needs to do is to pick the pitch (fastball middle-in, middle-away) and hit it for sure, which is something that Seidou really needs to do as a team. There are only two, maybe four hitters on the team that can gamble  that they can hit anything (Miyuki and Haruichi for nearly certain, and maybe Tojou and Shirasu) the rest need to use their most valuable square foot of real estate to get the job done. This is what I would want Ochai working on with the team, figuring out how to get the hitters to pick the pitch that they want to hit and making contact with it. Unfortunately it seems like the idea that "guts" (whatever that means) has infected this team, and that flailing around and calling it trying to hit, is a legitimate hitting strategy.

Yeah I follow that Facebook page too but it doesn’t really bring a chance to communicate the new chapters, we will just have to find a new forum, create our own discord or use reddit or something

Too bad about batoto closing, and after the mf forums too. It's a bit of a shocker. I suppose there's always reddit, although reddit's format itself doesn't exactly encourage walls of texts which might be inconvenient for DnA discussions.

As a possible option, the MAL forums might be a decent alternative, in particular the club section where a club can basically have its own subforum with as many threads as members want. Since it's a proper forum, it allows for long posts and multipage threads and has all the BBCoded features we know and love, like quoting, spoiler button for separating RL baseball discussion, etc. Plus, most of us probably already have MAL accounts. Well, this is just an option I could think of.

Anyway, back to the manga content proper, I'm kinda hibernating, waiting for when we get to some more meaty parts, like Sawamura vs Seihou or at least get to see what kind of team Yamamori is.

As to the representatives game, we just might be treated to Miyuki-Mei battery after all seeing that Inui got struck with a bat (instead of his preferred lightning lol). Inui and Miyuki are the only 2 catchers the Reps team has, so if something happens to one, the other has to fill in regardless of delicate circumstances like showing your hand to your rival. Which is what I'm expecting (hoping) will happen next: Carlyle, the culprit behind slugging Inui, was the last batter in the 7th struck out for the 3rd out, so Inui has yet to try and play after being slugged with a bat, and won't be at all surprising if he realizes he's injured something only when he crouches down and tries to play like usual (think Miyuki who realized his injury with a delay). In which (dramatic) case (just like Terajima loves), we'll definitely see Kunitomo's hand forced to put Mei and Miyuki together as a battery. And if that does happen, I'm willing to bet it will be this experience Miyuki gains that will eventually tip the scale in Seidou's favor when they face Inajitsu in the summer tournament. It even was foreshadowed somewhat with Miyuki's words before leaving along the lines "Although I'm leaving the team for a while, in exchange I promise I bring back something that will help us in the summer."

@TDX

Yeah, such a shame this was. Reddit is probably going to always be there as an option but like many have said before we moved from Mangafox, the format of reddit is more of a sub-threads site with emphasis on individual chapter discussion and small topics instead of big forum posts. So yeah, I agree with you that MAL is currently the best alternative and to any anime-watcher, it would not be strange at all to have heard of or at least have an account already at MAL (That's My Anime List for those who are unfamiliar).

I'll try to set up a new thread there and will post the link here for everyone later this weekend.

With that out of the way, on to the chapter discussion. These recent chapters have been so boring, it made me crept into even Discord during the holidays. Quick off-topic, Discord is a good chat-room but it's not a forum format we seek. So anyway, with Inui injured OR potentially injured, we can expect Miyuki to be paired up with Mei in the future chapters. Even if Inui is fine after being smacked on the head, we can expect a good coach like Kunitomo to take responsibility for taking care of the players, which some are not even on his team so he should be even more responsible for them, and switch Inui out for the sake of Inui's health and his reputation. Kunitomo certainly wouldn't want to be labelled a coach that would squeeze talented players from other team dry for his team's gain so he will try to avoid players injury if he could. Mei x Miyuki battery is almost a sure thing at this point. And yes, with Miyuki on the catcher helm for Mei, we can expect him to bring some juicy information back to Seidou regarding Mei's pitches. Although I would love to see him slap on a GoPro cam on his helmet when he come to catch for Mei but that's just a dirty unrealistic wish XD

Though I would bet that if someone asked how did Inui feel when he got hit by Carlyle's bat, he'd probably still say he felt like he got struck by Thunder, but this time, it's literally....

@GodamfireV:
Yeah I just checked the discord, its really off topic, unfortunately. I agree that MAL may be the best bet for our discussions, with Reddit being a good back up plan.

I just hope that Inui didn't get hurt too badly. Carlyle was out anyway regardless of the tag, pursuant to the MLB's Official Baseball rules 6.06(c.), as he "interfered with the catcher's fielding of the ball" so he didn't need to grandstand. Getting hit with a bat is no fun and I would probably pull him at this point in case he got a concussion. Realistically, I would not be surprised if Miyuki gets to catch for Mei, but they had better show the two seidou games soon.
