I loved Gepetto, sad to see it end but then again, if it was forcefully extended and the story stretched out, it might not be as good.

People often underestimate how difficult true sentient artificial intelligence is and how complex brains are.

1. We are no where close to Terminator/Gepetto level artificial intelligence. I mean not even a bit close, self driving cars is still a struggle.

2. AI is not just a software issue and processing power issue, it's a design issue. A brain cell can make connections with many other brain cells in a network of 3d interconnectivity. Computers are very linear with their connections. Each really is a single path channel of on or off. You can have many pathways but still the iinterconnectivity is singular. For example, there is no direct connection between a hard drive, and say a keyboard or video card. Each signal has to travel through channels on the motherboard, through ram, through cpu. But a brain, you can have neuron that encodes a memory, grow a direct connection to  that which processes vision or hand movement. Which allows us to have muscle memory or visualize a memory complete with emotions and thoughts that accompanied it, and even modify these connections. A computer can very inefficiently emulate the end effect. But these are just example of how much more complex the structure of brains are, than that of computers. There isn't even a direct connection between various data on your hard drive, each data is processed independently by the rest of the system and it's eventually combined to make a program etc.

Which brings us to the story, one thing I like about it is that concept that the androids have a special hardware that allows for their sentience, as in no regular hardware will work. They can't just download their programming into computer because it won't have the ability to handle the complexity. Even the very advanced blue fairy program, clearly lacked the ability to think rationally on a sentient level, lacking the special chip. It couldn't say "Gosh, perhaps I shouldn't destroy everyone just because the crazy bad guy got to me first and ordered me to". It was limited to its programming, not really sentient, not like the androids.

Well on the flip side, it had downloading human personalities which kinda contradicted that very message and I found a bit absurd. But I suppose it was necessary to explore the human/android relationship that is center to the story. The message of "what is really all that different between a constructed/downloaded human personality into a 'clone' and that of androids.?"
