The drop-down menu for notifs quit working for me a couple days ago. I've been using Sylo. Today I confirmed it also doesn't work in Subway. Behavior is: the small white panel with a worry circle appears, but the list of notifs never gets populated. Workaround: I can still see my notifications if I open the notifs page in a new tab. Also the small drop down with the worry circle goes away when I click elsewhere on the page. (Doesn't freeze the browser or host page.) I have confirmed this behavior on forum pages, comic pages, and the main/home page.
Using FF 53.0 on Win10. Don't see ads because I'm a donator. Only recent browser change was (yet another) flash update. Flash is set to require approval to run.
If nobody else has this problem, I'll go through the full fire drill of changing browsers, clearing everything, and/or disabling add-ons. I routinely clear cache and history on exit but turned cookie handling over to an add-on a couple years ago.
edit: Okay. Same behavior with a clean copy of Microsoft Edge (no add-ons, first run).
2nd edit: SOLVED. Was probably as rose icon included in a text line (topic name). Anyway deleting most of my saved notifications, including the one with the embedded icon, seems to have fixed it.
