I figured I'd make a thread for people to discuss the student/teacher relationships in this series so we're not constantly polluting the comment section with it!

I, for one, dislike them. I NEVER think it's appropriate for a teacher to express romantic or sexual feelings for their students, unless said student has graduated. While they are a student under your care, you should remain professional. I am okay with kids having crushes on adults, but adults being attracted to children is disturbing.

Within the story, I don't like the the Nagai/Hinohara chapters. Too weird and pedophilic. Yeah, age of consent in Japan is 13, but it's still creepy and gross as hell to me. Even highschool seniors dating freshmen is weird to me (14yr old dating a 18yr old) because the difference is maturity is so huge. When I was a HS senior, the freshmen seemed like babies. It's not the age difference itself -- if they were both adults like 20yr old with a 30yr old (or older, whatever), ok fine. But Nagai is still a kid physically and mentally -- and honestly, he's not even "mature for his age", he's like SUPER childish, bratty, and immature. I don't know how Hinohara can have any interest in a little brat like him. They don't even have a good dynamic. She teases him and makes fun of him and... he gets mad? Okay...

inb4 "OMG It's a manga! Chill!"

Yeah, sure. But I'm here for the cute romance between the two middle schoolers, not the creepy one between the student/teacher. They can get their own separate series if the mangaka is constantly going to be devoting entire chapters to them without even a cameo from our main characters.

Hinohara+Nagai is the best couple in this manga. Hinohara is a troll and Nagai is an easy to troll delinquent wannabe. The dynamics are great. Nagai also isn't by far the most immature person around. The fact he's jaded makes him already more mature than lots of normal students of that age. Naturally he's still a kid, but on the other hand he's not pretending to be mature like the main couple.

I wouldn't support this in RL, but I can enjoy it in a manga. So far Hinohara also hasn't crossed any hard lines (although after all this development I wouldn't mind if they did). She's proceeding very carefully. She's most certainly not placing her own urges before Nagai's wellbeing. Now she was even depressed for days due to worrying about Nagai's future after graduation. If she was merely a despicable pedophile, such thoughts wouldn't even cross her mind. She has put him through hours upon hours of extra lessons. Sure, it builds up trust between them, but it would hardly be necessary if she was only aiming for his body.

It also seems to me she's the only bright spot of his whole school life for him. That might not be intrinsically a good thing, but it's better than nothing. He can't misbehave massively if he intends to interact with a popular teacher.

You are free to love. Relationship in manga should be free too, as long as it's good.

Ya I'm not a big fan of the Hinohara+Nagai couple but I like how the author uses each characters relation with someone as a way to express someone's POV of what their whirlwind of emotions are. I like how the author has developed both characters and shown us their mature masks as well as their childish raw emotions.
