Comic page comments (eg. https://vatoto.com/comic/_/comics/its-my-life-r18491#fast_reply) needs to have a button for adding spoiler tags.

The rules require us keep plot details, images, and videos in spoiler tags. Yet we are provided a button for embedding images/media but none for spoilers?
Sure those that know bbcode can write the tags, but this seems contradictory. If anything, I would expect spoiler tag button to be available (to make it easier to follow the rules), and image/media buttons to be disabled (since you can't possible break any rules by not using them). Since spoiler tags are required to be put around images/media, the tag should be no harder to add then them (meaning a button should be available to add spoiler tags directly, not in an embedded 'special bbcode' sub-menu like on the forms).

Unless the image/media button adds spoiler tags by itself (experience tells me otherwise), the current implementation is flawed. Ignoring trolls, I cannot expect most children nor the technically illiterate to follow this rule as implemented, a link to rules that also tell us how won't help much (your fighting laziness, clicking that check box is 100x easier than clicking the link, reading the rules, and copying/pasting the spoiler tags).

I'll be honest, I do expect having the spoiler button available to reduce the number of offenses of those who actually care about the site. It would probably even be a measurable number and would likely have a noticeable impact on how frequently the rule is abided by on the site as a whole.  However I doubt it would result in any noticeable or measurable decrease in rule breaks, those that follow the rules would merely finally be able to express themselves as freely and easily as those who break them. The best solution is probably to make image/media buttons add spoiler tags by default (requiring you to enter bbcode mode to remove the tags). Or for bato.to to enforce the image size/line count spoiler tag rule on post (eg. server reads dimensions of images not under spoiler tags in comment section on post, and adds tags around image if needed. It doesn't sound complex at first, but I fear we would have to fight some sub-system to implement it).

In the Special BBCode drop-down (3rd button from top left corner), spoilers are 3rd and 4th from the bottom of the list. Doesn't mean it couldn't be more prominent, but I think this part of the site coding is directly inherited from the parent BBS system. It's not customized for Batoto at all.

Does nothing to people who never check the forum (i.e. your average commenting person) as it's not present in the commenting version of fast reply.

Precisely my point. There is no option in fast reply except entering bbcode.

If added to the fast reply, I would prefer it to be just as prominent or more so than image/media buttons, since those require spoilers, meaning spoilers should be used no-less often then them.
However, as you said, this is likely in the domain of the BBS subsystem. Adding/removing elements may not be as easy as it sounds. I would think that the BBS system would have configuration options to customize this toolbar "easily", however I know nothing of the system in use, and reading the documentation doesn't sound like anyone's favorite pastime.

I agree. As a recent new member, I feared the consequences of violating the rules, but didn't know how to make a spoiler tag until I got over my laziness and Googled Batoto's Comment Guidelines. If there was a link to the guidelines along with the sentence at the checkbox, I think that would lessen the probable frustration of being told to read and follow something without being told where to locate and read it, then being told to use spoiler tags (and looking for that button) without knowing that you can do that with a code. And to clarify, the current rule is that images and long comments go under the button that uses the code whereas "plot details" types of spoilers can just be signaled with a typed warning like "(Spoiler:) blahblahblahblahplotdetailsblahblahblahblah"?

If there was a link to the guidelines along with the sentence at the checkbox

"comments section guidelines" in "I have read the comments section guidelines (...)" is a link?

It's in different shade of gray/black too, though it might not be different enough for everyone (especially when displayed through a badly calibrated or low quality display, which I presume is what the vast majority of users is using). A side effect of having links on comic pages (chapters, genre/author searches, comic titles in the sidebar, etc.) black I think...

---

And as a side note, if you click at the "Forums", near the top of the list you have "Batoto Support" and its "Rules, Guidelines, FAQ" subforum where all kinds of rules and instructions are stored.

I'm glad to know others still care, but I have bad news.

Spoiling is commonplace, even "ruining the distant ending for no apparent reason" spoiling, and good indications are that nothing will be done about it. Suggestions are born and die in darkness.

I mean, the person you quoted and are replying to has even addressed this.

But, honestly, as a person who regularly uses spoiler tags in comic comments for various reasons, I would kinda really like to not have to type them out manually every time. And maybe it would ever so slightly reduce the amount of people asking "how do i do spoilers" in comic comment sections.

I think I get what you wanted to express, but for the sake of clarity: The egregious incidents I've alluded to have not been addressed, nor do I expect they ever will be. And the posts I've made imploring that we do nothing but exchange the unenforced checkbox with a short how-to for the hide/spoiler tags, drew polite conversation but nothing else.

So I'm afraid the odds of implementing a button, or programming the forum to auto-add tags where needed, are probably somewhere between "the Sun going supernova tomorrow" and none.

I see now, thanks. Yes, I always read Bato.to on my phone screen at a low brightness setting. A few days ago, I think I also accidentally clicked the link in the sentence, when I usually click the sentence to check the checkbox, and got confused when the rules/guidelines page popped up rather than the checkbox getting checked. Yes, usually I expect links to appear blue or red and even underlined if black.

And as a side note, if you click at the "Forums", near the top of the list you have "Batoto Support" and its "Rules, Guidelines, FAQ" subforum where all kinds of rules and instructions are stored.

Ahaha~ thanks for the instructions. Now I know what I didn't know when I first started reading on Bato.to, when I tried using the search box to find the guidelines.

If Grumpy wants to add the button, I believe it's pretty easy:

  • Go to ACP -> Look & Feel -> Post Content -> BBCode Management, search for the Spoiler bbcode and add an icon
  • Then, in the next file add 'Ipsbbcode_spoiler' for the mini toolbar:
  • /forums/public/js/3rd_party/ckeditor/ips_config.js

    ...
    config.toolbar_ipsmini = [..., [...,'Ipsbbcode_spoiler', ...], ...]
    ...

That's all! :D

If someone wants to use an userscript (probably buggy):

Spoiler
