Yup. REAL Shame, the anime. All of the nuance, the context of the story, the relative character perspectives and how they play to the story to characterize the "Soldier" Tanya vs the real Tanya. Almost none of it is there.

The whole budget is set on battle scenes. The recruitment drive episode made some acceptable changes and had some of what made the story interesting in the first place, but the rest of the anime is terribly lacking.

i honestly like the anime, i wouldn't say its better than the manga or LN but i like the twist they added to it, makes now curios how they are gonna go with it coz in the LN and manga the Type 95 (Tanyas calculation orb) was given to Tanya as without knowing who the recipient is but in the anime God deliberately gave the Type 95 to tanya which doesn't make sense...... why give the person you want to be in constant despair to a point of breaking a weapon so powerful that she could win against anyone but in the LN and Manga it was shown that a different god gave the Type 95 to Tanya and the God that punished Tanya probably doesn't even know Tanya has it

i still believe that when you have a manga and/or an anime based on a novel, the correct procedure is to watch the anime first and enjoy it for what it is, THEN read the manga and enjoy it for the extra details and background that can't be put into the anime, and finally, read the source novel to get EVERYTHING that can't be put into either the anime or the manga. This order allows you to enjoy each version for what it is without being put into the position of complaining about what isn't in the anime or the manga.

I grant you that this order of enjoyment isn't always possible. It is only my preferred order of enjoying a good story that has multiple formats available.

Always yield to temptation, it may not come your way again!

Thank you for your attention.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled manga, already in progress.

I think you misunderstood something here... the LN doesn't describe how the God looks, but the manga outright makes it so Being X is a multiple entities but one *at least it's seems that way to me* and they're all in agreement to give it to Tanya. Just so she got a taste of being Being X's apostle whenever she use it's full power.

Why? Because it's proven just despair doesn't work for Tanya as she did get out of her orphanage and start a career. There's a downside in using Type 95, eroding their atheistic self, and put Tanya in dilemma because it can save her life in the front line. So yeah, it's a cheat item with a curse attached.

The portrayal of the stories are very different in the media - to the point that on some themes the meaning of the story changes dramatically.  The LN provides two perspectives - the divine and the mortal - alongside each other, which I think is done very well.  Both side's reasons are expressed in contrast and the story is a dance between the two.

I suspect the author of the LN is monotheistic, or at least has a strong monotheistic understanding as it shows a good insight into that frame of thought.  He does use the limited God model (complaining about being overworked) but that's a common method to try and add relate-ability.

The Manga writers, however, show a polytheistic view on the divine - likely to avoid playing favorites or to try and expand their audience - and instead of showing it as one god, show it as a multitude of gods with a shared purpose.  They still do the dance of the divine and mortal, but instead of the more personal dance, it's more like a barn dance or square dance where there are lots of partners.  Still, with the "father-god" figure as the main player it does a decent job, and represents some of the conversations really well.

The Anime goes even further from the LN and presents the divine even more abstractly (the first conversation being from the time-frozen people surrounding him - which matches with his standards to live by societies values but is completely in contrast to the points that God makes about a higher morality than the lowest-common-denominator social majority morality) - and so far instead of the story being a dance between the two perspectives it focuses almost entirely on the mortal perspective with the divine as the opposing force.  Frankly, at times, making God look like an enemy which IS exactly how Tanya sees him, but not his purpose in involvement.  So it misses out on a chunk of the story that you get from the LN.

I certainly would have enjoyed the story more watching the anime, then manga, then LN in that order, but having said that I wouldn't have gotten so exited at the anime to read the LN, but having started at the LN I have a passion for the authors work that is sorely disappointed in the way it was executed in the anime.  Still a decent anime, and I hope they redeem it (they probably will have to if they stay close to the LN's plot progression) but the meaning behind the story has been changed and if they do cover that gap I suspect the story will seem disjointed as it makes up for what it missed at the start.

Don't see what all the hate for the anime is about. I read all the available chapters for the novel and manga before the anime came out and I loved every second of it. It's a tie for AOTY with Made in Abyss.
