Huzzah, Absolute Witch!
Well, as of ch 15.5 (strange numbering on this manhwa) I'm finding the back-to-the-future sequence an interesting change of pace. Since we have some notion about what happened, it's all unfolding with a certain tragic inevitability. Adds a certain weight to the whole thing to see the disaster that she's the redemption of.

I like it when it's more lighthearted too though. Anybody else find the girl absolutely hilarious when she's all shocked/surprised and there's a picture of her in kind of chibi mode with huge pop eyes? I also loved the scene where the maids were all bullying her and she hung one of them upside down from the balcony--like, did you fools think I was some kind of wimpy shoujo heroine who would be all sweet about you pulling this kind of crap? Here's another think comin' at ya! Laughed my head off.

It was really nice to see some background 'how' the witches dissapeared, instead sitting blank about that. Its always exciting to get the backstory. now we also now a little more about kaylus!

I would like to know where did the witches go? and why?
I mean yes, the people were angry at the witches but is this enough to leave? or did I miss something?

I get the impression that they realized, partly with prophecy and partly with smarts, that what was coming was along the lines of the full on angry mobs of torch-wielding peasants backed up and stirred up by the nobility. And the thing is, once that kind of thing starts you can only lose. If you lose, you lose--but if you win, you still lose because you just massacred large amounts of the population and so they'll hate and fear you from then on. They thought better to skip the whole thing by leaving.

good point there, but why didn´t they help the people when the people went to the witches for help? or couldn´t the witches help them?

i love this history, and the chibi drawing is funny, i want to read more about and the background on the history is great that way you know what cold happen, from my point of view i think witches didnt help people with they needs cause there has to be something against witches who use lots of power (plz make rain all over the kigndom -.-').

I wonder will it help skyla to hide in the house of family since it's noble house. They are looking for a peasant girl. Also doesn't that mean she is a noble?

Well, somebody noble seems to think she's their relative; I've never been too clear how that happened or how she ended up with her adoptive piratical family instead.

Wow, tsundere Kaylus got pretty serious! "To me, you are even more important than the world", whoosh!
And I mean, sure, people say that kind of thing now and then--but when there's a serious threat of the world ending and you're telling her not to sweat saving it, it bears some conviction, what?

Totally off to the side . . . does anyone else find the manhwa title makes them think of vodka? Absolut Witch, now in peach flavour!

Well this thread says latest chapter and "what not" so I'm going to be posting "what not"

Seriously one of the most awesome manhwas ever. It took a pretty long time for things to get moving though but once it did...mind blowing. The art is so beautiful. I love how this manhwaga took the time to draw Skyla's luscious locks of hair. I love the puffy gowns that the witches wear =) They're so elegant.
Kaylus, oh he's just a sweetie despite him being crude at times. I love his blunt confessions of love for Skyla =) For a second there, I was kind of freaking at the end b/c I thought they were going to leave a bunch of loose sends like what kind of person is Kaylus? Amazing. He was the last of his people just like Skyla. Some people think he's a warlock but he has golden eyes of the gods so he's a descendant of the gods right?
The mother never appeared again, the half brother never did either. Wonder what happened to Amengarde and Aine. Hm....minor character details here and there could have been explained better.

Another (and a lot of) 'what not'! Maybe I'm just too critical... Pardon my English.

 

So, I really enjoy this comic, partly because how clever the author put the disappearance of the witch as crucial background as mysterious as possible, romance (OF COURSE), and the politic situation of the empire, witches, and magician. Until half of the plot, I drawn to the story and keep read it. I even vow to buy all volumes if the series licensed in my country!

 

Yet the last half kinda... put me off. I keep reading because I was curious about Skyla and the flow of the story itself is enjoyable. The first thing I noticed was, the author did not mix everything nicely even though s/he has a lot of potential plot point. Please note I may missing something.

We have 1. Skyla as young, inexperienced witch 1.2 Skyla and Kaylus! 1.3 Skyla and her adoptive (ex-pirate) family and her hometown 

1.4 Skyla and her biological family and their situation 1.5 THE SHIP and the grandfather who gave to her

 

While the first two are the main focus and the third may just left as background (although I have to say, the ex-pirate things is really interesting! did the pirates had conflict with the witch over the sea? did they had a forgotten tale about the sea, mermaid, and the witch themselves?) I can't think Skyla's original background have to be ignored. The family conflict itself was real. The lady in the house knew and jealous with her 2nd mother-in-law whom her husband once loved and despise her sister in law, her brother attracted with Skyla, Skyla and her brother relationships was stiff - her brother look down her adoptive family and her current education, and how her mother's story? We only knew how her uncle took over the castle, and her mother (seems reincarnated in another dimension) only appear twice and have no other role in her development. Her mother is also special. The tale about the little witch who left out is maybe her ancestor? I always thought the left one is Aine's ancestor until the story show she's fake.

 

The Tatiana (or Tiana?) ship is the major reason some people want her rights for the ship. Is the ship (who rumored created by the witch) has significant plot point? No. Is Kayla meet the grandfather again? No (and he's not that important anyway). Why gave a scene where she hear the ship cry? I thought she will using the ship fly and run with it or watsoever.

 

 I suspect sudden change of concept because of these.

 

2. Kaylus and his frozen heart 2.2 Kaylus background story 2.3 Kaylus and Grand Duke

 

Kaylus got nice storytelling, I say. And his possessiveness was just.. awwww >w< The side story about his father is awesome. Yet I kind of dissapoint his relationship with the Grand Duke didn't go any further. Because the Grand Duke said Kaylus has the most thickest blood, I assume the grand duke isn't child/grandchild of Antonio (maybe his sibling's or his cousin's). Kaylus choice to not have any connection to the noble and despise them is understandable. Him as Grand Duke with Grand Witch as wife is not so him. But a plot where he join the family and messing with queen dowager will be enjoyable.

 

3. Jewel 3.2 Jewel and Skyla 3.3 Juvel 3.4 Another sad, background story 3.5 Juvel and Aine

 

Jewel has a chance as (and he is) Kaylus's rival. Sorry but even with Kaylus jealousy once or twice, I still can't see his significant plot other than the reason Skyla run from her town and the last act. How I should say... He's important but at the same time not that important? (especially in Skyla's plot). The author giving Kaylus' portion a bit too much, or maybe s/he never intend to make Jewel as rival anyway... Jewel background story is in the last half and confusing me (like I said before, last half has a lot of background plot and off, popped here and there). I think her mother is the Empress who dissappear, found, and beheaded? I don't know. How Juvel born also weird. It would be nice if he's another personality who born as Jewel defense towards cruel experiment the magician had done to him. Maybe I wasn't aware much. Also, when Juvel stole the witch's heart... why he done it? I missing something here other than 'the author need a plot where the magician will attack grand duke for the heart but canceled'.

 

Juvel and Aine is another interesting plot. Yet... why and how Aine attracted to Juvel is weird and suddenly she just... love him?? It's like there's untold story and the author forget about them and just 'oh let's make Aine a reason to kill the one eyed woman! (forgot her name)'.

 

4. Aine 4.2 Aine and Juvel 4.3 Aine's background story 

 

I saw the cover and I thought Aine's role will be the fake witch who battle the real one. Well, they did battle, but only once. Aine has important role to make the magician uproar and start searching the witch at first. But that is it. Her background and how she join the noble family is vague. Not really, but I mean, her 'desire' to be witch is unknown. I never see why she wanted to be a witch, other than asking her granny. Her hatred to the noble family (forgot its name)? As illegimate child? Could be. But in my opinion, the story didn't show her plot strong enough to make her opposing the society to the point she have to be witch. It's a shame, but if the desire real, whatever the reason, her clashes with Skyla the real one, and her envy, would be very, very interesting. Aannd she just end as a broken heart girl in hatred.

 

5. The one-eyed fortune teller (Amangarde?? Forgot her name) 5.2 Aine's grandmother and her background 5.3 The monster magician and his father

 

Her background story is the proof how cruel the magician was in the past. She also seems know who Aine is (her grand-niece). She's the one behind all, and I think her appereance in story quite good... yet too rare in the last half. Her story about the monster magician kind-grandfather who let her and her sister escaped is interesting but pass quickly as another background story. The monster magician and his magician father got important role but so-so. The monster magician is kinda of first boss, you know. At first he seems to be one who control everything. I really hope his role as villain get larger, the same with the fortune teller. To be honest, there's quite a lot 'final boss' suspects here. Their plot is like, on off, appear, and gone... I even can't desribe my mixed feelings about all these interesting yet poorly executed sub-plot. Who/what is the pool/lake the fortune teller talked too? I feel sorry for her but, I can't help to laugh when her plan to wake up titan to destroy the world failed. She should have to research first about the titan's character...

 

6. The insane familiar

 

He appear as 'grandfather', the mysterious guy who know about the propechy. I really, really did not know his usefulness in the plot aside... side quest for Skyla, and the one who inform her about five stone whatsoever. Honestly, the plot about five stones/keys and titan is too abrupt for me. 

 

It's just the old ex-witch with lion suddenly told Skyla about insane dragon and etc I don't follow this side arc and poof! Side-quest! At first I thought, so this is the final boss??? I didn't find him important...

 

7. The witches dissappearance 7.2 Loreanne/Loreine 7.3 The prophecy 7.4 The titan plot

 

The witches dissappearance is the main background plot and I have to say, is handled very well. I love the concept how the dissappearance affect the world. The young witch love story with Antoine the Grand Duke is also interesting, tragedy but.. well, interesting. So Loreine is in the prophecy? The one who will end the witches era (or the world?? dunno)? But how come there's another prophecy that Skyla also the one? (I may missing a lot here) The thing about 'Skyla will end the world (or whatever the sentence is, I forgot)' is like on and off again. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I dislike the witches returns... 

 

The titan is another character I thought as a main boss. Then he just 'just kidding lol' and I was like 'ughhhh' ಠ_ಠ

 

There's also the merchant lady who lost her role after Skyla live with Kaylus. You know, I think in that era, when young girl suddenlt dissappear with man, the lady who act like guardian at first should try to find her... The child emperor seems has connection to titan/jewel too but, I don't know... to much information, too much sub-plot and I miss kaylus x Skyla moar...

 

 

Conclusion: I think the author has the whole concept written in a paper, but when s/he put it into comic and story line, s/he was like 'oh I forgot this one, lets put it here!' and choose Skyla Kaylus over (not that I mind). I keep reading because the author did have power with (romance) storytelling and a lot of interesting sub-plot and concept. Even though I was flooded with information and confused, at least I got their cute little baby.

Lovely story. Great humour. Really liked this manhwa.
 
I've skipped through the points the people above me mentioned but for me there are just two or maybe 3 unanswered questions left.
 
1. With that bonus story about the gardener 'Hansel' and the side notes here and there I understood Kaylus as the grandson of Lorelei and that rumoured Grand Duke Antoine, with Hansel being their child and Kaylus father. Sooooo my question would be:
who brought 'the blood of the gods' into that mix? (And was that even necessary. She'd have returned to her body sooner or later anyway so him panicking might have been cute but breaking some power seal that's basically good for nothing else and just puts that unexplained inheritance in the room was pointless.)

2. The witches disappeared a long, long time before our favourite pirate family stumbles about baby Skyla. But since witches are only born to witches Skylas mom must have been a witch too. There's some scene where it looks like she's watching earth from a fare away place too. Where did she come from and go to? And 3. Why the heck is she wearing a sailor uniform?! I suddenly pictured some Kagomelikewelldivingandinanotherworldlandingscene in my head. @_@
