Premise:

In the Douluo continent, there exists zero magic and Zero Ki. What is there is called Spirit Essence and it is the foundation of the world.
Every person has a spirit. But not everyone can use spirit essence. Those who have Spirit Essence are called spirit trainees and are able to train their spirits and become Spirit Masters. Spirit Masters tasks are to grow and protect their nation from spirit beasts and their nations. They gain benefits based on power but also carry a heavy Bourdon. But the perks are a trade off.
You guys are special cases in that you all were born with high Spirit Levels and are prodigies in every sense of the word. However, you all were born with spirits most would consider.......junk. However, your innate talent will allow for you to make your junk spirits into treasures. Like a wise man says, "Trash is only trash if you accept it as such."

Spirit Masters fall into one of 5 categories based on their Spirit. They are:
Attack- spirits whose abilities are primarily offensive
Defense: spirit whose abilities are for defense
Speed: Spirit whose abilities make he user fast
Control: spirits whose abilities are primarily suited to control the battle field
Support: spirits whose abilities are primarily used to help make others stronger and assist in recovery. (Are indispensable and sought after)

There are 11 rankings to becoming a Spirit Master based on power levels
1-10 Spirit Trainee
11-20 Spirit Master
21-30 Spirit GrandMaster
31-40 Spirit Expert
41-50 Spirit Leader
51-60 Sprit Lord
61-70 Spirit King
71-80 Spirit Saint
81-90 Spirit DuoLou
91-99 Titled Dou Lou

There has been only one titled God in recorded history.
Training:
To become stronger, one must have a strong body and a strong mind. Those allows for spirit essence to grow and become more powerful. This can allow for one to better control their spirit essence, refine it, and better utilize their spirit. However, Spirit Masters have a primary bottle neck they must get past in order to advance their training. Once every 10 levels of power, a person must retrieve a spirit ring from a spirit beast. Gaining the power from a spirit beast will allow your spirit to grow and unlock abilities someone can use through their spirit. The number of rings indicate, not only the level of the Spirit Master but the title as well. (One ring indicates a person is a Spirit Master while 5 rings indicated the person is a Spirit Lord.)
How do you level Up
I will give you guys experience points which will be used to level up your character. It's sounds video game-y but it seemed like the best way to do things. This will be represented as Spirit Essence and will also be your pool of power to draw from.
As you rank up, the amount of points needed will increase but that means the amount of spirit essence you have to pull from will also increase. However, it will remain static as you work through titles.

Using Spirit abilities is like being a Mage. You call upon the spirit to help you perform attacks. Essence attacks is like using Ki. They are purely created by you and can help in battle though being able to utilize it take great control and training and most forego the training and just stick to their Spirit abilities.

Spirit beasts roam the world and come in a variety of shape as and sized. However there are two primary types of spirit beasts in the world: plant and animals.
Plant spirit beasts are herbs or living plants that have special traits, unique to them and only them. You are capable of gaining spirit rings from them if your Spirit is compatible with it. Only spirit tool are capable of absorbing spirit rings of plant spirits though if the beast spirit if completely compatible, it may be able to absorb one as well.
Beast spirits are what you would normally thing when you hear the term "Spirit Beast". They are sentient beings who are capable of independent movement and growth. Most of these beasts are encountered in the wild. They are the stronger of the two sets of spirits and tend to live the longest.
Spirit Beast Power
The spirit beast gains strength as it ages. The older it gets, the more powerful it becomes. Based on years, this also determines the quality of the ring. The color shows the quality of the spirit ring.
White: this is called a ten year spirit ring. All beast less than 100 years old will produce a 10 her spirit ring.
Yellow: this is called a hundred year spirit ring. All beasts between 100 and 1000 years old will produce a yellow spirit ring.
Purple: this is called a thousand year spirit ring. All beasts between 1000 and 10,000 years old will produce this ring.
Black: this is called a ten thousand year spirit ring. All beasts between 10,000 and 100,000 years will produce this ring.
Red: this is called a hundred thousand year spirit ring. All beasts between 100,000 and 1,000,000 years old produce this kind of ring.
Gold: this is only spoken of but never confirmed. This ring is a Million year old spirit ring. However no one can confirm this a nobody has ever encountered, let alone killed a million year beast. It's hard enough killing a hundred thousand year beast.

Beasts of 10,000 years or more can produce a spirit bone. These items give grand benefits if compatible. They drop for six body parts, head, torso, and the four limbs. This means a person can hold Six spirit bones at once but only six maximum. Spirit bones give power boosts or can be used as direct weapons in battle, depending on what Beast it is. There are many other uses for spirit bones. This makes them very sought after and are extremely expensive. Especially since they are hard to come by.
