It is with deep regret and sorrow that I must inform everyone that DR has just passed away:

He's been a very dear friend of mine for the past four years, and will be missed greatly.

 

May he rest in peace. I didn't know him for long, but he seemed to be a great writer and a truly caring individual when it came to creativity. He will be dearly missed. 

 

Also, if it's not too sensitive of a subject, may I ask as to what he died from?

 

You know I've been meaning to ask, why the fascination with gemstones?

 

 

I'm not entirely sure myself, but I have a few ideas as to where that fascination came from.

 

One would have been through my younger brother. He was an avid fan of gemstones, and had a massive collection of them in his room, so I always loved looking at them. Their formation and lattice structures were always so alluring and mesmerising; and since green has always been my favourite colour, I naturally got drawn to emeralds. 

 

I would reckon though, the main interest for gemstones probably came through my early reading as a child, since I came up with the character of Emerald in Year 3. I had read the entire series of Deltora Quest at that point, whose main plot device was gemstones; as such, I feel that also attracted me to them as well, and once again my love of green subsequently followed to emeralds. 

 

I hope that gives some insight into my strange fascination for all things unusual.

From what his brother told us, it seems like it was a brain hemorrhage. I'm not sure about the other details, but you can follow the link and ask his brother directly. Or just use it to say your final thoughts and wish his family well.

I feel so torn up inside about this. I may not have known him as long as Naifu has, but I recognised his creative spark and his kind, caring nature for all people; he seemed to be very learned, skilled and proficient in his art, and a truly inspirational person. To have someone like that pass away ... I don't know what to say. The forum, I feel, won't be the same without him.

this is pretty hard to process. knew him and liked him since the RP forum started getting serious, but kind of drifted away from it all since then. just as i thought i could know him a little better again... we've lost a good soul. condolences to his family.

Hey guys.

 

For those of us that knew DR well, it's undoubtedly been a rough couple of days. But I know he would want us all to continue practicing our art and creating magic. Since it was DR's turn to suggest something, I think it would be great if our next 'challenge' honors him in some way or fashion. It's a tough ask but the rules are simple: whatever you think he would like to read. Choose your own style, and make it about whatever you want. Let's just see if we can send him something fun and interesting to read, wherever he is.

 

As always, I'm open to suggestions, so feel free to do so or ask me anything about DR. If I don't know the answer, I'll be sure to find out for you.

Just posted up part one of three for this story; I deduced from his own submissions that DR really liked to write emotional and vivid works, so hopefully that embellishes it somewhat. 

 

Also, to update on the Nocturne for DR, it is now 2/3 complete; I will try to aim to have it finished and uploaded before the New Year.

Been a bit busy, but I should have my story done by next week. If not, then at least something to post. But I'll try and present it as a complete whole.

Part 2 is now up; it's shorter, but a good build-up to the ending I've envisioned. 

 

Also, the Nocturne is very close to done; I have one movement left to write, so I'll sit down soon and write that within the next few days.

Okay, Part 3 is now up; a good way to leave some suspense on the story, and honour DR for his dedication to writing. 

 

Also, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but putting up the Nocturne has been delayed a bit; I'm going to copyright it so I don't lose it, since I really like the piece. It'll take some time, so sorry about this; I will aim to upload it as soon as possible.

Um, I hate to pester, but is anyone else going to post their submissions for the DR writing challenge?

I just wanted to say that what I posted wasn't what I had planned to submit. That story was supposed to be a re-imagining of 'The Little Mermaid'.

 

Since DR liked my idea about rewriting movies, we decided to go ahead with that challenge on our own. He originally wanted to do 'Edge of Tomorrow' but I love the movie as it is and had no idea how to improve on it. So he decided to pick 'The Little Mermaid' instead. Having never seen the film myself, I accepted. As I started writing the story however, I realized that it was going to end up being much bigger than time would allow. So I switched to this one instead.

 

This story is the first of three. It's already finished but as I started proof reading it, I ended up adding new paragraphs and rewriting stuff... I have issues, let's call it that. I'll post the second part the day after tomorrow, and the final part the day after that.

That said, I think I should just state the obvious now instead of waiting until later. Guys, we had a good run. And while it was fun, I think we've come to the end of our journey. So thank you all for your time and energy. I hope we all learned something from this experience, and maybe we'll see each other again in the future.
